Our new family ride

Well, ever since getting married a family has been looming in the not so distant future. My wife and I are all settled into our home and decided that a Mustang just is not cut out for hauling a family around. Keep in mind that as of now our family is my wife, myself, and our two English bulldogs Buzz and Dayzee. Add a kid to that mix and it is just screaming SUV, truck, whatever.

We shopped around for a long time and since I am a Germain employee, I get to choose from a lot of different vehicles that I can apply an employee price to. Long, late night discussions between us and the dogs narrowed our search down to a 4 door pickup or an SUV. Stephanie decided that we just don't have room for a pickup, and we really don't need one, so SUV it was. Disheartened, we went SUV shopping stopping at Saturn, Toyota, and GM. I didn't care for the plushness offered by Saturn and GM and since I work at Lexus I get to see first hand what kids and dogs do to very nice leather interiors. Well, I fell in love at Toyota, and after a VERY lengthy test drive, so did the wife.

We purchased a 2007 Toyota FJ Cruiser in Sun Fusion yellow with 95% of all the normal non TRD options offered. Roof rack, electronic locking rear differential and active traction control in 4x4 mode, 9 speakers with sub, 6 disc in dash yada yada.

I appreciated the ruggedness and the durability (not to mention my cost for factory parts and access to technical data ;)) she liked the ride quality, the room, and the ease of caring for the interior, which has water repellent seats and no carpet to stain.

I love it, and will purchase another Toyota once her lease is up. :)

Go Toyota...

Nice Joe. Can't beat Toyota reliability.

Funny thing I did today. I was at the DCX headquarters and I had a bunch of heavy equipment in my scion so I actaully drove inside through the building to where we were doing the testing. haha it was great driving a toyota through there and definitely got a bunch of attention. When I got to the test cell the engineer told me that if he knew I had a toyota he would have made me carry all my shit. :)

LMAO! Way to go Doug!

I absolutely LOVE my FJ and have no regrets (but having a car payment) at all about it.

The chassis is based on the GX470, without the stupid air suspension, and those are terrific in abysmal conditions. For other FJ owners/fans check out allprooffroad.com for some sweet FJ parts.

Yea, and I also watched the Extreme4x4 and saw the FJ they converted. Honestly, the FJ is not a womans vehicle. Sure its big and has an almost Lexux SUV ride quality, but its an OFFROAD designed vehicle. That's where it shines. It even receives major praise in stock form. If I had more money than sense, I would LOVE to build the hell outta this thing, but paint less dent removal and paint jobs are expensive, and I must be able to haul kids to church and let the wife drive it to work.

Honestly, it was about 80% my decision to pick this car, as she picked out her Jetta.

she will not drive the jetta all summer I bet. We drove by the salon to get dairy queen on tuesday and she had the FJ. Take the jetta back......

She only took it cause it needed gas! :o I drove the Jetta so it could have an interior done to remove dog hair. Jerk! :)

Nice Joe I looked at them but they were kind of small for what I needed, so I got the Sequoia also saved some money since it was used and I bought it off some rich dude. ;)

Where is your house? Looks new or maybe a townhouse?

Thanks Tommy! Our house is off central college rd in Westerville, right by Hoover Dam and the BHMO Disc Golf Course!

I like the sequoia, but dont want my dogs to chew up the leather interior.
