  6. To me, "Heritage" and "Tradition" are HD code words for not having to innovate because they feel that CUSTOMERS OWE THEM RESPECT for stuff they did 50 years ago. They've over-tuned and over-specialized their customer experience. It's brilliant actually, except Indian is now eating into both of those claims (Indian was right there when Harley got started and inspired a lot of HD's models). Furthermore their highly-tuned customer base is dying off and Harley knows it - there are only so many greybeards with $15-30k to drop on a new bike and another $5-10k on accessories and clothing when cheaper, more capable, better-performing and more broadly-appealing bikes are available from others. Where's their sports bike? Their ADV bike? Their cafe racer? Their scrambler? Their dirt bike? Something for young kids to start with? They didn't have to address any of that in the past because they've been allowed to coast by their faithful. I think HD is smacking their established customer core with a cue ball because they're realizing that the world is changing. Water cooling, an electric bike, a 500 and 750 made in India, more tech in their flagship cruisers - all point to a brand new era for HD. Putting that to their customer base all at once is veritable shock-and-awe! Even if HD is successful with half of their new moves, it'll still shake up expectations. They'll lose some customers because of it, but they will get others to replace the fold.

  11. Since Dan posted the 2014 one the least I could do is atleast make the 2013 one public. I uploaded it back in December I think, never went public with it since I thought people won't like the experiment with classical music. Anyways the video is on the first post itself Can only be viewed on computer and not in mobile device another crappy set up from YouTube

  13. The longevity is what intrigues me about the WR so much. I plan to use it as my commuter bike also. Im not looking to be super fast. Just to have some fun. I won't be actually racing the bike. just playing.

  15. That said I think the thing looks gorgeous. If they can improve on the 50-mile range reports that I've been seeing, I'll probably continue to want one of these even though I won't be able to afford the doublessly-stratospheric MSRP.

  16. Look at the line I quoted, you said "All Japanese companies do is..." when clearly you are wrong, for better or worse the Japanese have done more engineering and innovation in the last generation of motorcycles than harley has done in the past 50 years.

  17. I'm a big buell, and now EBR fan. I've actually been waiting on this bike for years. Unfortunately, EBR took a little longer than originally anticipated and I ended up purchasing a different bike. I think the performance for this bike will be very on par for the competition and price tag. Aesthetically, I wish they would have gone with a shorter, more lightning-esque subframe and seat. I absolutely love that all software for TC is produced in house. They do, however, need to figure out ABS. All their competition has ABS. I believe these bikes will sell well, to aficionados. I don't think hoards of new buyers will be beating down EBR's door. It's a bike made for buell people by buell people.

  19. Nonsense. Just roll around screaming loud engine noises. No one will even know the difference. Although I do really like the design. It is defiantly buellesque. And as a buell enthusiast I appreciate that. Anxious to see how it performs. With all these new bikes it almost looks like Harley is trying to sell motorcycles instead of t-shirts an leather lol. What has the world come to.

  21. This tech is not new, people have been doing it for years...they can actually listen to the sound of your processor and use that to get encryption keys. There is a saying in IT, if you don't have physical security over your systems you don't have any security.

  25. Looks good, Butters. Where ever did you get that idea? Did mine over winter. Why the manufactures want to add some dull silver and gray to an otherwise all black frame I'll never understand.

  26. Yea, got to give them credit for that. First to go with fuel injection, water cooling and built in nav.

  28. Leave it at home. If you really need to ride for a day go rent one. http://www.beachhousehd.com/ Only 12 miles from Holden Beach. A sportster is like $50 for 7 hours. I'm not a Harley guy myself but I can ride anything for one day.

  30. Nice work Doc. I dug the soundtrack. I'm a sucker for tastefully melodic music especially when it's in minor key. Much bigger group last year, but this years group was still an impressive number considering the last minute reschedule. Hoping we can get another setup this fall

  31. That all? I pooped 3 times before I left the house for the office. The wife (still getting used to this) treated me to an 8000 calorie dinner since I was too busy to eat all dayA 1lb burger with fried jalapeños, bacon, pepper jack cheese, onion ring and chipotle mayo type sauce. Tack on some chili cheese fries on the side too for good measure she said. It'll be fun she said. Tell that to my colon this morning

  35. Yes, but only for your own children - you don't have the same level of influence over their friends, and believe me as a parent of a teen - you won't always know exactly when or who will be over. Ditto. My daughter is trained and knows not just when to avoid them, but when to use one. And they're secure from non-family use.

  36. So my father was a LEO, he carried a 357mag. It was generally within reach. At about age 5 or 6 he took each of us out to teach us about guns. Lesson 1, he put rounds into full water jugs so we could see what it would do. Lesson 2, he would put the 357 in our hands and have us pull the trigger. After we pick our self up, he would say "Now you know what it can do, don't ever touch it again" and none of us did. Education works.

  37. Education is the key, I have firearms hidden around my house that are loaded and ready for when stuff hits the fan. Although they are mostly out if reach, my children know where they are and are taught that they are off limits unless they ask and are supervised. And if curiosity ever gets to them they know all they have to do is ask to handle one or go shoot it and it's a done deal. I don't shelter my kids they know exactly what a firearm is capable of doing and the consequences. Now when their friends are over I do take extra precautions but honestly that's not that often. So again I say Education, Education, Education is the key, and they are never too young.

  39. "IF" you're going the cruiser route it has to be a Harley. They have better quality parts (no pot metal) and it's original not a cheap imitation. Besides that we do live in America after all nothing says 'Murica like a Harley does.
