And we think our sportbikes have acceleration!
ReconRat replied to Wadepenn's topic in Pics and Vids
I've been wondering about 0-60 times for bikes. 0 to 60 time for a Honda 919 is listed as incredibly fast, compared to other bikes. -
I should jump in here with something... but I got nothing. No clue.

Just Columbus as far as I know, but I don't know. A federal grant has added patrols looking specifically for speeding in construction zones. Apparently Thursday was the first day, and tickets were given for 20 over (65mph in 45mph zone). Expect increased patrols in these areas for an undetermined length of time. Most likely all Summer. What could this problem be on a potentially amazing Craigslist steal?
ReconRat replied to Ryan_c_F's topic in Daily Ride
I'm going with number one guess is fuel cap not venting (or fuel tank not venting). Causing a vacuum on the tank fairly quick after starting. Resulting in fuel shutting off and engine quitting every time. Simple to check, ride with fuel cap open, but do not turn into a flaming torch while trying. (Also might be obvious when opening the fuel cap right after it stalls.) edit: yeah, that too tight valve lash thing. Too tight on the exhaust valves will result in leaking when hot, and a clear burrr burrr sound as you try to get it back home. -
Time for another little update: Russians launch an mobile ICBM from a military base in South East Russia as a test. It was visible in Turkey, Lebanon, Israel, etc (and Iran, but Iran doesn't say one word about it). Moving away to the East, to land in a testing area about 1000km away. What isn't mentioned, is the the military base is one of the closest to Tehran, across the Caspian Sea. Which means Tehran is within range of that launch. Point-Iran, Counter Point-Russia. Thinking it makes a little statement there. Don't mess with Russia. Syria threatens/intends to move all their mobile Scud missile launchers across the border into Lebanon where "they will be safer". Israel intends to turn them into smoking holes in the ground if they do. Somehow Syrian rebels got over to the Syrian army and air force bases near the Israeli/Syria border and destroyed the aircraft and helicopters (and got away). Using mortars, RPGs, and maybe some small missiles. Serious business, not much news. Politically, the UN decides to let Russia & etc lead on dealings with Syria. Part of it is the deployment of several thousand Russian special troops to secure Syrian locations storing WMDs, mostly chemical gases and nerve agents. Reason is to prevent such from getting into the hands of actual terrorists. Since it's pretty much known that Al Qaeda and similar are on both sides of every conflict everywhere over there. Sort of hired guns. And most are already known to want and be planning getting those WMDs. Russia is ok with Assad leaving, but everyone has no clue how and when. Nobody wants to actually go and fight, except France, which came up with a plan to just bomb the Hell out of Assad. This would probably actually work, since Assad and crew are all holed up in a small obvious fortress. edit: oops, situation completely flipped. Russia declines completely. Preferring to do nothing at all. Iran links nuclear talks to Syria, so both become stalemated. USA admits that we have been at war in Pakistan near the Afghanistan border (North Waziristan and etc) for a long time. Almost entirely drones. Drone War, and it works. Pakistan extorts cost of running supplies into Afghanistan from Pakistan. So supplies switch to next best location, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan and Kyrgyzstan (all the other borders). Pakistan decides to reverse decision. In part, because NATO forces invite India to participate and take an interest in the Afghanistan/Pakistan border. That caught somebody's attention. Situation made more complicated, by military deals between Israel and Azerbaijan. As well as high dollar trade deals on gas and oil. Some of the Azerbaijan oil/gas fields border those in Iran. Israel locks down a large portion of Azerbaijan oil/gas as exports. Logical after Egypt shuts their supply off after their revolution. Actions also include Russia stepping in and buying major stakes in recent Israeli gas and oil exploration (Azerbaijan got a portion also). Yes, complicated. edit: Cyprus oil/gas discoveries are part also, partnered with Israel. And is one of the main reasons why Turkey is "all mad bro" and now messing with Israel, when previously a partner.

With T-shirt monies, of course...

I thought I'd known and seen it, I'll look later. I wouldn't ever change lanes near an intersection, seems like that is a huge percentage of where accidents come from. I watch other people collide or nearly, all the time, doing that. I don't want to be one of them. edit: I don't see any "intersection" rules other than turns and yielding. It's one of those "judgement of officer and court" rules. It doesn't specify where. Basically says stay in your lane unless it's safe to do otherwise. Of course, if something happens, it might not have been safe... ODRC 4511.33 Driving in marked lanes. Columbus municode 2131.08 Driving within lanes or continuous lines of traffic.

Rider Down in Westerville - Bridge over Hoover Res.
ReconRat replied to Jcarlson's topic in Daily Ride
West bound can pass when past the bridge, till approaching the parking lot driveway and the road turns South. East bound cannot from the start of the bridge (and causeway) till somewhere up the hill. You can see it on Google maps. edit: The Delaware County line runs around Hoover Res. The water belongs to Franklin. I didn't know that. -
Most of the need for different oil weight for different parts of the year went away when multi-weight was invented. When single weight was used, it was a necessity. The exception is if you move to someplace like Alaska or sub-tropic Sahara.

I'd rather have a "mushroom" style plug kit like this: http://www.cycleworld.com/2011/03/07/stop-go-pocket-tire-plugger-plus-co2-inflation-product-evaluation/ disregard the retail price, they can be found for $25-28 bucks. edit: I've read that some types of the CO2 adapters are hard to use, much of the air is lost trying to seat the cartridge.

There are blocker add-ons for firefox that remove the "like" buttons, and block the snoopy scripts. They probably aren't perfect, but they do a good job. They also can cripple FaceBook so bad you can hardly use it. Apparently there are many scripts running right in FaceBook that you can't even see working on your stuff while you're there...

hrmmm.... I've got TrustGo antivirus loaded, and it has a tracer. I turned it on and it located my phone to within a few feet (by logging in on another computer). Not bad...

I have very little room for a tool kit under the seat. Just a small one. Hondas are sold without the tools in the tool kit now days. My 2002 had a full kit, and the 2007 had almost nothing. The missing tools are on the parts list, and can be purchased. This is reasonable for the tiny rear axle wrench that is missing. Otherwise, a variety of tools from other sources can be added. And yes, a harbor freight tool wrap or similar. Things you have to add: Fuses, spare headlight bulb, zip ties, a little duck tape. Tire kit to patch tire if really worried about it. Oh, and mini channel locks and mini vise grips are nice. You don't need a hammer, just find a big rock.

I use Prey on laptops, I didn't know it was available for Droid. Done. Just added it to the existing account.

This^^... it's really expensive trying to rescue ignorant people that expect someone else to provide everything for them. Granted, some need and deserve such, but it would work a lot better if the rest had some dam common sense. I still like the web belt with essentials and a pack for everything else. A pair of two quart canteens. I can run much faster if I drop the pack. I hear it works well with bears, they pretty much will stop and check out the back pack. edit: and zombies...

Rider Down in Westerville - Bridge over Hoover Res.

Could have run out of fuel at that terrible moment. Ever have an ignition cut out? Your bike/car will look like it's going backwards while you hunt for a gear that works. The correct response to such an event while passing is to nail the brakes hard and sort it out. -

She will say when. She will lie down and refuse to get up or eat. From experience, it could be now, 3 months, maybe 6 months. And possibly longer, it's the will to live that keeps them here. One of my dogs was very old, blind and deaf for quite a while. She lived over two years after what appeared to be cancer, before she gave up. Be careful she doesn't walk off into traffic, or to be alone.

So how does that work? Does it show 1 through 36 comments and some are blank? Or does it just skip some? No clue...
