Texas driver charges motorcycle cop

Wednesday, 05 January 2011

It appears the disrespect felt by the general public toward bikers isn’t limited to the everyday motorcycle enthusiast but applies to the world of law enforcement as well.

Case in point, a Texas driver who wouldn’t respect a funeral procession.

A Fort Worth motorcycle officer had to jump out of the way to avoid being run over by a woman annoyed with the traffic from a funeral procession. What made the incident even more sensitive, the funeral procession was in honor of slain police officer Jillian Smith's. The driver ran into the motorcycle near during the funeral procession for Jillian Smith, a 24-year-old Arlington officer who was killed while saving the life of an 11-year-old girl.

According to Fort Worth Police Sgt. Dave Stamp, a motorcycle officer was standing beside his motorcycle when the crazed woman revved the engine of her Honda and aimed the car at him.

Local reporters noted the woman was angry and refused to drive where police officers directed her.

According to Fort Worth Police Sgt. Dave Stamp, a motorcycle officer was standing beside his motorcycle when the crazed woman revved the engine of her Honda and aimed the car at him. The driver intentionally drove into the motorcycle according to eyewitnesses.

"The officer jumped out of the way. I saw it happen. I stepped out in front and tried to stop her," Stamp said. Allegedly, the woman then extended her middle finger and drove off.

But it was a police pursuit, on a motorcycle that brought the incident to its immediate end.

“It was a full-fledged pursuit” noted Stamp with the driver supposedly running through stop signs to avoid police.

It was only when the 67 year old woman was stuck in traffic that allowed police officials to apprehend the suspect. But even then, the suspect was swinging at the first officer at the scene.

The woman told investigators she acted out because she had taken only one Xanax in the morning, rather than two, police said.

She is charged with hit and run and evading arrest.

WOW. So many wrongs...:nono:

It was he (lack of) drugs that made me do it.

Yeah.. like a serious lack of editing skills. That was hard to read.

On a moar serious note.. folks that don't pull over for a funeral procession are scum. Folks that actually pass a funeral procession are even moar scummy.

On a 4 lane highway most people just travel past them. 2 lane, yeah, don't pass. If I'm on a 2 lane and they're coming the other way then I stop and pull over. If they're on a 4 lane and they're on the other side of the median I do not stop.

Not many people stop coming the opposite way. Whenever I do, I usually get honked at and sped around.:nono:

It happened so much that I thought I was in the wrong. :o

I thought we looked that up and you don't have to stop when going the other way.

I prefer to stop, and have even seen MC PD escorts force all 4 lanes to stop for funerals.

Usually by riding their MC down the wrong side of the road with intent...
