When were you there? My wife and I just got back from there on our honeymoon and did a very similar trip! Flew into Boston and rented a convertible (Sebring) and did Portland to Bar Harbor to North Conway, NH to Burlington, VT to Rockport, MA over 10 days. We stopped and had lunch in Camden at Cappy's Chowder House and walked around the town some, it was beautiful. We took the 1 and 1A the entire Maine legs except for when I got closer to the coast going into Salisbury Beach and Kennebunkport, among others. When we stayed in Bar Harbor we rented bikes and did the 20-mile carriage road loop through Acadia (which damn-near killed me) and stopped for lunch at the Jordan Pond House (hooray for popovers!). We did sunset on the summit of Cadillac.

I have about 1000 pictures I’ve yet to put up. Too cool.

Just missed you! We started out on June 2nd, so by the 8th we were in Burlington (which is beautiful, by the way, if you’ve never done Vermont you should). We were going to try the ice cream at the pond house, but the 10 miles left up the "bad" side of the carriage road kept us only eating light. :) We had some pretty decent ice cream in town at CJ's and then Mt. Dessert Island Ice Cream, though. We ate ice cream every day of the honeymoon (at least once a day, except for cheesecake day :)). Did you get into any Bar Harbor Brewing Company beer? If you're a stout man, the BHBC stout is fantastic - I brought some home I loved it so much. Geary's was great, as was all of the Shipyard stuff. We toured the Shipyard brewery in Portland, along with 4 other smaller microbreweries and a larger one in Gloucester, MA (Cape Ann Brewing Company) along the trip. Good beer is kinda our thing. :)

The first day was GORGEOUS. The next three were a bit overcast and rainy, which was fine especially during biking in Acadia - if it was hot and sunny I probably would have died. :) The weather cleared up a bit the next day for our drive through Acadia; the following day it was wonderful until the end.

I can't wait to go back. I ate so much lobster (lobster rolls, drool...), clams, and chowder. Of all the chowder I ate, Cappy's was tied for 1st place with a joint in Portland called Gilbert's Chowder House. So good.

I love the Maine coast so much we decided to build there. If you're up for a little more of a drive you should rent my place. :) ALL OF YOU! :D

How much? :)

Wait, clicked the link... too much. Too much house, that is. I don't travel to be coddled... unless you're there, Clay. :p

You gunna come here with me some winter?

Depends on what you would like to see and what sort of activities you'd like to check out. If you'd rather be in a larger city, check out Portland which is along the coast. If you'd prefer a smaller town area, there are quite a few along the coastline along Route 1.

Give me an idea of what types of things you'd like to get into/see and I'll try to provide as much info as I can.

Very nice pics! I dated a girl in the Navy who was stationed in Newport, RI a number of years ago. Beautiful place! Everyone needs to visit the NorthEast sometime. I was there in early October. Still decent weather but all the crowds were gone, you could actually find parking, which I guess is impossible in Newport in season.

You can't beat free! Thanks for the compliments on the place,Tim.

Erok, I'm a little busy with my home life and career to take a week off to bounce up to Maine, plus it's being rented most weeks from now through September anyway.

Coastal Maine is good through Veterans Day (mid November) but after that weather can turn from cool, crisp fall to wintertime in no time flat.
