skip the VR6, its in older platforms, and not something I'd recommend.

Look at the Jetta, or 4 door Golf with the 2.5 I5 engine. They can sound as good as the VR6, but are dead reliable. Get one with a 5 speed manual, and it's about as reliable a car as you can expect.

Jettas started in 2005, and the Golfs in 2007. I'd try for a Golf 4dr.

What year were the awd golf's made? There is one on nfs pro street but doesn't say what year.

Or are they all awd?

Jesus. Christ.

Do your research outside of video games and movies. This is why you'll never be taken seriously, ever.

Are you just encouraging the Civic because you want him to have a slow car? I see nothing at all wrong with the Caliber posted, looks like a really great deal.

Caliber is okay but from crash test reports I've seen online a civic is safer. He has a family to take care of. That is why I encourage Hondas.

If he was asking what 2nd or 3rd fun car should I buy I wouldn't recommend a civic.

Like I mentioned before, I don't want to race anything. I just want something that is fun to drive.

you know what's fun to drive??

a car that starts every time you turn the key, never overheats, never breaks, is cheap to maintain, and safe for your children.

a second car can be a toy, a project, whatever you want. i would buy the newest, lowest mileage car you can afford.

I have to agree with everyone else. Get something sensible and safe. Realistically I know nothing of the lincoln you drive, if it still fits the bill keep it around as a daily and buy a cheap project car. Buy a miata and turbo it, or dont. They're fun either way but make sure you have a safe reliable daily first.

You should be using legitimate websites, or dealers for a quality used car. Not some salvage title POS, that has mods thrown at it and 125k miles.

See if Jordan at JET Auto can get you a clean car. 7k is more than enough.

Apparently you left before you got to know the_buster. Read his past threads and educate yourself. Perhaps you'll see why he should definitely not buy a Miata and turbo it.

I like the look of this. Thoughts?

Also other than the loan issue is there anything wrong with a rebuilt title? Our crv is a rebuilt.

Again, great cars, but there are plenty out there for the same price with similar or less miles with a clean title. Don't worry about finding a modded car. You need a reliable family oriented car that can be driven anywhere at anytime with no concern.

Great post. Very helpful. Quick question though, how much neon lighting and vinyl would be needed to achieve a 5 star rep?

No.

Like everyone else has stated, think of your family first. Do you really think some ones beat piece of crap is going to be a good reliable family car?

Buy something clean and unmolested from a legitimate dealer, not a salvage title modded/riced POS from craigslist. Come on now Buster. Repeat after me...

LEGITIMATE

AUTO

DEALERS

NOT

CRAIGSLIST

MOUTH

BREATHERS

And don't listen to anyone who is telling you to buy a Corolla. Are you a high school girl? No, so don't buy a fucking Corolla unless it's an older $500 beater. If you spend $7k on a Corolla, you might as well cut your balls off and collect stamps for the rest of your life.

I don't understand why you are trolling craigslist now trying to window shop cars that won't be available six months from now when you get your tax return. I like the idea of talking to Jordan to see what he can do for you. He should have plenty of time to track down a good reliable car in your price range.
