Five Arrested for silently dancing at Jefferson Memorial
Scruit replied to chevysoldier's topic in Dumpster
So, they didn't like what the courts ruled about dancing so they decided to do it anyway?? The appropriate battleground is in the court system. If you wanted to protest the freeway speed limit by arranging a group of cars to do 90mph around 270 then don't be surprised when you all get arrested. -
BTW, It's been a couple weeks since I saw a Cruiser rider wearing a helmet. Did I miss a memo or something?
-
Had a giggle today... Saw a couple on sport bikes (young male and young female, seperate bikes) and notices they had helmets on. Good! Then I notices they both had tank tops, shorts and sneakers. No gloves. I thought; "At least the helmet will keep them alive long enough to enjoy the road rash cleanup process..." I'm through arguing about gear. Your body, your choice. My body, my choice. You want to ride around butt-naked? I don't care, won't affect me. Just don't ask me to feel sorry for you when the nurse is scrubbing gravel out our skin with a wire brush.

That dog must have been a NASCAR fan, always turning in the same direction...

My first commute on my bike I took the freeway. As I was waiting in backed-up traffic to exit at work a hit-skip driver started a 6-car accident right behind me. I was not in the right position to escape to th eside of the car in front of me, so I had no choice but to hope the smashing would stop before the car behind me was shunted into me. So I don't commute on the freeway any more. I'll slab it outside of rush-hour, but rush-hour is nothing more than a collective mass of stupidity and inattention with plenty of selfishness thrown in. I found a backroads commute that would up being only 5 minutes longer. The actual distance is much further but I'm always moving at avg 55mph whereas the freeway is 70-75mph for a few miles then 5 minutes fighting to defend your spot in the exit lane. 4 of those exits = a 25 minute journey becomes 35-40 minutes of stress. Made even more stressful by the vulnerability of being on a bike. An accident on the freeway can add half an hour to my commute. An accident on the backroads = just take the next parallel road. Country lane commute = much more relaxing.

Our toy poodles do the running-in-circles thing. We call it a "frenzy". It's amazing how much traction they have on carpet. On pergo, not so much....

That's WITH insurance! $4800 is the deductible. The total before insurance was over $8000. Current insurance is $4800 deductible then 80%, $8k max out of pocket. At my last company they had a $4k deductible then they cover 100%. But the company reimbursed the first $3k. My max out-of-pocket for the year for $1k.

You could paint the studs and pretend they're not there... Or you could buy a custom seat and specify no studs.

I use intamapper.com It's just a $30 boost mobile phone with free software installed. The phone is installed hidden in the bike and hard-wired to the battery. The phone constantly tracks its location using gps and reports the location to the instamapper.com website. I can track the location of the bike at any time, plus where it has been for the last couple of months. I looked into the process for transferring it and it was a pain in the ass to transfer a sim card etc. Would be much easier to buy a new boost phone from walmart or meijer (they run $50 now) and start a new account etc. If the bike's buyer is interested then I'll set that up for them as part of the sale.

Bump for lower price. Recent medical bills are forcing a quick sale.

Due to recent medical bills (http://ohioriders.net/showthread.php?t=76026) I have to sell all my unused bike stuff. PowerTrip men's leather overpants, 38, cruiser-style. Good condition. Zippered up the sides so you can easily put them on/take them off even while wearing boots. Heavy leather (weighs 4lbs). These pants are in great shape. There's a quarter-sized scuff on the right knee, a scratch on the right shin, the cuffs are a little faded and one of the snaps has lost it's decorative top (spare snap provided). All cosmetic. I decided to go the hi-viz textile route instead. Paid about $200 new for these in 2004. They have about 7000 bike miles on them. Current retail price is still about $200. Asking $100.

