World Ends In 2012 - PROOF.

I saw proof that the world will end in 3 years while watching tv tonight. True story. Somebody actually got enough funding for a prime time Saturday night set of commercials to advertise the human lottery that will take place to win spots to be saved when the poor Earth says goodbye in 2012.

The site / group / cult / team behind it:

Discuss.

Viral marketing for the movie... saw right through that the first time I saw the commercial. :o

Not implying you or anyone here believes that commercial was real, just saying the whole viral marketing thing is lame... as we sit here and talk about that movie (knowingly or not). :p

The title refers to the end-date of the current (13th) b'ak'tun of the Long Count calendar, used by the Mayan Meso-American civilization. In their creation myth, we live in the fourth "attempt" at creating the world, while the third attempt was dismissed as a failure after its own 13th b'ak'tun. Though Mayan documents contain no such information, popular culture and certain religions predict an apocalyptic event at this date. It is popularly misunderstood that the calendar "ends" on this date, however the Long Count calendar can express dates from approximately 3000BC (their date for the creation of the current world) to approximately 40 octillion years in the future. It is almost impossible to express this date in a mortally comprehensible fashion.

1) The website has "2009 Sony Pictures Digital Inc., All Rights Reserved" in the lower left corner.

2) Even if it WERE true, I'm staying right in Columbus away from mountains, oceans and the like. If I didn't get a "lottery" pick, I'll sit through it with the rest of my miserable soul friends and pray that I was right in my religion selection. :D

EDIT: Props to Woody Harrelson. He was great in "Seven Pounds", and with "Defendor" and a small role in this flick I'm glad to see him getting some jobs! :)

its for the movie 2012. I signed up for the email alerts and I keep getting this junk from the some people named something along the lines of IHC (human continuity).

All the fuss is being raised bc the mayan long count calendar ends in 2012, which means the end of another age in the mayan calendar and the birth of a new age. Nowhere does it say the world is going to end but there are a lot of strange coincidences that make it worth watching like the solar eclipse on 12/21/12
