Science Abuse
So, my sealed case Optima Red Top, after 2hrs of highway cruise, was hissing, hot, and bulging. No heat sources nearby. I am at a loss. :x Maybe time to replace it with one of those 15 pounders.

nurkvinny
Slap any other battery in there and test the charging output. 13-14 good. More usually bad.

starkmaster03
I've had a red top for four years now, switch cars with it and still have not had a problem. It as been killed more times than I can count with installing my own alarm/remote starts and all sorts of other odds and in and it still going strong. Twistedrx7
I have a 51r from my honda back in 03 and it is still running strong in every vehicle i have owned. When i first bought it, it would not hold a charge, optima told me that it was because it needed to be initially charged with another battery to start off with. After that it has been butter ever since.
Science Abuse
I really don;t care if Red Tops suck, I'm not gettting another one regardless. I'm trying to find out how i nuked it, I'm suspecting a voltage regulator, but am looking for other opinions.
Dave1647545494
throw a good battery in it and check the output or take the alternator off and have it bench tested only way to know for sure
