What the heck are you tugging with a 250ci straight-6 and a floating-axle dually rear end? Half that engines' output is lost just keeping that axle rotating, let alone hauling something tied to it externally...

Duh..

Wonder what gear ratio is in the rear end. With enough gearing it could move mobile homes. Not very fast, but it could move them.

So those bobtail tugs were built by Chevrolet to pull Military and civilian aircraft. the straight 6 Chevy C10s replaced 4 banger Jeep CJ based tugs. You aren't pulling C130s or 747's with them but something the size of a falcon jet or an F16 wouldn't be a problem. For the bigger aircraft they had C-20 tugs:

From 1984-1986 the military replaced their Chevys with the Jeep CJ-10A to tow aircraft:

It used a 3.3L inline 6 diesel Nissan engine.

some days I really miss the 1980's street freaks. Tunnel Rams, Candy paint, chrome mud flaps, side-pipes, chrome cragar s/s wheels, it's like a time capsule. Don't know why his caps lock is stuck...probably the same reason why he hasn't driven it:

I WAS WORKING 7 DAYS A WEEK WHEN I BUILT IT AND I DIDN'T HAVE TIME TO DRIVE IT. IT HAS ALWAYS BEEN GARAGE KEPT SINCE I OWNED IT.

I DROVE IT A FEW TIMES & PROBABLY HAS LESS THAN 30 HOURS ON THE ENGINE IN THE PAST 30 YEARS.

Inline six engines produce more torque per cubic inch than their V-engine counterparts.
