Here's a try for Wednesday. No chance of rain. Light fog in some early morning outlying areas. Temperatures from 36F to 60F. No apparent temperature differences. One third cloud cover with light winds and gusts. I'm riding. Possible 1/4 inch of rain forecasted moving towards us from the West, arriving sometime Thursday afternoon. Followed by another possible 1/4 inch of rain Thursday night.

As compared to double and triple shielding on everything in aircraft (or fiber optics). Which is actually meant to prevent interference from lightning strikes while in the air. Also works to prevent most everything else.

8 to 10 on freeway? 12 to 14 on that route? 14 to 16 on a motorcycle with stops? I'm looking again... 8 on freeway straight there. 11 off freeway straight there. Ehhh, 11 off freeway through WV also. So maybe 11 plus any stops then (and Easter traffic). But that's moving right along. Honestly, going anywhere, if averaging 50-60mph with stops for fuel and such, that's doing pretty good. And that would be minimum stops, just fuel and a quick snack. 600 miles would be 10-12 hours minimum. I reckon that's at posted limits though. But still, I can drive 1200 miles to Florida at night, and it's 22 to 24 hours no matter how fast traffic is moving. Edit: Your ride is the same as going from Xenia to Atlanta, GA... for distance...

There was an article in USA Today describing how some phones and phone activities effect automotive computers. The one I remember is when Blackberrys ring an incoming call, the "fly by wire" steering on Corollas will cause the steering wheel to shake. Or the airbags going off. Darn fool stars going nova and exploding their fool cosmic rays all over the Universe... Blaming cosmic rays is like trying to win the lotto. Sure, but not today. Automotive is shielded as well as commercial or military aviation or space craft? *cough*bullshit*cough*. Not even close...Even the European automotive standards for shielding are about twice what is in effect for USA sold vehicles. Cosmic rays will flip a data bit from one to zero or vice versa. Or make a little brief flash on a tv screen. Not change an entire data stream to a different value. And even if it changed a value in the computer itself, the programming should redundantly deal with it. I'd rather worry about a bad spark plug driving by, and whacking my computer with a "spark gap" EMP pulse. That would make for a bad day.

That first pic looks like impact damage, or something. The one that is a "Y" crack. Not normal looking to me. Cracks in the tread grooves, I recently heard those are from running too low of pressures. But I haven't confirmed that yet. So just guessing right now. (But it was on a car tire manufacturer's website.) In general, ozone in the air causes cracking in tires. Some crack more, some crack less. Aircraft tires are allowed to crack until the cord shows in the cracks. No thanks, I won't be doing that on a bike. I replaced mine when it cracked in the tread. It's a front tire, I like them new.

I dunno, it seems like everyone is stopping all the time. I don't think it's time to stop till the tank is really empty.

Looks like 15-16 hours. I'd slab it to Wheeling to save time, take a break, and then drop off onto PA 30/11 for fun, and take freeway around Harrisburg to skip traffic. Save the ride through WV for on the way back maybe. That's a two day ride for most people. But ok if you're rested up after holidays, I think... Dunno, it's a gutsy ride either way. Hope the weather holds out for you.

I like my Converse swat/emt/duty boots. Last longer than the Bates. Heavy padded/protected but a bit hot on a hot day. Regular canvas and leather side-zip combat boots for hot days. Although the $40 Chinese pair I got feel like tennis shoes and wore out quickly. Comfy, but probably next to nothing for protection.

There are no penalties for screwing up as a Congressman or Congresswoman. Perhaps it's time there were a few regulations created by the people to address that. Until then, please continue to vote them all out of office except for the few that deserve to stay.

yeaaahh, about that weather. Dang it was cold this morning. I had it right, but it was 28F apparent temperature, high humidity, misty damp, wet roads, slippery, windy, hard to see through visor, and bone chilling cold. And freakin' dark outside. The extra moisture in the air overwhelmed even my nice normally-warm gloves, and made them cold. Argh. But it wasn't raining...

Install an ammeter? Then there are no questions about loads on the alternator.

Actually, disconnect the battery and let it sit for a while, then take a voltage reading. It will be higher, but who knows by how much.

Exactly, the easiest way to bring back a dead battery is to jump it with another battery and wait. You'll have to re-charge both batteries. And I mean not with an engine running, very bad idea. Just one battery to another. The problem, is that if any one of the 6 cells goes down too far, it might reverse it's charge. Then the battery will never have more than 2/3 voltage, basically worthless. Minimum individual cell voltage is considered to be 0.7v per cell(4.2v for the battery), without risking a reversal. You have .19/6=0.032, good luck, I hope it comes back undamaged.

Hard to say. As much fun as it is pushing a bike to start, I'd rather not. I wish I knew how old this one is. Five years is plenty, and I'd replace it for cause. But at least I have another one just like it, that I can go home and borrow...

Total rainfall approx 1 inch. I won't ride tomorrow. Slight chance of rain on Tuesday, 34% chance of .01 inches of rain. Possible light shower early in the morning, before 8am. Subject to change as details emerge. Easy enough to avoid. Check radar for actual locations of approaching rain. I will ride on Tuesday, even if it's raining.

Honestly, the only chance might be to talk with her, and indicate you would like to move, and work something out. Best deal would be to stay there until a new renter is found. I don't have high hopes for that happening quickly. I'm also worried that your lease might have target dates requiring notification, even to leave at the end of the year's lease. Don't miss that if there is one. Or the lease might have other "non-standard" agreements. Some are binding, or are difficult to negotiate out of. Also be aware that you will need to know where to move to on short notice. Some people can do it overnight, others take a lot longer. Life isn't meant to be this difficult, so there has to be an easy way.

shup, I left the key on. I'm still using the same battery. It still works... edit: I only use the battery tender over the Winter, inside the house. Best not to try to hard freeze a battery.
