  1. Update: @whaler was able to get to the hospital this morning and meet with John's family and John. They put John into a hypothermia state over the last 24 hours trying to preserve any brain functioning that he may still have. Last night as of 9pm they stopped the hypothermia. This morning at 9am they are starting to warm him back up over the next 24 hours. They had him sedated and pulled him out of sedation this morning. He was responsive to the touch on his body. He's still on a ventilator but the prognosis is much more positive today than yesterday. Heart functionality is still at 100% which is fantastic. Brain functionality still needs to be assessed (scheduled for Wednesday as long as things continue the way they are). Brian believes he is aware of his surroundings. He seems to respond to sounds, touches, and other things in the room. John definitely has a ton of support there with him from his family and friends, which we knew because of the type of guy he is. John is definitely a fighter. KEEP FIGHTING JOHN! WE ARE ALL HERE SUPPORTING YOU!

  3. He was tossing around when I was there with him. I was happy to hear that his condition has improved although he is not out of the woods yet.

  4. So I just left. I will be honest, I went to see him to say goodbye. But I didn't, there is hope. He most certainly responds quickly and strongly to stimulus even though he is still sedated. He moves on his own like someone tossing in their sleep. Then he let out this giant sigh. To me thats a physical response to an emotional thought. To me that is huge. He has a lung infection, so he is on antibiotics and the ventilator until they clear his lungs. And while that is going on they have to keep him sedated. They hope tomorrow that they will remove the ventilator.

  8. U are roughly around 180 right? If you are around 180lb ur lucky, u good on springs for Daytona Ohlins start with set up on manual itself if your weight is close to 180, u be good for starters IIRC Daytona lucky pound number is 180 unlike jappy which is much lower

  9. A lot of what's good about the VFR12 just doesn't stand out on a spec sheet. Like Paul mentioned, the wind protection and heat management are excellent. The build quality is off the charts, better than any other bike I've ridden. The chassis is exceptional. Traction is extremely good and the handling is confidence inspiring. What Honda did wrong...the MSRP. There's a 1st & 2nd gear throttle nanny that cuts 30-40hp, but it's easily/cheaply defeated by the after market. The stock suspension setting suck, unless you weigh 350 lbs (pretty good for 2 up though). Honda's suspension setting are usually quite good, but they missed badly in this case...I actually did a write up on VFRWorld a few years ago http://vfrworld.com/threads/suspension-settings-dialing-it-in.46762/ Looks...ehhh, I've never bought a bike based on looks, but you'd be surprised how many people stop me at gas stations to talk about it. Best thing I can say about it, is I've had it for years and I have no intention of selling...and I used to change bikes more often than @NinjaDoc

  10. Back to the original post. I recommend a 1000cc rr for a starter bike for the OP only. This thread is driving me knuts . In the process of selling my CBR in this guy's price range. He could buy it & in a short time we'd never have to hear from him again. Nah. Couldn't do it.

  11. If there's a fall Gap trip, find someone that's trailering down and give them money. That'd get you almost all the way there.

  12. It's times like this that I hate that I live 2 hours from home. We are all rooting for you John. It's just like the 50 mile bicycle rides that you do. It might suck now, but you'll get through it. One thing for sure, tomorrow marks 5 years from when my twin passed. You definitely can't let that happen!

  13. They could just keep adding cc's to get more power. 1299 isn't enough. LOL

  15. The bike did not sell because it may be one of the most hideous looking bikes ever produced. Yes it performs well, fit and finished is A+, but you have to live with that face.

  16. Ride it down, will be the best and most memorable 2 days you will have on 2 wheels. Get the helmet it's worth it. shipping bike has lot of positives and negatives, for such short trip to a great destination , the benefits and fun of riding always outweighs. Trust the collective knowledge here, this is rare times they are not sarcastic. Go for it, ride it. Have your friend or family follow you in a car/uhaul to have the extra safety net. 18. I'll trailer it for $200, plus gas and tolls. Documentation of expenses provided. My car gets around 30 mpg towing.

  19. Ride it. I did 1500miles with the Fall Gap crew on my DRZ400SM, @Scorpion-Ninja did the trip 2-up on his Ninja 650. Every bike is boring on the freeway, as is driving. Best choice would be to plan a 2 day trip on back roads. There are some great roads between OH and Charlotte. If you have to blast the freeway, just take your time. Take plenty of rest breaks to stretch your legs and keep alert. If you get drowsy, take a nap. And skip the heavy meals while on route.

  22. Had a good time this past weekend. Had a few guys stop over to chat from here which is always nice. Ran one day and got a 2nd and a 6th or something like that. It seems like its mostly how quickly you can get yourself in a decent position with that many bikes per class and how many laps you have to move up front. First race I started mid-rear of the pack and was in 2nd place in a lap and a half. Ended up leading most of the race but ended up with 2nd and got into the 38s. 2nd race I had a worse starting spot, back row if I remember correctly and never could make it past 6th place I dont think. Was nice to see you again Andrew. Last time I saw you I was crashing at your race school haha

  25. I know my brother-in-law would be willing to sell my old 2000 VFR 800 interceptor (yellow) for way under $3000! Only got like 80k miles on her! Seriously, it would probably be a really good bike for someone...Racetech forks and springs, and Penske shock setup for a 200+ pound rider. Givi 21 Liter panniers included. Here she was back in the day...

  28. Listen to Phil. Changing a pin lock is a bit of a PITA. And yoy have to be real careful how you store them...they scratch like a mofo. Pin locks are great for fog. There are not for sun glare imnsho. Get a helmet with a flip down sun visor. They all have them now.

  32. WOW. Glad you're safe. That was sure a pucker moment. New Q3 Plus would be my suggestion on street tires. Pretty darn sticky and new "plus" designation is reputed to have longer wear/mileage. Prefer the Supercorsa's but they are shit in the rain.
