  1. Take an old chain apart, and get the o-ring seals out of it. Soak a couple of them in WD-40 for....oh, how long do you feel like? A month? Then, check those for breakdown and elasticity against the other ones you took out and kept clean and in a dry place. Do it real scientific, put a couple in kerosene, maybe some in ATF or water as a control. See any difference? I'll go ahead and save you a month (it's been done several times on the web): No difference. WD-40 doesn't do jack shit to an O-ring chain. Use it like KY on a cheap whore. If you wanna keep your sprocket clean and the chain lubed, use Dupont Dry-Lube (available at Lowes for $4 a bottle). Goes on wet, dries clean, doesn't fling, doesn't attract dirt. My front sprocket is clean as hell, after 11,000 miles.
  2. I'd ride with ya, but you use a funny font. J/K, have to go out of town, or I'd be in for it. Perry's fun, can be a rutted up quad fest down there, but still worth riding.
  3. If your job was loss prevention at Walmart, and you got arrested for shoplifting at Meijers on the weekend, how long do you think you'd keep your job? How about if you were a trucker, and racked up a few DUI's? Still employed? So, how is it this guy flagrantly breaks a law he in charge of enforcing daily (that results in crippling fines and jail time for normal people) will likely keep his job? He might be a fucking saint in real life, but I have no love for someone who makes their living tagging speeders and then does shit off duty like this.
  4. That's it, no more $1 in the boot when those fuckers accost me in an intersection looking for charity, I'm not buying a guy a cruise or a 2-liter ghetto suppressor. I'm gonna scream "Dog killer!!!!" and keep right on drivin. Heroes my ass!!
  5. These are what I wear... http://www.rockymountainatv.com/productDetail.do?&navType=type&webTypeId=158&navTitle=Apparel-Protective+Gear&webCatId=4&prodFamilyId=24213 They're padded on the thighs, and hips, and have a padded tailbone protector and crotch portion with chamois on it....SUPER comfy, no seams, not super hot and more protective than bike shorts. They're the shiznit for long rides...and very affordable too.
  6. So did the ride happen? I was east-bound on 16 right before you get to Coshocton around 3:00 and passed a bunch of sport bikes in a cluster going west, gave everyone the wave and thought I spotted a OR sticker. I was on a blue TTR250 in my dirt gear and my buddy was on a KLR heading towards some trails, if so.
  7. Asses are like opinions, they're all different and do amateur porn. Is that how the saying goes? Anywho, point being ask 20 guys who've tried both seats and you'll get 20 different opinions. Both make a good seat, but you gotta put your rump on one for a day's ride to know for sure (unfortunately, at the tune of $300). I tried the Sargent on my Strom and liked it alot, had a Corbin on my DRZ and thought it was awful, but I know many people have had the complete opposite opinion on both saddles.
  8. Yup, a Versys is an EXCELLENT bike for someone who wants comfort and like the name says....versatility. The cruiser is what it is, but it'll never be anything but. The Versys can handle all day long rides, a gravel road, twisties, even a track day.
  9. Sorry for your loss, but don't take it on yourself. Adults make their own choices, and acceept their own risks.
  10. Study after study has shown it's the difference in speed that causes wrecks on the interstate, not the speed of trucks. It's the reason Ohio is one of the very few states left with the 55 for trucks, and 40 some other states get by just fine with trucks doing the same speed.' This is a good move, for safety.
  11. Congrats, I love riding with my wife on pillion....we have a great time. I just take it easier, more deliberate with my movements and don't put her into gnarly situations. One tip to tell all passengers, if they're not used to it is to stay loose and put their head on the same side of the turn. Also, it's a good idea to set your preload/sag for a rider and air up a little on the rear tire. A passenger can really change the handling and braking response of a bike. Good on her for getting geared up too, I'd highly suggest at the very least a good jacket & gloves to go with the lid. If you go down, you WILL have your hands on the pavement, elbows and body too. Some women just will not consider moto-specific pants, but with options like the Cortech DSX jeans (with leather) it's easy to pull off without looking like a spaceman.
