    FZ1 Questions

Looking at getting bike # 2 and would like to get a standard that's versatile for commuting and for friends to use for sport touring duty. The bike that keeps coming to mind is the FZ1 which I have heard lots of good things about on this board. Got two questions: 1. Gen1 or Gen2? Which is the better bike for generic sport touring and has nicer manners for a wide range of guest riders to ride? Gen2, I seem to hear, is a bit more high strung. 2. I'm seeing a Gen1 out there with low miles. Like 1,200 miles. It's beautiful and it's been gone through (carbs cleaned and tune up) but I worry about the shape mechanicals are in: cylinders, rubber seals, etc. Any advice? Thanks.
  2. Yeah...riiiiiiight. You're on OR and it's the winter of our discontent.
  3. Hang in there man! I have really enjoyed this thread!
  4. Sounds good. Once you file against the other person, that'll get their attention and they'll be all over their insurance company to get this fixed.
  5. It's part of the indemnification concept - placing the injured party in the same position they were in before the accident. The insurance policy is there to cover the insured against liability and in this case that means the liability for the loss that the injured party has suffered in the economic value of the his property. If the insurance policy doesn't cover this, then the injured can simply pursue their claim against the at fault party in small claims. So in the end, unless this type of loss is excluded, it's probaby covered.
  6. Do some net research and take it from there. The insurance company will hire their own. Then you may get this arbitrated. Expect this to take a while.
  7. Another part of you scenario is increasingly bad customer service.
  8. I've found rednecks and hillbillies (colloqualism for low income rural whites) are handy to have around. They generally help me out when I'm in trouble out in the middle of nowhere. Plus, we need to have at least one socio-economic group that it's PC to make fun of.
  9. Losers also include entry-level job holders that get automated out of a job.
  10. Why not just run the show with him on it and have 'em all hash this out. It's "reality" TV right? LOL. I guess the writer's couldn'tf figure it out.
  11. Sudden price controls generate outcomes you don't want. I like the proposals that do this in a measured way over time. Do it all at once and you may get a big push for automation. Easy to make it work when businesses are awash in cash or can borrow money cheap. Fast food will look a lot like pay-at-the-pump gas stations and u-scan grocery checkout lanes. Push the button on the flat panel and out squirts your food. Anybody remember the guy that would pump your gas, clean your windshield and check the oil? Yeah, me neither.
  12. Ohio auto manufacturer that makes a good product.
  13. It's down to Ford and Honda for car choices now.
  14. Thanks, Tonik. If I do this someday it'll have to be on a bike that'll do this kind of slab mileage relatively pain free.
  15. Is there a reason this is all freeway? Not criticism, just not too familiar with the IBA thing. Straight-line freeway is not fun on the viffer, at least for this old man.
  16. I have personally been through this. Late last year, I had a pristine '05 Mustang GT with less than 40k miles get rear ended. Took about eight months the get everything handled. I got made whole but there were some extenuating circumstances and, in general, it wasn't a slam dunk. Your case may be easier, since your car is nearly new, but in general, the insurance adjusters aren't very competent when it comes to this and there is no standard way to get this done as there is with other claim elements. If your dealer estimates are signed and they will attest to the diminished value difference, you may be in luck. If not then that and KBB will probably do no good. My experience is that dealers will not sign due to liability. You may need to hire an independent appraiser to get this done. Look up some on the 'net. I hired one after some extensive research but I was not impressed -- so I can't help you there. Don't use the insurer's appraiser, since they will be motivated to lowball the value loss. Not all DV claims are the same anyway. If there was structural damage, that's important. That is, if a unibody panel of any kind needed repaired or replaced, then the CarFax or AutoCheck report will be especially damaging. Be sure that is well documented. One side benefit of the appraisal is that a good one will give you their take on the quality of the repairs as well. Again, any structural stuff should be done right and all measurements done and documented by the repair shop. Note to others in this situation: DO NOT use the insurer's recommended body shop! Good luck.
  17. For the People? Silly boy. That one was for the Unions!
  18. To the OP, not only are you not going to get your money back, you're gonna keep paying. Why? Well, the government is running a deficit, remember? So, that $10 billion loss (which is really about $17 million when you include the debt service on the $50 billion investment over 5 years) is going to cost you another $400 million per year. Increasing because the interest compounds annually. Forever. Maybe we could at least get a coupon for a Camaro or something.
  19. Dunno. Just said, "We're open. Stop in and see the same friendly faces just under new management." That was the entire message. The sender was "Ohio Motorcycle" from a gmail address. No details.
  20. Got an email yesterday that they're open under new management.
  21. Depends on the riding. Long-distance, hi speed I'd go faring. Around town naked is fun.
  22. Thank you Mr. Free Market. Buh bye.
  23. Have you ever heard of a "no farting section?" Just about as effective. Ya mean like free speech? Like yelling "fire" in a theatre? I'm having a banner day. Taking counterpoint from IP and Mags.
