 I can't believe everyone made fun of FocusDave for twitter messages :)

but srsly, that's too bad :(

This is more than a Twitter message, one of our own can't waste his time at work any longer. This is a sad Twitter message. And he can't even read these messages right now. :(

If his proxy server or content filter is worth it's weight, it will be blocking anonymizers and proxies as well. I know I do.
You can only block the ones you know about. There are thousands of new ones each day, which is why I post the Google search links. I always used to just setup a RDP box at my house, remote into it, and browse from it.
thaaaat sucks.

it's one of the negatives about a forum that allows swearing and pron.

Not negative to me, however. :D

Actually, the swearing and porn have nothing to do with it. A lot of employers block forums that aren't related to work.

Maybe not in this case, but it could be another trigger for the web filter.

The porn could be if it were hosted here, which it's not. So when you visit any of the threads in the NWS section, those pictures are hosted on other sites, so those sites could get blocked. That's why we have a lot of instances where from work you won't be able to see some pictures. That's because the sites hosting those pictures have been blocked.

As for swearing, usually only parental filters block sites with swearing. I don't know of any employers that do. I know if you blocked sites with swearing I wouldn't be able to do my job. All the IT forums have swearing. Fuck, I swear a LOT.

That's what a filtering service subscription is for. Instant updates so I don't have to. Thank you, SmartFilter.

You are correct in that if the site has not been categorized yet, it won't get blocked. But alas, there are ways to block it by inspecting the content of the page (Vontu). It all depends on the company's policy and how far they want to go. I happen to work where we get audited year round and they are very anal about where the employees surf.

Same as you...I RDP back home when I want to add a new torrent to my list or browse somewhere I know will be blocked. Thankfully, OR isn't on that list.

Okay, I thought you worked for a filtering service by the way you were talking. My bad. So yeah, not that YOU find, but that the filtering service finds.

Nah..I administer the firewalls and proxy server, as well as general network engineering, for a big health insurance provider in Cleveland.

holy shit batman?! is this permanent? I'm totally giving out this URL from now on

No, it isn't permanent. It was another site I was hosting, but it kinda fell along the wayside. I plan on bringing it back eventually, but for right now it just points here.

*yawn* shouldn't this be moved to the NERD section?

:D
