  1. *sudden image of NOT alive and back for parts* Actually, I've visited a few shops with checkbook in back pocket and enough cash and desire. For the most part, salesmen won't even budge from goofing off. What's wrong with that picture.
  2. News says it's Green Lantern. But not the current Green Lantern. It's the original Green Lantern. What's that mean? Pretty much nothing.

    Yeah right!!!!

I hesitate to say how fast I was going in a very hard rain with two other bikes. But I was surprised that handling was quite good. It was strictly vertical straight line motion on a country road, with no cross wind and no turns. But very hard rain accumulating on the roadway. I will consider that a somewhat safe upper limit, because I'm pretty sure I'll never go faster than that in the rain. And perhaps the only reason I did it that day, is because the two bikes in front of me didn't fall down either. On the other hand, I've had friends say their bikes felt really odd and unstable in the rain on the freeway at 65mph, and slowed down. And no, I don't think 190+mph is possible in the rain. Forward vision, if nothing else, would be nearly non-existent.
  5. You're correct, it doesn't say that now. I'm of a mind that it did before. Who knows. Darn ninja edits...
  6. The one on Karl road is reported as a girl in a Kia turning in front of the bike, both trying to turn into the same driveway. http://www2.nbc4i.com/news/2012/may/29/motorcyclist-killed-karl-road-crash-identified-ar-1052971/

    Web browsers

I like FireFox (12.0) with it's addons. Running Adblock Plus, DoNotTrackPlus, Flashblock, Ghostery, FaceBook Blocker, and WOT (Web of Trust). Also trying NoScript on one computer, but it sort of cripples browsing. But I always use the Adblock Plus, Flashblock and WOT. I generally see no ads, they don't load.
  8. Yes, rabies in New York City. As well as bubonic plague. Rabies also big in the South West. Back in the late 1970s, a new type of rabies spread quickly from Canada to Florida. It's vector was raccoons. Which is why raccoons are still considered dangerous disease carriers today. Not dogs, not bats... raccoons spread rabies.
  9. Disturbing... from National Geographic Daily News back in 2010 "Zombie Virus" Possible via Rabies-Flu Hybrid? New, Fast-Evolving Rabies Virus Found -- And Spreading
  10. It does seem like there has been a recent increase in odd (but ordinary) people walking around naked in public. Either confused, incoherent, belligerent, or violent.
  11. Motorized bicycle. Runs great. Cuts through traffic with ease... https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-8uTGEMNx1Wg/T8JSE6qGFoI/AAAAAAAASvE/6m5QRsoEaJw/w497-h373/2bdc5f_3434388.jpg
  12. Sounds like the later model 250 with the wider rear rim width. The third link down lists some tires that people have tried and the results. Results can vary... http://faq.ninja250.org/wiki/Tires http://faq.ninja250.org/wiki/About_wider_tires http://faq.ninja250.org/wiki/J_Tires edit: and don't mix radial with bias ply on the front and rear.
  13. I read through that article. It was complicated. Both home owners were psychiatrists that had stalking restraint orders against patients. One of which was a female that followed them by moving into the same neighborhood. The confrontation took place in a dark bedroom, that the intruder was stumbling into. I'm really not surprised at the outcome. But I think they should remember to lock their door, it was open. edit: And learn to turn the lights on. Motion detection lights, big flashlight, etc.
  14. I had a drunk guy walk in one night. Or try to, his house keys weren't working too well. I put my arm around him, I took his keys, I put him in his car, and I took him home. Which was fun, since he was drunk and couldn't find his place. It didn't take me long to figure out where he lived, a block away. And I gave the keys to somebody sober. You do what you gotta do. Funny that part about always remembering where you live. One of my friends would always snap out of it sitting in the driveway of the place he used to live before he moved. Then he would go home. edit: btw, most states have a provision that the intruder must be violent. Not just drunk and belligerent.
  15. Old Brit bikes with right hand shifter are fun also. I can do it, shift ok on the wrong side. But I hit the rear brake on the left at the same time, every time...
  16. This is also the anniversary of the day John F Kennedy gave his speech before congress, asking to send a man to the Moon. And we did just that...
  17. I think traffic enforcement has a pair of F-16s up over the East side of Columbus today. Heh.
  18. Sure, but without the technology involved, we'd be stuck with steam-driven coal-fired antiques. Probably with wheels/tires made of wood. Sort of steam punk cool, but I want more. NASA budget is less than 1%. More is spent on food stamps. No actual trillions anywhere in any of the budgets, even though the government likes to spend that much. So think of it this way. If we were given the NASA budget back to the citizens, it would probably be like getting food stamps. I don't get any, so I wouldn't get anything back. It would all go somewhere else. And even if we got something back, it would be worth.... food stamps...
  19. SpaceX is planning transport to the ISS at one third of the current cost of the Russian delivery system. That has everyone's attention.
  20. This is the beginning of a new future. The SpaceX Dragon cargo module is docking with the international space station right now. This puts American commercial space efforts ahead of almost all other countries, and in some ways currently ahead of NASA which has nothing. Other countries have docked with the space station, but it was a one way trip delivering supplies, and taking nothing back. SpaceX will parachute back to the ground, bringing back equipment, experiments, etc. The goal is to haul astronauts and cosmonauts up and back. And this is just the beginning of private enterprise in space...
