I think it is best to leave Monday and come back the following Monday. That would be best. However, if you have the option, leave Monday and come back six Mondays from that Monday. That would be even better.

Fail, nobody was flying 9/12/2001, I forget how long all air traffic was grounded, but I remember being outside and never seeing/hearing a plane was weird. I think it was down a couple of weeks to a month.

"cheapest days" depend on where you are going, it is less expensive to go to Florida in the third week of september.

I just booked at ticket leaving on monday and back on monday (turn and burn) and it was less than I have ever paid. It depends on flight loads, route, equipment flying the route etc etc etc...
