Science Abuse
Did you know that an equation from quantum mechanics finally explained rouge waves? Some vids: I hate rich people Unreal The hallway shots are worth it:
vitamincj
So the whole ship was bending around in the hallway vid? Needs stiffer sway bars and strut tower bars. ;-) PS Now rogue waves will haunt me whenever I go out on the open ocean.(Which is never)
Dr. Apex
Holy flex!! Those are some rough seas. I remember being in Hawaii and watching an oil tanker flopping around like a little toy out in the rough seas, makes you realize how small we still are. Orion
theyre supposed to be flexible. like tall buildings, if they werent flexible, if we made the whole thing out of b29 grade steel, it would snap in half the first serious wave it took. the pictures are even more impressive than the videos. i have two observations, one, if that a cargo ship, and the deck is clear, that means its riding really, really high in the water, and those waves are up over it anyways. were talking 60 foot seas. second, if its an oil or gas tanker, then its built like an iceberg, and almost 80% of the ship rides under the water line even on calm seas. taking waves over the entire ship like that would be scary in either situation. i love ho the optics in the third pic give the impression that its already broken in half. Science Abuse
second, if its an oil or gas tanker. Definitely not those, it's missing allot of deck equipment. It may be a ore ship. Here's an old'type tanker with a freak wave: http://www.allhatnocattle.net/rouge%20wave.jpg Also, I'd argue the cruise ship is more impressive, that 100ft of water. I love how the optics in the third pic give the impression that its already broken in half. http://www.crh.noaa.gov/mqt/fitzgerald/fitzgeraldpic.jpg
Dr. Apex
I just caught a show about the semi-submersible ships and the loads they get to carry, I can't imagine trying to carry a military destroyer ship in those seas, be a bit top heavy.
