Like I said, Doom Jazz-- they use a lot of the theme elements, mood, and structure from Doom Metal (which, like all metal, is rooted in jazz and blues anyway), but they're essentially playing jazz. I dig it, anyway.

I didn't mean to imply that Bohren & Der Club of Gore was actually a metal band, just that their sound was derived from a combination of elements of those styles.

I like it, reminds me of really old Sabbath

I've been listening to a lot of the Devin Townsend Band and Project lately, the skullet rules.

That and his other band, Strapping Young Lad, it's pretty Death Metal.

Dimmu Borgir, I guess they call them Symphonic Death.

Opeth, they're Progressive Death, but they're all over the place and I like those places.

Spending a lot of ear time on trance and progressive house

find 320kbps pod casts (they run about 60 minutes each - 200+ Mb):

Trance Nation (Scandinavian broadcast - Hamburg, Germany) (DJ John De La Mora mostly)

Trance Wars (Chicago broadcast - Munich Germany) (DJ Armin van Buuren mostly)

State of Trance - (DJ Armin van Buuren)

edit: Trance Wars is the broadcast/podcast from Chicago, of the Armin van Buuren State of Trance mixes

so far I think there are 25+ available...

(more like over a hundred, but dunno where...)

Seriously? Someone else on here likes both Opeth and Porcupine Tree? How about Katatonia? Micheal Akerfeldt from Opeth did vocals on one of their early albums.

Their style's jumped around a bit over the years, from doomish metal to depressive rock with a few interesting detours in between.

Also, here's Anathema. They've toured with Porcupine Tree (if I remember right they also have done session stuff/ production on each other's albums). They started out in the UK as a doom-metal band, then went into ambient, prog-influenced stuff. Sort of.

I like those guys too, I listened to Katatonias Last Fair Deal Gone Down(their best cd IMO) a LOT after my wife died, I picked up on Anathema sometime around then too, I think A Fine Day To Exit is their best in the death to doom to mood transition.

If you like those bands, you might like Agalloch, out of Portland,Or, they're kind of prog death. Moody stuff.

Your stock just shot way the hell up. :)

I find that I can crystallize the majority of my trance listening to the Trance channel on di.fm. Set it at home with Streamripper and I've got multiple days of tunes to go through.

Here are my main Pandora stations right now. I'm still training some of them (so they'll still occasionally play stupid stuff), but overall they're not too bad:

Bohren & Der Club of Gore (German Doom-Jazz, plus older jazz and ambient stuff)

http://www.pandora.com/?sc=sh217636588662935132

Katatonia (Originally a metal band, now more depressive rock)

http://www.pandora.com/?sc=sh245787535192739420

Industrial (Lots of Front Line Assembly, some VNV Nation, etc)

http://www.pandora.com/?sc=sh247085401295146588

Legions (Lots of Antimatter and other downtempo acoustic stuff)

http://www.pandora.com/?sc=sh245787775710907996

La Grange (Generally older blues-rock: ZZ Top, SRV, etc)

http://www.pandora.com/?sc=sh245787612502150748

Taake (Old-school blackmetal: Satyricon, mayhem, etc.)

http://www.pandora.com/?sc=sh243377276855635548

Denali (Artsy chick indie, plus some other alternative stuff)

Yeah, I don't know what it is, but it's great to listen to when riding.

edit: And I just found another 15 podcasts... all in 256/320kbps, of course...
