Tire Shaving in Columbus?

Is there a local company shaving tires? ET Paul is a no.

Are you talking about shaving the nipples off the tires? I have a straight razor and will do it for $25 per tire.

Shaved as in reducing tread thickness; taking the 10/32 tread down to 5/32.

In a performance setting tires at full tread depth have several issues including tread squirm and they easily overheat and start chunking at full tread depth.

 

Shaving them can actually increase performance AND life of the tire.

 

...don't think anyone locally can do it though.

Only place I have found is TireRack. I blew a tire on my Suby and didn't want to buy all four new tires.

My father and I would always send them somewhere south to get shaved and then put them on our tire soaker. I will shoot him a text and see what the place was called.

Just checked he sent them out somewhere one time and it was pricey. Then he started doing them at Arnold Scott's or Jerry Buck's. He did use ET Paul a few times too. He said Arnold might still have the machine and he can do them if so.

That would be great. While shaving can be done for performance or to match a new tire to a set of used ones, in this case I just need the outside shoulders shaved a bit for fitment purposes. A little, "just in case" room. (it is not a fender lip interference issue)

I had mine done years ago at a semi truck tire reconditioning place. They add rubber to old tires the recarve the grooves in. Search for a place like this and you might have some luck.

My friend owns et Paul and I actually worked there years ago. I have never known them to shave tires.

My friend who works at Kelly BMW mentioned once that if they have a cupped tire on a car; depending on tread that they sometimes do that because of the expense of a new tire. I'm not sure if that was something they did in house or sublet but it'd be worth calling to ask.
