This thread has been pretty entertaining, thanks for that.

I'll still wave at anyone on two-wheels, even if it's a two-wheeled powered wheel-barrow.

I have a mesh jacket and it's just as cool as a t-shirt, with tons more protection-something to think about. The helmet thing is your call (just don't forget eye-pro), but I've had so many birds/rocks/debris/etc hit my head while riding I'd never ever ride without one. That shit will take an eye out, cause an accident, or worse and it happens to me at least yearly.

the only time that helmets break necks is when i ride by your woman, going to star bucks on my ducati, in my full racing getup like i'm living out some queer street motogp fantasy.

you ride your girlfriend's bike, i ride your girlfriend. fair is fair.

Geez man, sorry to hear of your loss. As for your stance on the issue, you don't need a helmet when your head is that far buried in the sand. I would imagine you have never been personally involved in a wreck. Sorry to say but when you are finally involved in an accident I will not be placing wagers on the survival rate.

I have crashed three motorcycles (1 street, 2 dirt) and I was wearing helmets for all of them. This doesn't even come close to how many times I have crashed 3 and 4-wheelers when I was younger and eaten dirt from the landing.

In all three cases of crashing the motorcycles I hit face/head first with full face helmets on. Not only has my neck never been broken but I also still have my nose, teeth and skin. The accident with my streetbike was a '76 cb750 that I highsided mid turn at about 50. I was unconscious from the impact for over 2 minutes while laying in the middle of the road. I wish I still had the helmet I was wearing at the time. It was plain to see from the road rash on one side and the rubber marks on the other (from the bike hitting my head as it tumbled) I would have never survived the impact without it. That was the one and only time in my life I have ridden in an ambulance and I ended up spending the rest of the day being checked at the hospital. The worst injuries (other than the concussion) I had where to my legs as I was not wearing protective pants to go with my helmet, gloves, boots and coat.

Me personally, I will continue to wear my gear and preach safety to new and old riders alike as it has saved my life now on at least 3 occasions. As I do with other opinionated people with no chance of changing their minds I will gladly respect your opinions if you wish, but will neither ride with you or wave to people without gear on the road (regardless of what bike they are riding). :nono:

I hope you duck in that thing.

I love that thing! It's big and comfortable. I can fully stretch my legs out (36" inseam). It gets decent mileage- 25mpg. It has decent pickup. It's been reliable (for a GM). What more could you want in a car? I don't need a chick magnet. I've been married for ever and ever.

At first I thought you were talking about the big woman in the pic posted above. :wtf:

And since I am not afraid of death, I'm happy. I've experienced so much in life already, so if I die today, I will die happy.

And your girlfriend? It's great to know that you're willing to die, but instead of calling the rest of us kids and making cracks about posts appearing when school is out... Man up and realize you have a responsibility to others and not just yourself. Even if you don't have kids or other family members, I'm willing to bet that your GF would miss you if you got into an accident and died.

As for helmet being the cause of death... Let me make an analogy... One time when I was gambling in a casino, playing blackjack, the dealer was showing a face card and the some drunk idiot had 19. He hit. He got a two. Dealer had 20, he had 21, and he won. Does this mean the right thing to do is hit a 19 in blackjack? Hell no. You can't take 3 cases and think that since "well that time it worked out" (or the reverse) that it's the mathematically sound thing to do.

Who knows, maybe you talked to your GF and she's willing to go on with her life knowing you're ready to die and be pretty non chalant about it.

Know what? I respect someone's decision to not wear a helmet if they want to "feel free, ride free, BE free." I might not agree with it, but I respect it. But when you tell me you don't wear a helmet because you think it's more dangerous? Then I don't respect that viewpoint, and it causes me to lose a little respect for you, too. If you really think helmets do more harm than good, then you're an idiot. And I very rarely resort to name calling and insults. nothing personal, but... Again, if you think helmets do more harm than good, no matter what your personal experiences are with friends, then, again, you're an idiot.

i know that in the past, my mantra has been "I'll fuck anything".... but allow me to amend that to "I'll fuck anything... once"

You'd probably do it twice... Just not tell your friends about it ;)

SShhhh. The British are re-taking the Colonies slowly by lobbying silently for removing helmet and seatbelt laws and spreading scary misinformation about "spring-loaded rusty death-trap helmets" We're hoping all the rabid "USA FREEDOM!" people die in accidents as they exercise their right to choose to stupid things. Then when the only people left are socialists and liberals the transition to the UK government will be pretty seamless. Turn in your guns and banjos and we'll give you a bag of fish and chips.
