  1. Let's not forget about some folks who, through circumstances out of their control, have to deal with taking care of family members' welfare...and now have 5 phucking mortgages they are trying to cover by working their asses off by working 60+ hours/week. So the household income may look really great, but the $$ going out is pretty damn painful. The Credit card balances could be paid off by what is in liquid funds, but having an awesome credit score make the interest negligible. My wife will get 0% on transfers and shift balances around, and pay nada in interest while the liquid funds gain interest. Everyone has a different set of priorities, so everyone's finances will be different.

  2. Last July I was diagnosed with type 2. I was 34, 6'3", and 170lbs. It was bit of a shock. My A1C was 12.1, well within the suicidal range, and my fasting level was in the mid 300s. Obviously I'd had it for a while and never knew it. After nearly a year on metformin and cutting almost all refined sugar, my A1C is down to 5.1. The only time of day I haven't been able to get my numbers into non-diabetic range is my morning fasting. It's consistently 115-150. Driving me crazy. Anyways, when I was first diagnosed it was difficult, mentally and physically. I had wished there was someone I could talk to about it, someone in the same boat. Someone to bounce ideas and questions off. I figured most of you are like family at this point, and if anyone was in the same situation I was a year ago I'd want to help. So, if you're recently diagnosed, have had it for years, whatever, let's chat. We can chat here publicly in this thread, via PMs, whatever. That said, I'll get the conversation started. Glucometers suck. Anyone using the Bluetooth one from iHealth? I want to sync with my phone. Right now I test and enter the results manually. I forget all the time. Today I entered numbers since October.

  3. My biggest problem isn't really what I ate but when. For as long as I can remember I ate one meal a day, dinner. And I'd eat a lot for one meal. That basically fucked my entire system apparently. The doctor is probably going to take me off Metformin if my next A1C is the same or lower. Just by forcing myself to eat more regularly (and cut out sugar almost entirely, although I sneak a fun size candy bar here and there) I'm able to control the numbers. I've gone a week without taking Metformin (forgot it when I went out of town) and my numbers didn't change. There is no going back, but controlling it with diet is a hell of a lot better than drugs and possibly insulin. Salad sucks. Not drinking beer sucks (tried, fucks me up way too much now). I never want to see a carrot again. Etc... I eat more food now than I ever did, but it's spaced out throughout the day instead of at one sitting. If I were you (and anyone else in the same shoes), I'd go on a diabetic diet. It's basically the same as any other diet. Measure your servings, don't over eat, eat regularly (breakfast, snack, lunch, snack, dinner, snack). It's amazing when you start looking at labels how much sugar our foods have. You pretty much have to go fresh food to avoid it, which really isn't all that bad if you think about it. The food tastes way better, and you know it's healthier. I was told that had I started eating healthier earlier I probably wouldn't have gotten diagnosed until much later in life. I don't think you can stop it, but I definitely think you can delay it by just eating better. Of course I'm not a doctor, so ya know... Take whatever I say with a grain of salt.

  4. I have a firm rule that we only have 1. I put anything I can on it to rack up the points because 99% of the time I am paying it off in full. Had the same card for about 10 years now and with all the points I've racked up I've probably gotten at least $5,000 in gift cards and cash back

  5. I haven't owned a credit card in 15 years. Doubt I'll ever have another one. I think a good target is to keep 6-12 months of total living expenses in liquid cash.

  13. I put everything on my cc and pay it off every month. My wife does the same and since she runs A LOT of purchases through her cc for her business she rakes in the points. We've taken vacations on points redemption alone. i wasn't always so good though. In my younger days I carried a lot of balances and almost dug myself a big hole. Anyone who says you should carry some balances to help your credit score is wrong. I have no cc balances, just mortgages (we own a few properties) and car leases. When I just leased my new car my credit score came back at 857.

  16. I just got some Shinko 705's but thats the problem. The rims were put back on the bike backwards causing a lot of damage that is being repaired as we speak. If its done I'm definitely a go, they are waiting on some parts that are on back order.

  20. No doubt, and I never rip on people that are doing the best they can with the cards they were dealt. And I don't mind paying welfare or unemployment or health insurance for them. But they are the minority. The dumbasses are in the majority.

  21. So I added octane booster to the current tank and the problem instantly went away. Ran that to empty and filled it with 93. Was not able to get it to ping, and I probably went from 70 to 90 in 5th WOT 20 times trying. Then hit 6th at 65, way too low an rpm for that gear/speed and usually a guaranteed way to get ping if it is on the edge of too lean. No problems at all. Runs like a raped ape, I am one happy mo fo. So, it was bad gas. Or some dumbass grabbed the wrong pump handle when he filled it up. I suspect the latter.

  22. These are fairly inexpensive at HF http://www.harborfreight.com/automotive-motorcycle/tow-straps/3-ton-15-ft-tow-strap-36608.html I'm sure you could daisy chain them all together and the Big Kawi will have plenty of power to tow them all at once.

  25. I do not want to be the vendor for the OR stickers, but I can produce some now and then if needed. I can't produce them in significant enough numbers to make it viable for me to do as a regular vendor at the prices that previous vendors did (probably one of the reasons they keep falling on the wayside.) I made some for myself and can do some various colors other than the standard red/gray/white ones. Ray A Sign for the Times, Inc. S. Euclid, Ohio

  26. Tough to tabulate the meaning of poll responses from those of us who don't fit the standard guidelines. I'm retired, so no steady income. I live on the quarterly dividends from my stock holdings, which gives me enough money to live on comfortably and do what I want...short of the dream of the yacht on the Riviera. With no vehicle or personal loans outstanding and a paid-off mortgage, expenses are pretty minimal. I managed to save for a nice retirement even though I never earned more than $60K a year, mostly because I've always lived pretty basic and started investing in the market in my 20s: never had cable or sat TV (still don't!), always drove used cars, paid cash for affordable toys, and didn't spend a lot on the latest/greatest tech stuff. To this day, I use a burner phone that costs me $100/year. What's odd is that I THOUGHT I WANTED all that stuff at the time, but looking back over the last 40 years, I can tell you that I don't miss not having it. I'm in the process over the next 5 years of divesting some of my stock and diversifying into safer and less volatile investments, aiming for about a 60:40 to 50:50 blend; I typically do one large sale of stock late in the year, keeping my MAGI under the bracket bump to 20% for LTCG income. So at any one time over a year, I may have as much as $150K-200K in my savings (prior to redirecting the funds from the sale) to right now, where I'm down to under $4000 total cash and awaiting the next payment of quarterly dividends from my brokerage account. Not collecting SS yet and prolly won't until I reach 70. But I did just buy a sweet '12 KTM 990 SMT that brings out the hoonigan in me--proof that 65 year old guys DO have fun!!!
