whats with the name? makes me wanna see if it floats!

its actually a Suzuki GT750, its nicknamed the water buffalo because it was big and was the first production water-cooled Japanese motorcycle. I know someone who has one in pieces in their garage, ive been thinking about buying it, but i know parts are hard to come by

Maybe 'cause it was the first mass production Japanese water cooled bike?

Oh, and it wasn't exactly svelte (550~lbs.) compared to its contemporaries.

Justa guess.

added "mass production" before getting called out by some obscure 1-off

It was a liquid cooled 2 stroke. Not sure how it got the name, but they were legendary in the 70's.

Yeep, an incredibly different bike. I seem to remember that they were relatively bullet proof for the era. People could put a lot of miles on them, and top end rebuilds were simple. The sound they made was unique, being water cooled two stroke. Deputy Sheriffs that did escort duty got into them, and they were popular for that. At least in the central Ohio area, anyway.

You should get two, to build one. The best way to find parts.

And another one in Michigan for $875:

Looks like complete restored water buffalos list to sell for $3000 to $4000
