Wedding Experiences

I am going to be getting married next year (summer) and wanted to know where people had their reception/caterer, photographer, DJ, and wedding. I'm not asking you to do my job because I plan on searching yellow pages and things like that. Just wanted to see what positive/negative experiences people have that would weight my decision. Thanks

My wife and I got married on Kahekili beach in Maui. Just the two of us there, and cost was around 1200 for the ceremony and pictures...

Came back for a reception at Tall Timbers. Great place, you can bring your own booze which cuts down on $$ but their food was a little expensive.

For photography, I HIGHLY recommend Yellow Fish Studios. Very artistic. We are using them for our daughters first year of life and could not be happier. http://www.yellowfishstudios.com/weddings

I recommend The Cake Studio for the cake.

We loved ours.

We didn't have good luck with our photographer, and had the ceremony/reception at Tall Timbers in Reynoldsburg. Tall Timbers was great, good food etc. Its nothing fancy, but nice enough for us.

Agreed black00ws6, the food was a bit pricey, but very good. Being able to bring your own alcohol was a BIG cost saver.

Had our reception at tall timbers as well. Was fairly priced and had a great time. I tell everyone I know getting married, that once its all said and done, and as long as you use reputable companies, it doesnt matter how much you spend. Once its all over with you'll look back and say you had a great time and be happy you didnt go over board with a huge budget.

Oh and no plug but my wife is a wedding cake baker if your looking. Pm for details.

These are some of mine from 3 months ago at my wedding.

Matt Ryan Mobile DJ. He was the best DJ I have heard at a wedding, and he was really good on price too. He made sure to do exactly what we asked of him, I could not have been happier.

University Catering was pretty good. They weren't cheap, but the food and setup was great.

IQ Foto took incredible pictures, but again not cheap. I would check them out though for sure.

umm... I would have to go back and look at my reciepts.. my cake was done 5 years ago, as well as my friends..

I believe mine was in the 3-400$ range.. and served 115

My friends was.. i think in the 4-500 range and served the same..

Dont quote me though.. Im going off memory..

Cake Studio did all three.

Also..

We used Cheers chalet for our Wedding..I cant say enough about the location.. it was beautiful.

I had NO desire to go see them based on thier ads in magazines or even thier crappy crappy website they had at the time.. it did thier site NO justice..

Wish I could remember all the people involved back then. My step mother-in-law had some great connections before she retired. The reception was at the New Albany Country Club, photos were handled by Finochi, and she had some special cake lady and caterer. Everything went excellent, god that was a good time.

Moved bumped or anything in between a cake placed together correctly should never have done that. Theres to much filling in the top layer, and thats not filling like jelly but filling in between the layers. It is however a pretty cake.

I can vouche for Cheers Chalet. Been to many receptions there and was always impressed with it. Really a great place to have a wedding and reception. Very scenic.

Of course I'm partial to this place because my parents house is a 100 yard walk through the woods from it and this was my hunting/fishing grounds since I was old enough to hold up a 410 shotgun.

Also if you don't want to go that far away, there's The McCoy Center in Old Hilliard. It's a nice place to have the reception if you're on a budget.

A cool place to get married in Hilliard would be at the Franklin County Fairgrounds Historic Village. There's a really old church there you can make arrangements to use.

For our wedding cake we used Cakes by Traci. tracitaute@yahoo.com or 614-436-0136. We had a small cake that cost $200 delivered and setup.

Hope this helps ya. I know how stressful it can get, I watched the wife wig out for 2 months getting our wedding put together back in September.

Congrats and Good luck

We had our wedding in Niagara Falls. Since my wife's family is from Newfoundland, and mine is from Ohio, this seemed like the easiest half way point.

We expected 40 people, got about 65. Did a little chapel that was cute and photogenic, but nothing special. But we kept it short and funny, our dog was our ring bearer, and everyone enjoyed it.

Cake wasn't overly fancy, but everyone said it was really good (I didn't get more than a bite of mine, so I couldn't comment).

DJ was awesome; we did a kind of 80's theme for most of the music, and everyone seemed to like that a lot. DJ was really into the theme, which helped.

We made our own center pieces, which saved us a LOT of cash and they looked really good too. We kept it light on the flowers, and did Calalillies (sp?) which made what we did have a lot more unique.

We were in a very photo friendly area, so wedding photos were great. Found a very artsy-type photographer, so we got some pretty cool shots.

But honestly, make it fun. I've been to a LOT of shitty receptions, and refused to let ours be one of them. I had a lot of the guests tell me that it was the best reception they have ever been to. I personally think ours was the best I've ever been to, and I have really only been to one other good reception (which they are now divorced, go figure), and that reception kept the fun theme as well.

I can't stress enough...keep it FUN. You and your guests will enjoy the day a lot more, and it will be a wedding everyone will remember.

Reception was the Falls View room as Sheraton on the Falls. Beautiful view/room, plated dinners, wine service, open bar (that cost us a fortune, since people probably didn't realize we were paying almost $5/beer).

The reality of it is.. No mattter WHAT weddding you have.. it will be special.

Dont let family stress you out with their needs in YOUR wedding.. Talk to your bride and figure out what SHE wants.. Yes, i said She.. No matter what.. she is going to get what she wants out of the wedding more than anyone, so don't fight with her on it.. you will want to have very little involvement in the planning, so yes, its HER party to plan Discuss everything, but dont make the wedding a struggle. Talk to each other about your budget, and give yourself a pillow on the -side for just in case purposes...

and trust me, no matter how "pretty" the wedding will be for her, there will be that special touch she will do to make it feel for you like she thought only of you while planning it, and didnt get lost in the details.

The Ferrari cake above was my surprise to Nathan when we got married.. I led him to believe their would be no mint chocolate cake in our wedding cake, despite it being his favorite... Little did he know, i had planned for a VERY long time to have that cake made for him. It was ALL mint Chocolate.. my friends and i made a "race track" between the two cakes as a symbol of our "road race of life" .. i know its stupid.. but it was something i thougth long and hard about, on how to make him feel as special as he was making me feel that day.

The more relaxed you two are about it, the more fun you will have that day. I can honestly tell you i remember VERY little about the actual Ceremony, or reception. I remember beforehand.. and I recall the dancing.. and i remember going home more exhausted than i had ever been.. I still cant tell you what we ate that day...

Congratulations.
