What does it take to go 180mph

Is there a way to calculate the horse power required to hit those speeds?

I would think that you'd have to be given the vehicle's drag coefficient in order to do such a calculation.

I've seen upwards of 135 in mine(on an enclosed course ) but I would tach out around 150 for sure.

 

What does the argument include as far as mods? Are you talking completely stock, or fairly tuned? I have no doubt that a GTI with a GT3071r could hit 180 but it would take some work to get there.

Well most European cars are limited to 155mph, they say they have more in them than that. Idk what the revs are, at 155mph in a European car.

You might be better off to figure out the gearing (tires, differential, tranny)required to go 180mph and then see what rpm that engine would be at... should work, although its alot of math.

stock C5* or C6 vette will do it right off the show room floor.

 

the C5Z will not do it stock, it is gear limited and drag limited. you have to take the redline up for it to happen.

No

It changes for every car, period. You need to know gearing, hp, drag coef, driveline loss, power band vs gearing, etc.

 

Several German cars do 180+, 2 and 4 door, even a wagon or two.

i had my dads 93 325i to 135 on 161 when i was ~18 or so. i dont have a clue what the RPMs were at.

 

and FWIW, his car had over 170k miles on it when that happened. im fairly certain it had quite a bit of life left in it. probably could have hit the 300k mark

You don't say.. I thought once you hit 180, then 180 to 250 was a breeze. Thanks for clearing that up. On that same note, jet planes only need 56hp once they get past mach1..
