  1. http://www.pegramracing.com/ I missed this one. I thought he was still racing the R1.
  2. How does the build quality and accuracy of these compare to something like a Ruger SR22?
  3. I think people tend to over maintain bikes period. I think a 3,000 street miles for oil changes is over maintaining, but I think an interval of 3,000 track miles would be too infrequent. Which was the original point...track bikes are typically ridden harder. Not exactly sure why this is up for debate.
  4. ...and why does a track bike need oil changed every 2-4 days it's ridden?
  5. Seriously? Track bikes get 10 times more abuse...spend way more time at higher rpm...hard braking...rims get dinged up with more frequent tire changes...parts are swapped on and off. Ive never seen a bike with 30k track miles that looked new.
  6. The bars could be after market. Is it a triumph speed twin?
  7. The 1125R was raced in DSB and AMA Superbike. There were 2 different states of tune that fit the rules for each class. I believe that was also true for the Aprilia RSV1000. The torque curve was very flat. From the butt dyno, it pulled like a freight train from under 4k. There is power across the whole rev range. The motor on my CBR is docile by comparison. If memory serves, I believe the 1125 won 1 or 2 NHRA Drag Racing Championships.
  8. Buell 1125s handle wonderfully and they feel like real Superbikes. I had an 1125R. They had a few out of the box issues, which were easily resolved...except for the stator. HD issued a "fix" which prevents the stator from cooking itself, but can leave the bike starved for power in some situations, like long periods of idling in hot weather (think rush hour traffic). There are a few options to fix the stator, but they can get expensive. In 15,000 miles the stator never left me on the side of the road, but it was always in the back of my mind.
  9. Since we're talking Europe, this is on my bucket list. 6 days of guided motorcycle tours on windy roads in the Austrian, Swiss, and Italian Alps. They provide the motorcycles. http://www.edelweissbike.com/en/cont/def/alps-extreme.html START/FINISH: Innsbruck NEAREST AIRPORT: Innsbruck DURATION: 8 days vacation, 6 riding days ROUTE: Total distance 1250 - 1410 miles (2020 - 2280 km). Daily rides 155 - 235 miles (250 - 380 km). The entire route runs on good asphalt roads. ACCOMMODATIONS: Beautiful small hotels with the special flair of the region. REST DAY: Levico HIGHLIGHTS: Innsbruck, Passo di Stelvio, Dolomites, Grossglockner, Passo Gavia, Passo di Manghen, Ziller Valley, Plätzwiesensattel
  10. Check Bad Weather Bikers classifieds. If the owner can't tell you any details about the stator, assume it needs to be replaced. Those stators aren't cheap.
  11. My dream bike would be 450 lbs wet, fully adjustable SS spec suspension, decent wind protection, 100+ rwhp, comfort for 500 miles days, & hard cases. Unfortunately it doesn't exist. The bikes that come the closest are the Ninja 1000 & BMW F800GT. So...I am going with my CBR with Helibars, adjustable footpegs, and probably a Ventura Rack/Pack.
  12. You would probably never notice any difference in corner speed unless a lap timer was involved. I wasn't sure I'd like Helibars, but I took a chance. It was a good move.
  13. Have you considered Helibars? They made a big difference on my CBR600RR. 500 mile days are no problem and it handles better than any sport tourer.
  14. How much for a Ventura Rack/Pack for a 2010 CBR600RR? I may be the only one dumb enough to sport tour a CBR.
  15. This thread tells me only 1 thing: The weather sucks!
  16. It had a cool for it's day 20 valve engine. I liked it better than my buddy's V45 Magna of the same era. I liked the looks of that 80's Fazer.
  17. I could ride my '99 Magna at a respectable 6 or 7/10ths pace. Of course it's also the only bike I've ever crashed. The rear wheel lost traction in a bumpy left hand turn and low sided Wrong tool for the job. I've taken that same turn much faster on other bikes without issue.
  18. There are certainly pleanty of posers & idiots on any style of motorcycle. Harley used to be a considered a performance motorcycle. They used to have the biggest baddest motors you could get on 2 wheels. Somewhere around 1965, HD forgot how to innovate. HD's biggest engineering feat in the last 30 years has been the move from carbs to FI, and that was forced on them by the EPA. Personally, I would prefer to own something American. I have owned three Buells...EBR is showing signs of life...I would really love for the largest American motorcycle manufacturer to create an impressive, performance machine on par with bikes from other manufacturers.
  19. One of these days, I'm going to show up for a ride in an actual Power Ranger Suit. Maybe I'll stop by bike night on the way home.
