How low can you go?

What is the Mosquito Ringtone?

The short version, A tone outside the audible range of hearing for most people over the age of 30.

This website gives you multiple tone frequencies and their related "average" age cutoffs. I was able to hear 17.4khz but it's not anything I would pick up without listening for it. Remember, when listening, it's not the audible click your speakers may make when you first play the clip.

BTW, 14khz is as high as I could hear via old ipod earbuds.

Either the earbuds suck (they do) or I haven't been wearing adequate ear protection whilst shooting guns. Probably a combo of both.

Edit* - 15khz with the volume at 100%. 'doh!

Edit2* - 16khz using just my laptops speakers. Barely.

That info is completely wrong. You do not have to be 18 or younger to hear 22kHz. As long as your hearing has not been damaged then it should be fine. Now, 22kHz at 50 years old and on would be interesting, but not completely unheard of.

Wanna fuck with your ears? Listen to a Shepard Scale at a moderate volume. It is known to make some people nauseous (not all though). Here is a decent one if you ignore the goofy spiral in the video. Just listen to it.

Isn't the Shepard's scale supposed to sound like it's steadily getting lower but isn't really? Sort of a like a audio illusion instead of an optical illusion.

Dammit. I used to have a link to a bunch of audio illusion shit but I can't find it, now.

Correct.

If you find the link then let me know. I am minoring in Music/Sound in college so I find this kind of stuff interesting.

You can probably find most of the ones I had by looking up audio illusions or auditory illusions. I think Wiki even has links to quite a few in their article. Here's one I grabbed real quick with a couple interesting ones. If I have time, I'll try to find the one I used to have, later.
