madcat6183
I'm not that vindictive. The cameras exist to act as a witness in a crash. An ancillary bonus is that I can post up youtube videos of weird things, near misses and angry cops and make hundreds of dollars a month on adsense (I made $1607 December alone). You can bet this video will go up there too and make me some money. If the shop is going to deal with that one employee then why would I want to hurt the shop as a whole? Especially one I have an established long-term custoemr relationship with? They've always done good work in the past and never been stupid. No need to put the hurt on people for mistakes when those mistakes are corrected.I thought it was an interesting thing worth talking about. If you don't, sorry.Hey if you are making money I retract everything I said because now you caught my attention! Didn't know you could make $ like that, but that actually is pretty cool. FZRMatt
Yes. This protects me when I post videos of what people in the car say - no wiretap violation of the space is posted as subject to audio recording. People outside the car are in public anyway so it doens't matter. The only requirement for "wire tapping" in Ohio is that one of the parties know that the recording is taking place. conn-e-rot
The only requirement for "wire tapping" in Ohio is that one of the parties know that the recording is taking place.Would that even matter in this case? Do you have an expectation of privacy in someone's vehicle? Wouldn't being in the vehicle driving down the road put you in public?
Helmutt
I find it interesting as this very same thing happened to my truck - I physically witnessed a tech take off in my truck on an after-repair "test drive" - as soon as he was out of the lot and on the street, he smashed the pedal and ran the piss out of it down the street......while he was gone, I went inside and asked the service manager if this behavior was company protocol.......he got very pissed it happened in general, but worse yet that I saw it happen. I explained that I didn't want anyone to lose their job, just that he be cautious when driving customer's vehicles as they are not his to damage or destroy -- aparently the tech was a new-hire, and as the service manager walked him over to me to apologize - I accepted, shook their hands and signed my bill to leave.......I don't know if he still works there or not as it's been several years ago.........but I'm not shy - it was at Joseph Airport Toyota in Vandalia:DNow mind you, this is the ONLY episode I've ever had with this dealer in almost 20 years dealing with them.......for the record, they've always been very professional and do great work imo

Didn't know you could make $ like that, but that actually is pretty cool.Youtube account + Google Adsense (those ads on the videos) = I get a couple bucks for every thousand views, and about a buck per click on the ad. I had a runaway vid that scored over 1m hits in december. That vid is still going. I made $400 in november, $1600 in december and $300 in january. FZRMatt
So, a sign inside the car saying that audio is being recorded keeps me in compliance with wiretap laws.Should be above and beyond. I might be looking at this incorrectly, but they should have no expectation of privacy from you in your vehicle to begin with. Look at it like the "Bait Car" our Auto Squad uses. Full audio and video inside. They park it and wait for someone to take it, then all recordings are used against them in court. The bad guys don't know it is there, and we have no idea who is going to take it in order for us to get a warrant to "conduct a wire tap". The great part is that the car even makes the arrest for them. It locks the door "trapping" them inside, then they sit and wait for the officers to let them out. Gixxus Christ!
I would want my pound of flesh out of the little shit. What if he had blown out your motor or tranny? What if he has caused stress and damage that will lead to a major failure down the road? In this case I wouldn't feel bad about him losing his job, he is asking for it. The fact that he ran the piss out of your car means he has no respect for, and probably harbors contempt for the customers who put money in his pocket. I would demand a refund and that the kid be sacked in front of me.
DrewsBrews
I wouldn't demand someone gets fired. But I would raise a stink about paying for my vehicle to be abused. It's up to them to make the decision if it's costing them money.

Helmutt
Joseph's Toyota is a great place. They were a customer of mine when I was in automotive paint sales. They had great techs working there!Yes they do, but this one kid was an exception - hopefully he took the managers advice and retains a lucrative career there. They have been in business a long time and have grown exponentially for a reason - good product, good service.
snot
I use to take my old car to a shop and everytime they messed something up. The first time they forgot to tighten my lug nuts, then it was they forgot to hook up my ebrake cable, after about 3 xs I stopped going. Everyone else I know that goes there has great service and no issues. I did complain everytime and they did make it right with me.

jporter12
Did the mechanic have a ponytail? :jporterdrivesitlikehestoleit: Seriously, I have had a couple times when the customer goes with me, or tells me that I wasn't driving it hard enough. I probably run customer vehicles a little harder than they would, but in no way do I abuse them.I won't go to a shop unless I'm forced to. And I'll hang around until it's finished.Even oil change places will lie to you. If the filter is too difficult to get to they just change the oil and send you on your way. I bet most Nitros and late model liberties still have the factory oil filter. That's just dishonest. I have refused to do a few jobs that were either dishonest deals, or would leave the vehicle in an unsafe condition (even if it was better than when it came in) when it was done.
