I knew I was in trouble when the yellow light came on right after I got on.......it coughed 1/4 mile from the next service plaza. LOLI kid you not, that is the second time I have done that exact same thing in my lifetime. 20 or so years ago in a car going to Toledo...I forgot to get gas and was hammering away in the left lane when the car coughed...I was RIGHT at the 100 mile post service plaza...jammed the brakes to get over and make the ramp and coasted right up to the pumps. wacky_woodchuck Posted March 20, 2010 Report Share Posted March 20, 2010 I've never been able to coast to the pumps. Mine episodes usually involve cursing, sweating, pushing and general pissy-ness. The worst was pushing my Buell to over 220 miles on a little 4.4 gallon tank. Fell 1 mile short on 71. That last mile was a steady uphill push and the nearest gas station wasn't really near the highway. Nothing like pushing a fully geared up bike with a weeks worth of crap. Now, I learned my lesson. If I stay easy on it, it'll go to 130ish before the light, I've never pushed it past 150. Too chicken and don't feel like pushing the awkward beotch. I had the idea to one day soon just strap a tank on to the luggage rack and go out and find out...so that I would know for sure.Well, now I know. Worked out very well. I don't keep track of how I'm riding- aggressive or not. I get a similar range, from 110-160 before the reserve light comes on, and about 25 miles when it does. Only my ornery bitch has decided to not trip the reserve light on occasion. Walked her at least 2 miles so far this season, and more than that last year. Has a 2.2 gallon tank. I'd hate to try and ride too far. I try and fill up every time it ride even on my VFR just to keep fresh gas in it, plus it gives me a chance to grab a snack. Hammer down on the freeway vs just cruising along is a big swing in mileage.i had my light come on once sitting at a red light, flipped it to reserve...light turned and i immediately pulled into the gas station sitting right at the intersection...it died about 5 feet before the pumpthe other day, my gas light came on, i put it on reserve and was pulling holeshots down morrison for 10mins and rode another 5miles to my house and it did finemy gas light scares me lol Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
