  1. Oh hell yea Travis! Dude, as you damned well know, that is the most incredible and important thing you will do in your life, hands down. Your son or daughter will challenge in you in ways you can't possibly anticipate now, but without you there, rising to the challenges, they will not have their true dad in their lives. I'm not exaggerating when I say that my own "surprise" daughter, now 19, has saved my life and focussed me on what's important more times than I can count over the years. A huge and sincere congratulations to you and your fiancee, Travis!

  5. Let's meet up for some good food, good brew, and good stories to kick this riding season off. Figure meet at 4pm to beat the dinner crowd and hang out until whenever. Chime in here if you plan to attend so we can get a basic headcount. If we can get 20 or more to come, there's a balcony party room we can have to ourselves. http://www.dhtmiamisburg.com Dark Horse Tavern 209 Byers Rd Miamisburg, OH

  14. So being that people are putting up pictures. The autocross event was when I realized how much was wrong with the car. The second picture was motor work and starting the suspension rebuild. It's back on the road now and doing better than it ever had since I've owned it.

  16. I have an '87 Buick Grand National for my fair weather, funday, car. It's been a project for me for the last 2 years with doing a top end motor refresh and a full suspension bushing retrofit.

  20. I am glad to hear you are doing better. Is the Y membership helping? if it does, we could put together a donation at the meets for you if not we can still donate money to help with other expenses. If you are ok with it, I will handle it at the Dayton and Cbus meet and greets.

  21. That is actually what happened in California with lane splitting. It isn't specifically 'legal'. What happened is years ago the chief for the highway patrol whet very public saying it was not 'illegal' and his officers would no longer write tickets. That then caught on with the rest of the leo's. And gradually cagers got used to it, bikers learned how to do it and it was all smooth. Your concern for disaster if we go all in at once is well founded.

  22. My friend from highschool hasn't had a job since he was 16. He has a nice 2500 Duramax, a brand new Jetta Sport Wagon, a 1JZ Powered 3 Series BMW, and a pristine 2003 BMW M5 and a VERY nice apartment. On top of that hes got some stupid couple grand a month allowance on top of him having a joint bank account with his rich ass dad. He is a stay at home son and doesn't do jack shit for the stuff he has and has had since highschool. (Lets not turn this into a parenting discussion, they have shown me how not to be parents.) Life isn't fair. Deal with it. I've learned that at a very young age. It isn't an excuse.

  23. Without a sustained and well-done media campaign by DOT, lane splitting will be contentious and problematic here because few people outside of super-congested California understand or appreciate the benefits (to them) and the safety increase to us. Every time I talk this over with non-bikers, their objections are either: It's unsafe (they just feel this, with no substantiation or experience), or ultimately it's not fair that you get to "cut ahead of everyone"....even if you explain reducing the traffic load gets them them to their destination faster and reduces the chances of bike collision which REALLY snarls traffic....they still cling to "it's not fair". Ohioans are stupid, and narcissistic...by and large...but many people the nation over are. Californians only have a slight leg up on them in that they're slightly conditioned to the practice. Hell, 90% of the people I know can't handle a round-a-bout.

  24. Your best bet in Ohio is to stay the hell away from cars. They have bad habits like turning from the wrong lane without turn signals, blowing through stop lights and stop signs, turning dead in front of you across your path, etc. Especially rush hours, worst on Monday mornings and Friday evenings. And yes, tons of cars weaving and not staying in lanes. Lane splitting will get you pinched a few times. Lane splitting (and lots of other stuff) will often get you an enraged tail-gating cager behind you.

  25. Wouldn't recommend it! I have thought about it many times, but have never decided to take the risk of some cage idiot throwing open a door, cigarette out the window, or steering closer. There are a lot of Richards here and I just cant trust them to not do something stupid during such a vulnerable maneuver... just me tho!
