If you had ~$5000 cash tomorrow...

Those Impala SS's really hold their value. A 5k one would be a royal hunk of shit.

And LS1 F-body at that price is pushing into problem territory/very high miles.

Could get a decent LT1 car for that.

Yeah the Impalas do hold their value really well, but occasionally you can find a decent one for cheap that only needs minor work. Someone on CR got one for pretty much nothing and it didn't need a whole lot.

The Trans Am in the corral on here is under $5k and doesn't seem like it needs much, just an example. Although you are correct, the miles certainly aren't low.

My suggestions:

- Porsche 944

- Toyota MR2

944's are OK, but make sure the timing belt has been done recently, holy shit are they expensive. The water pump alone was like $400 plus for the part. The cost is way higher, although they handle like a mid engine car.

Mazda Miata

Non-Turbo Z32 300zx

C4 Corvette

FC RX7 in nice shape

FB RX7

Datsun 240Z

3rd Gen F-body

BMW Z3

+1 for the MR2 91-93 years. Might get a turbo for that price. I have a friend selling a '71 Datsun 240z in ok shape for 40 years for $3500.

Miata

944 (parts are a lot, but hella fun to drive)

older corvette

Z3 or 4

90's M3

What the hell? That thing is sweet, I like it! Are those kinda rare?

Oh and it's in Denver, that's a bit of a drive :D

Very rare in the US, something like 1750 imported in 1990 and 1991. And it's worth the drive, Im looking at picking it up if my car sells soon enough.

5-cyl?

Yup, stock motor is a 5cyl N/A 20v
