  1. I bought new Alpinestars Wake Air jacket and pants from @RidersDiscount. That should do well for the summer and I feel confident the TechAir vest will adequately provide an extra layer of safety in case of a get off or random idiot behind the wheel. I like the vest a lot. Its unobtrusive and simple to use. Plus, I dont have to use it with any specific jackets. It's a stand alone product that can be used inside any jacket that has room for the airbag to deploy. It's no more expensive than a quality helmet. Retail is $700 and after my $26k helicopter ride in April...that's a bargain. Besides, I just up'd the insurance rider that covers my safety gear to replace it if the unfortunate occurs. Everyone riding on the street should consider it. It's a cool piece of kit.

  2. Got back yesterday from an 11 day motorcycle trip to Canyon Lake TX. Lots of rain in Texas. Made it to Luckenbach too. Retirement life is good 👍

  3. Sorry to hear about your family troubles. Every case of senility-related dementia manifests itself differently, so my personal experience may not apply... My Dad suffered from senile dementia--very different from Alzheimer's disease--the last 3-4 years. Strangely, although he was "diagnosed" by his doctor as having Alzheimer's, he never descended into the profound dementia characterized by anger, confusion, inability to recognize friends and family. It was a progressive decline in mental acuity but certainly not in a linear fashion. He had some very good days and some bad days that became increasingly difficult to adjust to. However, the last few years with Dad were some of the most fun times we had since I grew up and started out on my own. I was pretty independent as a kid, dropping out of college at 19 (much to Dad's chagrin), moving out of the house, getting married, having a family and a mortgage by the time I was 21. To say he wasn't exactly thrilled with my life choices is an understatement. We weren't estranged by any means but we each went our own way for 45 years, until his diagnosis. In the last few years, I made extra efforts to spend time with Dad at least once a week, stopping by his house (he was still living at home with his wife) and taking him out to lunch to have a burger and a beer...or two. What was most noticeable was that as his senility progressed into his 90s, he left behind much of the "shell" that we all surround ourselves with and show to the people we associate with. There was no pretention left, no judgement made, no approbation--just the basic person he was inside, which was a kindly old man who loved his social interactions and his family. He was an absolute joy to be around and interact with. Now to be fair, having a conversation could be maddening: much like you describe with your mom, he would ask the same questions over and over. At first, the question was repeated every 5-10 minutes, but as his memory progressively failed, he would repeat himself every 60-90 seconds. It was almost as if he was trying to imprint the question and answer--which he must have felt to be important--in his brain. The information sometimes finally stuck, sometimes not, but he was always pleased to be sharing conversation with me. Bottom line, you and your mom are on a journey that will undoubtedly lead to her final days. You'll see her at her best and her worst, but cherish the time you have with her. As she fades into her dementia, you'll likely learn something from her about the impermanence and fragility of life...which is a very valuable insight into how you should live the rest or your life! Sending you my best wishes and hoping you find that large well of patience to deal with her disease.

  4. Rode it 360+ miles at a sane-ish pace. Took 76W to Lodi and picked up 83/78/377/550/26/260/800 and 77N to the house. Left the house with a full tank and didn't see my low fuel warning until Barnesville. I did stop in McConnelsville for water and a Snickers. Saw 92 degrees on the dash at one point. Was a warm one but glad to be back in the game. Time for Skyway and ice cream.

  5. Wife and I did a nice Sunday ride: Hocking-Chesterhill and return. Had Brunch at the 555Diner. It's great to see a small restaurant was able to survived the Wuhan/Fauci restrictions and stay open. Great curvy roads, very light traffic and made it home just as it was getting hot. Great food and service. Love that place. https://www.triplenickeldiner.com/

  6. Amanda called me while I was stopped in B-ville for fuel. A crash happened in the front of the house today involving a motorcycle and a car. She knew it wasn't me but it was enough to trigger a bit of PTSD emotion. She called so she could hear my voice and know I was ok. I am glad I was able to answer the phone. She is a little more emotional than I am at this point, but I worked through some mental hurdles myself. I feel better having put in a solid day of riding. I have been putting off getting on the bike for fear of no longer being able to enjoy myself behind the bars. I put that to bed today and know I can fully put April's crash behind me. I don't know how much time Amanda will need before she is ready to climb back onto the bike, but she's determined to do just that. One day at a time is how we've been getting along up to this point. It will be at least the rest of this season and maybe next before she gives me the green light to start looking for another bike. I'm in no hurry. She can take all the time she needs.

  10. I went with the SH847 and got it from Jack at roadstercycle. So there are still 2 quick connectors in my charging harness, the ones that are directly off the stator that plug into the harness. All of the quick connectors coming off the r/r are now soldered. Will finish the install after work today. I'm now debating soldering the ones right off the stator, but there are 2 plugs off the stator. A 3 wire plug (I know where that goes) and another smaller one. Idk what that one is. So I was hesitant to cut those quick connectors off.

  11. That is a common issue in the VFR world, heck Honda world too. The charging system sucks, so the typical fix is to ditch the OEM R/R and goto a Shindengen SH847 or FH020 from Roadstercycle http://roadstercycle.com/ Then wire it direct to the battery. Also ... eliminate the connector R/R to the stator and solder the wires together. Cheers

  12. Even some track guys use it instead of the tech air race. Because the a*'s are having production issues with getting enough tech air race's produced due to microchips (or so I've heard). STG offered to do a swap with my tech air race (ordered in December) to the tech air 5. But considering I spent $1600+ on a suit I want my LED's to work and have my 2 deployments.

  13. I'm still in the act of aquiring gear, an airbag vest is on the list here in the near future. I bought a mesh jacket last year and it's a god send when paired with super wicking athletic fabric. What the research I've seen is that good mesh has the same abrasion resistance as other textiles. Though I'm always trying to learn more about gear. I put a wind screen on my MT 09 in the off season to provide a little protection on the freeway, but I think the only thing it is really doing is directing more bugs to get splattered on my visor, lol.

  17. Consider taking it on an all day shakedown run before you take off, just to make sure there are no gremlins from the repairs.

  18. The day I mounted them it was like 85 degrees here. I tossed the tires on my asphalt drive for an hour before mounting them. It really helped to make them more pliable. Still had to work to mount them. I didn’t need a second set of hands like I often have in the past.
