Turbotom09
I can't believe they fly this fuckin thing. They sit in those two seats and steer with steering wheels. And they look like fighter pilots they have the full oxygen masks on. Interesting...
gen3flygirl
I wonder why they use o2. I doubt that thing could get anywhere close to the altitudes you would normally need it . Thing is pretty sweet though. Which airport do you work at?
Turbotom09
I work at dayton intl.Maybe it's not oxygen, but just helmets and goggles? You can see them sitting on the seats, they look like the masks you wear in a fighter
oldschoolsdime92
Wild. Maybe they picked them up at a garage sale ?
ReconRat
The replica Wright flyers are based at Dayton AFB. There are two of them they fly or haul around for display and shows. My boss's Father used to be the tech sargent on those. There's also an indie out of Dayton, Wright "B" Flyer Inc.The original is at Carillon Park nearby.http://www.carillonpark.org/"The original, restored 1905 Flyer on display at Wright Hall located at Carillon Park, a 65-acre, outdoor museum and historic buildings dedicated to preserving the history of the Miami Valley."I've seen them fly into a headwind and go backwards for ground speed.edit: I'm pretty sure they stay below 500 feet wherever they go. ReconRat
You know you can build one of those. It's not all that hard.Same with most biplanes, although the engine will be whatever.I wanted to build a J-3 Cub from scratch. Maybe some day. scottb
I am not really into airplanes, but that is cool to see that plane can even fly. That had to be a labor of love to build / fly that plane. Sometimes it is neat to go back to the beginning of any industry and see where we started from. AndyJ
Maybe the masks are to let them use an intercom or handheld? If they're going to Oshkosh they need to give 'er the whip, it starts tomorrow; it'll be over before they get there.
