BigOxley
Mods, move this if in the wrong area. This is my Dad's truck. It was running rough so he ripped the intake manifold off last night. Once he gets it running smooth again, he is going to sell it to me. A little about the truck. It's a California truck. Sold to a guy in Michigan. Guy in Michigan sold it to my Dad. My dad let it sit outside over the past year. it's getting a little surface rust, but the under side is solid. It has the original 396 in it. 68,000 miles and probably needs an overhaul. Not sure about the transmission, or the brakes or anything. I haven't really looked the truck over that well. What would you guys do with it? My initial though is dropping a newer 5.3 Vortec engine/trans in it, airbags, power steering, and new wheels. The only thing I know I'm going to get is these 20" wheels in white... http://www.detroitsteelwheel.com/# http://www.hubgarage.com/photos/0544/7681/SEMA_SPONSOR_1_copy_detail.jpg What say you CR? Linn1647545492
i always wanted a c10 with a lsx motor.
John Bruh
nice truck. I just bought one too 5.3L with the 4l80e is pretty common on these trucks. If you're not on 67-72chevytrucks.com get on there you can find any thing you want to for these and about these. I'm deciding on if I should go 4.8L turbo, or 4bt cummins. Nickey4271647545519
If that an original BB truck, I'd keep the BB in there. It's also an anniversary truck which is neat. Should take of picture of SPID and post it. It's the tag located on the backside of the glove box door. Also being that it's a long bed, I wouldn't lower (much). Here's an example of what I think looks nice. It's a 70 lwb, with a 402/400 set up. http://i263.photobucket.com/albums/ii140/70cst/CSTNewShoes.jpg http://i263.photobucket.com/albums/ii140/70cst/70cst8-1-3-12016.jpg
gbracing81
I rock out that 396. The ls swap is cool but the truck is a complete classic with the original engine. I'd keep it that way. My $.
2pointslow
Keep it that color too please.
Green Bastard
I'd keep the 396 as well if I were you. That engine should meet any power goals you would want, plus it would prolly be as cost effective to refresh that engine as it would be to swap a lsx in. zeitgeist57
That beast is pretty straight. As I felt from Cleetus III, if you have a really good 20ft. finish, it's hard to justify a full repaint for a few rust spots; so much work for not much visual impact. Also, if it's running well enough, keep the 396 fo'sho. 20" steelies? I'm Zeitgeist57, and I approve this message. :megusta::megusta::megusta:
POS VETT
I'd keep it as stock-looking and as clean as possible.
BigOxley
thanks, guys. i appreciate the feedback. My dad initially freaked out when i told him about the possible engine swap. Paint is definitely staying the same and so it the original interior. this is what I imagined (but with the 20" steelies) http://image.classictrucks.com/f/9832771+w750+st0/0603ct_01_z+1968_chevy_c10+side_view.jpg
Drewhop
I like those wheels. Have you called them about pricing yet?
Nickey4271647545519
Along with the SPID can you get some pics of the interior? Also check out 67-72chevytrucks.com full of information and plenty of guys doing LS swaps (if you still want to go that route).
BigOxley
I like those wheels. Have you called them about pricing yet? I haven't, but other forums have been saying $220 per wheel for the 20"

turbospec29
I always remembered this truck and wanted to build something like it someday http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jrXcBvWU3y0
POS VETT
That steel wheel weighs forty seven pounds for a 20x9; it is $220 plus $25 for powdercoating. The wheel has dual PCDs of 5x4.75 and 5x5. If you want other PCDs, there is an upcharge. If you want wider wheel, there is an upcharge for the rim part will be split and a rim section welded in. Chrome-plating is extra and they could do chrome-plated rim with powdercoated center section. Baby moons, beauty rings, bullets are all extra. I'd go with Centerline California Smoothie instead. Unless you are going with copper-plated wheels. Edited October 12, 2012 by POS VETT
Nickey4271647545519
I forget, but someone usually has smoothies like those wheels on sale. Big smoothies look awesome on these trucks. http://hubgarage.s3.amazonaws.com/photos/1382799/68_C10__39__detail.JPG ^one of my personal favorites. Mattsv8
Swear to god u put 20s on a perfect classic truck like that u should be drug around by said truck till ur skin falls off. Really 20s on a new truck who gives a shit. Old classic. A pair of staggerd wheels like a 17 front 18 rear lowered for a touring look is amazing. Id keep the 396 and give it some power. That's a sharp truck id love to do a old classic like that but make it look good not gawdy.

And it would be a blast to drive. Ps don't do 20s. My e opinion
BigOxley
no biggie, i asked for opinions. i've been looking. probably leaning toward a front brake conversion with a spindle drop and drop the back end. clean up the rust spots. refresh the motor. i want new wheels, though. POS VETT
I love that dropped C10 with huge wheels too. I wouldn't do that much drop on the C10 in question but I still wanted those huge California Smoothies.