  12. Your rational may make sense to you, but your chances of an accident are greater on those short trips....people can hit you, you can hit a gas spill, pot hole, have a mechanical failure, etc....and a 30mph impact with momma asphalt will fuck you up plenty on bare skin. Your choice, your body, but I never give a thought to choosing when to wear my shit....because I know in many ways I don't have a say in it....I don't get to choose when some dumb fuck blows a light or a turn and I go down.
  13. This! I'm much cooler with mesh on than in a cotton t-shirt. The sun hits the jacket, not my skin, the mesh allows as much airflow as...well, it's mesh so better than a t-shirt, with underarmor underneath I wick away sweat and the second I start rolling I feel cool. Good gear is comfortable, it's as simple as that. And, even the best gear out there isn't as expensive as your ER bill will be.
  14. Remember the thread on ADV when someone called this place a bunch of squids? This kind of post doesn't really help the defense. Road rash, if you get a good enough bit of it, can kill you from the infection, leaves permanent scarring, can fuck up your skin to the point of complete lack of feeling, and the 3-hour bristle scrub in the ER will, without any doubt, be the most painful part of your get-off. Wear a friggin jacket, or don't, but thinking it's not a big deal in the case of an accident is pretty fuggin stupid. Sorry.
  15. Mesh is as cool as a t-shirt, and won't let you sunburn. A good mesh jacket will keep you from leaving your back, arms and stomach ground into the pavement.
  16. Yup, concur a credit union is the only place to go for motorcycle financing. Dealer & manufacturef financing usually sucks, rate & term wise. That said, I'll be captain consumer advocate and say that financing toys is generally a horrendous habit to get into....I know a lot of people do it or rationalize that without financing they couldn't afford the bike they're on, but to that I say if you can't afford to be on a bike without going into high-interest debt, you shouldn't be on it. I don't have the latest greatest, never did never will, but I also never owe anyone a payment, and the price I paid for the bike is the price I paid....not years of interest on top of the loss of value.
  17. I'm starting to wonder if I take you guys riding out in the wilderness if I'll look back to see two dismounted bikes and a pile of clothes. Well, that's why I carry a camera so whatever.
  18. How do you like the M&P in 357sig? I have the .40, 45 and 9 and thought about rounding the whole thing out in all the calibers. I had an XD in 357sig and dug it but it was noticeably snappier than the .40, and wondered with the M&P's low boreline if that was as much of an issue.
  19. Sure you can come....I laid out the routes specifically so they would have something for everyone. There are bypasses for the hairy stuff. The technical stuff isn't even really that bad. There are a couple logging roads with some rutted inclines and a few that are rocky, but they're not steep or scary. Ruts can be intimidating, but if you go slow and walk the bike through them the first time no biggie...the worst thing that can happen that way is you fall over going very slow, but if they're beyond what you wanna do there's an easy dirt road detour on every portion like that. To tell the truth, I'm not a super off-roader....I was decent when I was a teenager but I've got screwed up knees so I don't hurl the bike around like I'm invincible anymore and I'm always cool with leading inexperienced riders. I'm pretty happy with a relaxing day on the backroads as much as hitting the gnarly trails.
  20. It's a great place to ride...you'd dig it there's lots of easy sections and unless it's muddy very do-able even for a new rider. Some of it is hairy but you have to purposely seek those sections out. The river crossings are pretty cool too....even better when it's 85 and muggy out...that water feels pretty good! Seriously, when you two feel like doing a ride lemme know.
  21. Be happy to ride it with ya some time, I've been working the last year or so building a good dual-sport loop out that way and so far I have a real nice mix of backroads, light trails, technical sections and twisties built up with gas & food stops along the way. If you ride it all, it's about 175 miles give or take depending on where you start out from.
  22. Well, while you two lovebirds were playing hookie I was too riding trails out in Knox & Coshocton County sweating my jewels off but it was fun as hell. Shame I didn't know you were out and about, we coulda hooked up and rode a bit. I crossed a few rivers, found a few cool unincorporated roads, and chased 3 coyotes down this path before stopping to take a pic (they run 25mph without much effort!).