Due to recent medical bills (http://ohioriders.net/showthread.php?t=76026) I have to sell all my unused bike stuff. PowerTrip men's leather jacket, XL, cruiser-style. Like new. Removable liner. Zippered vents. Foam back insert. Heavy leather (Jacket weighs 6lbs). Nothing wrong with this jacket - I just decided to go the hi-viz textile route instead. Paid about $300 new for this in 2004. It has about 5000 bike miles on it. It is almost identical to the PowerTrip PowerGlide (except this one doesn't have adjustable side straps) which retails for $299 at IP. Asking $150.

Back from the dead. All the bills and insurances have been processed and I'm in the hole by $4,800. Although for your schadenfreude-esque pleasure, I found this pic on my phone. Was taken right after I woke up. I have no memory of taking this pic. My wife said I took this pic and was trying to post it to facebook but the cell reception was too bad there. I'll take her word for it.

Sorry to hear. It was for the best.

On other forums people have argued that it's legal to pass on a double-yellow if you are passing a slow vehicle. Can't speak for Kentucky, but in Ohio you *can* pass on a double-yellow as long as all of the following are true: - The pass can be completed without exceedng the speed limit (redundant, but specifically stated in the double-yellow law) - The pass can be completed within the distance that can be seen to be clear, and can be made without interfering with other traffic. - The vehicle you are passing is travelling at less than half the speed limit That truck did not look to be going at less than half the speed limit.
-
Oh, and people keep making a point about the biker crossing the double yellow and him getting a ticket based upon the video... Well, in the road-rage incident I was involved in the rager was set off by me running a stop sign. The police and prosecutor saw the video that shows me running the stop sign and never once hinted at giving me a ticket. The only mention of the stop sign was during the plea/sentencing when the judge said; "Although Mr.Scruit acknowledged that he violated your right-of-way that is no excuse for what you did." In this kind of case it's more important to punish the crime than the traffic infraction. Not saying he won't get a ticket - just saying when the prosecutor and judge look at that video they will focus on the truck.

Ah, well that would make more sense. I was going by this quote: "Jim Fischer The pickup driver was arrested for reckless driving" I guess they meant: "Jim Fischer: The pickup driver was arrested for reckless driving"

I think you'll find I *did* so sideways past the pole. Well, horizontal means sideways, right?
-
Oh, and it's much easier to pick up a Strom resting on its side case than a cruiser flat on its side.

I added detail to the first post.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bJLN50g29uc Enjoy. I didn't. The metal pole ("bollard" as the Brits like to call them) is retractable and stops cars from driving down the driveway. Intalled after someone backed a truck down there and burgled my workshop. The bike fits through just fine if I go between teh bollard and the house, but the trash can was there. Never tried going between the bollard and the bushes. Not gonna try again. About 2" less gap than I need. The damage was limited to scuffs on the right hard case, a hole in the left side case (fixed with cyanoacrylate) and a small scuff on the right hand guard. The bike fell into the bush so the bike itself was 100% fine. No injuries to myself or my son. I now have a new rule of riding past the bollard at walking pace with my feet down.

You joke, but it could be true. Unless there is confirmation that he was actually arrested or charged then that "Jim Fischer wa charged with..." blurb that is doing the round could be a hoax. The bit that makes me suspicious is the DUI thing. Unless the police either "caught him driving drunk soon after the incident", or "caught him driving drunk in an unrelated incident" then it would be unusual to charge him with DUI. If they got to him the next day then how could they prove that he was DUI at the time of the incident? That's why drunks run from accidents. They know they'll probably be cuaght and charged with hit and run but they won't get a DUI if they can be away from the scene long enough to either sober up or "have a few drinks after the accident".

I went to that facebook link and got the "Only shares information with friends" message. Was it originally open to the world? Did you see the facebook page?
-
So still no official confirmation that the truck driver was arrested? There's that one blurb that's been reposted on all the forums but I can't find any news articles and the municipal court in Augusta, Kentucky doesn't appear to have online records... Bracken County KY District Court has no Fischer in their upcoming docket as far out as September 2011

Catching someone messing with my bike would seriously piss me off. Whenever my bike moves it sends me a text message.
