I was wondering if anyone has had insurance on their pit and what kind of cost i would be looking at?

There's everything you should know. My AmStaff is registered, confined and has all immunizations, however, I do not carry extra insurance on him.

cough mixed dog cough ;)

them boxer mixes will get you every time.

It is at an officer's discretion what a dog is categorized as. You can register under something else, but that won't save you if there's ever a legislation change or domestic case.

go get your dog trained for the AKC Canine Good Citizen Cert. then he/she is free from all breed specific legislation! It took me and my Staffordshire about 4 months in 3 classes and about $300 and now he is trained and certified.

Here's a link for you too. We're looking into this as the beginning training for our new pup.

Since I am one of the few I am sure who insures my 2 APBT, there are 2 recomended companies in Ohio, if you call Animal Control. There is a place in Lancaster that does it, and for my 2 dogs it is $600/ 6 months, or 1k/12 Months.

The decisions on if your dog is a "Pit Bull" is completely up to the Animal Control Officer. If they say it is a "Pit Bull", and it resembles a "Pit Bull" then you get charged for no insurance. As well the judge who does these cases, is a tool. If you show up twice to his court for the same thing, he will take your dog, and have it put down. Saw it happen while I was there, for my failure to insure a "vicious dog".

As well Good Canine Cert, doesn't get around the state law in Ohio. I asked about that since my Males are already 5x Registered. The Animal Control officer, stated there was no way around the Ohio Law.

Never heard this. Do you have any references? Either way, I'm sure if something went down (and as usual, the "pit bull looking" dog will get blamed:mad:) this would go a long way to helping your and your dog's side in a case.

On a sidenote, I'm hoping for a pregnancy between these two before the end of the year. Get your insurane policies ready. :)

Just make sure that the dog kill whoever it bites, then you just bury them in the back yard and nobody will ever know nor will you need more insurance.

Do you have to go the full 6 feet deep if it was a kid?

Oh and it doesnt llok like my insurance is going to cover the dog, and my landlord isnt happy about that.

Are you saying that the landlord not happy about the dog or the fact that the your insurance doesn't cover him?

Both, i may need to find another option for him. In still makeing calls to find an independant policy.
