  5. I'm (respectfully) going to go with an opposing viewpoint here, so brace yourselves: Streetcars fucking suck Go balls out, build a race car, and race it. Take it to the track, enjoy it, and then take it home and park it. The whole fast street car thing is a giant, never ending compromise. Most of the time you're listening to your motor because you can't hear anything else, breathing your smelly exhaust, and stuck behind some fat old guy's SUV in traffic with no A/C. Then, if you ever get an open stretch of road, or by some miracle actually line up with another car worth racing (even when you're only in the 12's they are few and far between out on the street), you have decide its worth the risk to go for it. These days it's only getting riskier. Let's go further out on a limb and say you pull of a clean W.O.T. run or a good race without getting busted or wrecking. In my experience you get about 5 seconds of quality W.O.T. entertainment for every ten hours you drive around getting 6-12 mpg. The unfortunate reality is driving a fast car on the street sucks 99.99% of the time. You're much better off getting a nice comfortable DD, preferably one that can pull a trailer with your race car on it, and have the best of both worlds. A comfortable, practical DD and a race car. Keep the race car registered if you wanna pull it out for meets or cruise ins every now and then, but otherwise leave it at home. No worries about getting hit by some dumbass (they're plentiful!) and ruining years worth of hard work or a ton of money. I tried having a race car on the street, I thought it would be awesome, it sucked. I thought I would get all sorts of sweet races, I didn't. The only attention I got was from the police and other 16-25 year old dudes. I've been pulled over, I've been arrested, it really sucked, and I got off easy. I'm not even going to go into the whole what if you wreck thing. This board knows about that well enough already. If you've got the money, make it a race car and get a nice DD as well. Anything else is just going to be frustrating. just my $.02! /flamesuit on
  6. This outcome was inevitable from the start. It's always fun to see internet hard asses get silenced in real life though.
  7. I would try finding old insurance records or even calling your old insurance company and asking them.

    cubical life

I share a giant double wide cube with 3 other interns. Two of them suck, one of them is cool. We waste a lot of time bouncing bouncy balls around or playing pranks on each other and other stupid shit. I'm usually pretty busy, but if I get bored I can go to the engine lab or vehicle dyno lab and shoot the shit with those guys.

  17. thats true, but it'd be even better if the torque curve was flat and the power curve went up as the RPM's did. by the way is this car 2wd or 4wd?
  18. good to know! I guess this is something else to add to my to do list....

    S10 Update.

Looks nice! I like the exhaust placement but i don't think I'd wanna ride shotgun with the window down....
  21. I made a similar decision when i sold my car. I barely drove it, i never had a good reason to, it got terrible mileage, and driving it on the street lost its appeal real quickly. After getting pulled over at roughly 140mph (you remember that day right, shanton!?) and dealing with the shit that followed, i realized speeding on the street just wasn't worth it to me. Then about a year ago one of my friends wrecked his car going way over the speed limit and hit a pole nearly killing himself and his wife. After some surgery and a lot of physical therapy they both made a pretty good recovery but I don't know if he'll ever be back to 100% of what he was before physically, and it could have easily been WAY worse for both of them. That hit close to home for me, and it made me realize how much I do not want to be driving hard on the street. I decided i could make my car a dedicate track car, but it just wasn't there. There were lots of things I'd have to fix or upgrade at a cost I wasn't willing to pay at this point in my life, not including the insane cost of track time in general. I'd also be driving it to and from the track since i didn't have a truck or trailer which is probably not a great idea. Luckily I had a great daily driver that was safe, fuel efficient, and comfortable, and I decided let my RX-7 go. I lost a ton of money but I was okay with it due to how much I learned from that car and how ready i was to get rid of it. I recently bought a go-kart and will start racing it here shortly (already did an autox). I bought a cheap trailer, a kart, some gear, and I'm ready to race at the limit in a safe, fun, LEGAL environment. I feel like I made the right choice, and so far I'm 100% happy with it. It sucks to let a project car go, but I think you're making the right decision, especially if you have debt to pay off.
