Prodeje79
The Maximas have been gone for almost a year. I've been driving the 1997 ford taurus beater. I have approval from my wife to look for a newer car, around 10-12k. I really want: -a fully loaded car (not a cross-over/SUV/truck) -manual transmission -All Wheel Drive -Xenon HID headlights ( I know these can be added aftermarket, prefer factory installed) I am looking at midsize, so thinking legacy size vs impreza. Maybe I would go for a WRX though! I think an Audi S4 is totally out of range, plus I want to try to get the best MPG and still AWD. I've seen some decent deals on B7 A4s in the quattro with 6 speed manual transmissions. A car and driver article long term test on a 2005 legacy GT, really turned me off those. I don't think Nissan/Infiinty offered AWD with a MT, so I cannot look there. Perhaps a BMW 3 series AWD? I don't know! I've been reading and will keep reading. What are your thoughts???? I've been reading up and looking at 2006ish: -Audi A4 quattro 2.0T and 3.2 -Subaru Legacy GT -Mazdapeed6 Let me know if you see any good deals! Perhaps tell me what to avoid too! Bummed this guy just sold this, but still left his ad up: http://cleveland.craigslist.org/cto/2674891661.html http://www.audizine.com/classifieds/showproduct.php?product=62036&title=s-line-b7-a4-quattro-6-speed-sat-2fnav-xenons&cat=66 $13,999 2006 S line Audi A4. Blk/Blk. 6 Speed. Quattro. SAT/Navigation. Xenons. New timing belt/battery/water pump/accessory tensioner. 118K Highway Miles. Needs nothing. Make Offer. 2nd owner. Clean carfax in hand. No accidents or paintwork, even has original windshield. Great car with every option including heated seats for winter! KBB $16,474.00 with mileage and options. If the ad is up its still for sale. Patrick
I like my 06 Saabaru (06 WRX wagon). It has all of that listed above, with a heated windshield/side mirrors and seats. I like the tossability, aftermarket support and cargo capacity. In the Subaru vein, I was looking at the Legacys pretty hard before I came across my current car. They are very nice and comfortable, but be weary of modded cars, Subaru or Audi. I'm betting Jones could chime in on Audis. Edit: saw the Mazdaspeed listed too, I hear the reliability is meh. zeitgeist57
Mike, if you want something a little more upscale get the 2.0L A4. Maintenance is expensive, but I've got 125k miles on my Passat and was able to do nearly all of the work myself for anything that came up (with the help of CR folk). I have a V6 FWD 5-speed combo, and if I could've changed anything I would've gotten the 4-cyl. Are you saying the Legacy GT was NOT well-reviewed by C&D??? I really like those cars as well... Rally Pat
Pat's Saabaru was the first thing that came to my mind to. Sounds like a perfect fit for your requirements.

ALL: I appreciate the responses. I'd like to hear from jones! Please let me know if you see any deals!!!! Clay: I've really been looking at the B7 A4s with the 2.0T. I do like the better MPG it has over the V6 Found some good deals within a few states.... Lots in NY/NJ/New England area. Here is the review I read on the 2005 Legacy GT. http://www.caranddriver.com/reviews/2005-subaru-legacy-25gt-limited-long-term-road-test I've also read about wheel bearing issues being a pain. Maybe they worked out the kinks for 2006-2007?
Aaron
http://www.columbusracing.com/forums/showpost.php?p=1458723&postcount=3 Any high mileage 2.0T FSI, you will want to make sure the cam follower/cams/fuel pump are in good condition. That is the only big issue with these cars. Carbon build up is an issue too, but can be cleaned for around $300. A few common issues are the PCV system and diverter valve, both very common and fairly cheap to fix. The 3.2 had serious carbon issues, and gives you zero benefits over the 2.0t, I would not consider them at all. PS, be careful with the states you mentioned finding cars in, they tend to be harder on cars, especially NYC.
Prodeje79
I really have my heart set on a B7 2.0T FSI. It will probably be too difficult to make sure things are in good condition if the car is not local. This guy just lowered to 9k in Massachusetts. http://forums.vwvortex.com/showthread.php?5453847-FS-2005.5-A4-Black-in-MA-...CLEA I have found a few vw/audi forums. What do you recommend? both audizine and vw vortex seem full of info... EDIT: This weighs in just a little over my limit: http://www.cars.com/go/search/detail.jsp?listingId=77893052 EDIT2: This guy will take 13K, just missing HIDs, but has lots of other perks instead.... http://forums.vwvortex.com/showthread.php?5466072-2005.5-A4-S-line-6spd-80k-mi-APR-Stage-I-15k Edited November 14, 2011 by Prodeje79
iwashmycar
Just gotta find someone local to go look at it lol. If you find any in SC Ill be happy to go inspect.
Aaron
The 9k one will need an instant 500 in parts, more in labor if you don't do the timing belt/wp and regulator yourself. Also, the extended warranty for the cam follower is expired (100k miles). The price is low and he seems to be motivated, this would be appealing at 8k though. I would pay more for a better car, but the price is good. The third one looks like they used armor all on all the interior surfaces, seats included. It also has the s line front end, wheels and door blades, which are not factory on 05.5 cars. Id skip it for the price honestly. The second one seems to be the best of the 3 imo. still has some cam warranty left, looks stock and in really good shape. It has xenons, bose, premium package (rain sensing wipers, auto dim rear view morrors, power folding mirrors, etc) ps quartz gray is a sweet color, offer 11k and enjoy! Pps, make sure you do timing belt and cam follower if they haven't been done though.

Do you know a good site to understand all of the factory package/options etc? Wow this is nice, but out of range also. Aaron
You can call audi of america with a vin number and ask for the packages and original sticker price of any car you were looking at to see exactly what it has. Say you are looking at purchasing the car and want to be sure of the options it has, etc.

I called Audi to confirm packages and sticker on the 2nd one... http://www.cars.com/go/search/detail.jsp?listingId=77893052 It is pretty much fully loaded minus nav, rear side airbags, and TPMS -Cold Weather Pkg -Sport Pkg -Premium Pkg -Lighting Pkg -Xm Audio Pkg -Inc: Bose Premium Sound System -Headlight Washers It is covered under the 10yr/120k camshaft wear warranty and limited corrosion for 12 years. In service 4/26/05 1 owner with full service records at place he got it new. Audi dealer http://www.myimport.com/ http://www.carfax.com/VehicleHistory/p/Report.cfx?vin=WAUDF68EX5A436405 They said they are doing the timing belt and other required maintenance as we speak. She will call me back Wednesday. Should I ask for any other info? Should I get pics of the camshaft follower etc? What price would be a good price if they don't take 11k? I think I am ready to pull the trigger on this. They will deliver to Columbus for $200.

Aaron
Glad you got some info! Get a list of parts they will be replacing with the timing belt and compare with the kits online, make sure you have them replace the water pump if they aren't going to. Also, pics of the follower would be great. Other than that, offer whatever you want, its your money, but I think 12kit would be a good deal. I would try to put a deposit on it if you like it so much, loaded car with under 100kthe with maint taken care of for 12kthe is a good deal. Just a thought! Nice, There are tons of right up's about checking the cam follower, it can be done in 30-60 minutes depending on how slow you want to be. Mine is crossing the 112K mile mark and has been about the best DD I could imagine. If you aren't going to mod it, you can probably go 20K+ between follower changes, with aftermarket HPFP they will wear significantly faster. I would buy it, check the follower / cam yourself and bring it into Audi if necessary. Otherwise, just replace them every 4-5 oil changes and have a great car.
