Akula
I took a mig and plasma cutter class with these guys. if you need a shop to build something in, metal, wood, electronics... they are cheap and fun. They even have a laser engraver and shopbot. http://columbusideafoundry.com/

Drewhop
Pretty cool. Do they offer advanced classes or just kinda a one time class thing?
Akula
The welding instructor is an architectural welding guy, used to build metal furniture. If you want to talk advanced stuff, they would love that.
2011SVT
That sounds really cool. Is the class appropriate for those with *no* welding experience? :dumb:

Akula
No welding experience, has welding experience, it doesn't really matter. You can learn from these guys. And, if you need to weld something later - you can use the equipment to get it done. I was going to buy a welder but for the 2 or 3 projects I want to do, $15/hr is much cheaper and they are there if you need help.

wnaplay1647545503
So the classes are just a few hours for one day? Can you really get a basic understanding of welding in 4hrs beyond the basic knowledge you already have? I have welded a few things and understand the basics, but I want to be able to be a beter welder, can they teach you anything in 4hrs or is this a super basic class for someone who's never seen a welder? Akula
The class is for someone that wants to learn how to weld. The TIG class is a bit more advanced. If you want to weld things and get a critique, you can easily do that. The guys are all very experienced. I took the class because I wanted to learn how to mig and with the welds we put together, the critique they gave me - for a beginner class, I can now stick the things together I need to. I also understand how to make a good bead, tshoot when I am screwing up and how to better setup the machine for my materials and ability.
