gillbot
I need help IDing some RC cars I inherited.... I received a LARGE amount of RC stuff from a neighbor and the boxes included three cars. Two of which I have no idea what they are and sadly, there are no radios. I also have received a LARGE quantity of spare parts and electric motors for many cars. In my quest to sort out what I may need and what I should keep, I need help Identifying these cars. Then I can sort through the boxes and get rid of parts that can't be used on these cars. What I primarily need is: A radio, electronics (servos) and battereis. I have a few 2 and 3 channel receivers, about 12 or so various electric motors and one speed controller. None of which look like they are in good shape. Car #1: This one is known, Tamiya Hornet http://cofba.org/users/gillbot/RCcar/100_0224.jpg My question is, do I need a special radio or will any work as long as I have the receiver for it? Car #2: Unknown http://cofba.org/users/gillbot/RCcar/100_0225.jpg http://cofba.org/users/gillbot/RCcar/100_0226.jpg Obviously AWD via chain. Car #3: Unknown http://cofba.org/users/gillbot/RCcar/100_0227.jpg http://cofba.org/users/gillbot/RCcar/100_0228.jpg This unit is also AWD via chain. I removed the chain and added the INCORRECT front wheels in an effort to make it a RWD car. It has three working wheels for the AWD system but I can't find a hub to mount the 4th. If any more info is needed, please ask. I can get more pics also. THANKS GUYS! Help me get RCing again, I haven't had a run around the neighborhood since my old Radio Shack Golden Arrow! Total Sign
My question is, do I need a special radio or will any work as long as I have the receiver for it? Any 2 channel radio will work with any 2 channel reciever (both on AM or both on FM) You need matching chipsets, which are 17$ a pair. gillbot
I got an email tip stating that car #2 is most likely a Race Prep - Pro Radiant. I guess it's a pretty rare car and would explain why I have about 15-20 Race prep motors in a box.
NWill
I have a trainer plane with radio and engine. Never flown, only driven around. I also have a complete new Nexus 30 helicopter setup. Radio w. LCD display, gyro, servos, brand new O.S. .32 engine, ETC. Never flown as I didn't have the time. The blades are also balanaced. I'll try to get some pics up.
desperado
Hmmm, car 2 looks like an Optima Mid with the aftermarket chassis. Most all of the cars from that era were ABS plastic tub chassis's. The second one was also a Kyosho car, that was converted (tub chassis removed) I would bet that the chassis either broke or the guy was attempting to save weight. As far as radio's Crystals are NOT interchangeable from an FM radio to an AM radio. And in some cases will not work from different manufactures. Also, they will be marked TX and RX for transmitter, and receiver. They will not work if not put in the right device as the crystals are cut for different frequencies for the transmitter and the receiver even theough they are for the same channel. Guest Tony_K
Wow - this thread brings back memories of 9th grade... I have a MRC-Tamiya Thundershot equipped with Futaba Attack-R if anyone wants to buy it. It has one of those "wet magnet" motors that spins insane RPMs and lasts 4 1/2 minutes Also a Kyosho Hi-Rider Vette, like new, with Futaba Attack. Has a Kyosho "Le Mans" 360 motor. Damn, I can't believe I remember that much. Will sell or trade either for a MRC-Tamiya Hot Shot...
gillbot
Anyone have any radios and reciever pairs they'd let go for low cost?
SlowmotionMotorsports
I have raced R/C cars for over 20 years. I want the Hornet!!! Car 2 is a Race Prep Pro Radiant released 1989-1991. At the time one of the fastest/best AWD cars ever made. It used oneway bearings in the front so in straight-aways the car was mostly 2wd to save battery life and add speed, but in a corner it went AWD and would pull the car thru a corner. Car 3 is an old Yokomo (not very good as the front end could not handle bigger jumps)But supper quick on flatter tracks!
gillbot
If you are interested in the hornet, shoot me a PM. It does work also, I've been testing everything out. Speed controller could use a good cleaning or replacement but it will run as is IMHO. (with a good battery of course)
