  1. I needed to scrub in my new front tire. I rode down to Hocking Hills. I had forgot how curvy 374 is coming off of 33! 250 miles total. The FJR now has over 75,000 miles. Going to give her a bath.

  2. I'm bringing a camelback. By the end of the trip last year I was dealing with severe dehydration, which had nothing to do with drinking liquor every night

  3. I've done it both ways a couple times if you stick to no more than a 10 over pace you can have a good time and not draw attention. There's rumors they did some tar and chipping in sections of Virginia. Check out the Blue Ridge Parkway website for road conditions and I believe there's a map that tells you the gas exits. The I-77 area is about the halfway mark. Plenty of hotels in the area I always stay at the Knights Inn in Galax because it's really inexpensive. Not top-of-the-line accommodations but clean and inexpensive.

  4. It's a beautiful ride, but it gets repetitive after a bit. Same old scenery. Avoid rush hour on it, traffic can suck. Should be clear of tourists bit expect pockets of slow movers. I would not haul ass on it. Tickets on it are super expensive. Plan your gas stops, you have to hop off to do it. A GPS with gas stations is helpful so you can find them.

  6. Also, Matt and I have Senas. We use them to sing to each other, yell obscenities, and coordinate fuel stops.

  7. Haven't been on here for years, but last week I picked up a new toy. A 2015 FJR1300A. This has been my dream bike for about 4 years now. I've had a 2002 Honda 919 since 2012 which I still have, and had a 1996 Bandit 600 from 2008 to 2011 which was my first bike. I found a pretty good deal on this ($1k under bluebook) from a dealer and only had 5600 miles. I absolutely love the color too and 2015 is the only year for it. This is a bike I'll probably hang on to the rest of my life, I'd likely only get rid of it to trade in on a newer model year of it, or something drastic. Only having had a Bandit 600 and Honda 919, this thing is infinitely better on the freeway. So much more stable, not fighting the wind, tons of power, etc. I can't wait to ride it more! And yes, I'll be removing and replacing the tank protector, not quite my style.

  8. My all-black leathers with minimal ventilation? ok. Will pick up some new under layers today at IP while picking up some oil for the Triumph I guess. Can't be smelling like a barnyard all week wearing the same schwetty underarmour compression gear.

  9. Going to be a warm one folks, pack or wear your mesh gear. Might plan more ride on the BRP and GSMNP to stay in the cooler air.

  10. If your concerned at all just do a basic voltage check. Should be around 12 to 13 sitting. Shouldn't drop much below 10V while cranking and should be 13 or above while running and charging.

  12. Buying a bike is just like buying a car for the most part, EXCEPT that you most likely won't be able to test ride the bike before purchase. Most dealers don't allow test rides. Private party sellers won't allow it unless they have purchase cash in hand. Make sure you have enough money set aside for decent gear - helmet, jacket, gloves, boots at minimum; riding jeans or pants too if possible. Don't be afraid to ask questions - there's a lot to learn but there's a lot of good info here. Many of the members are quite knowledgeable, heck some of them even know about riding motorcycles, but they can be savages at times (mostly when the weather sucks and can't ride). Good luck in your search and welcome!
