  1. No tickets if you run from the chopper
  2. I don't think you need red light cameras for that intersection
  3. How long have you had the battery? The voltages sound a little low to me. The clicking is normal, you just can't hear that when the bike is starting properly. It is the starter relay (solenoid etc..) and it will click when you hit the start button. If that is clicking and not turning over, then it probably is a dead battery. When it is charging (~5500 rpm, I don't know the exact rpm for the ex500) it should be reading around 14+ volts and high 12's sitting (as jporter said)
  4. I'm interested, but we'll see. If I can be there, I will. By the way, magz, is this considered high beams or is this cool for group rides? It is kinda bright So yeah, still no upper so if I do come out I will have to be home before dark.
  5. You brought this back from 2 years ago to mess up a quote?
  6. 1--thirdgen has 200,000+ miles on his stock clutch ('04 f4i), and I have seen them going at 14,000mi as well so I'm not even going to estimate. I am going to say that you (probably) don't have a problem or else you would have noticed. To diagnose: if it is jerky while fully disengaged and shifting gears (1st doesn't count) and/or is jerky under heavy acceleration I would want to pull it and check the plates eventually (not the first thing I would do though). 2-- Go slow for a while is the best advice, you can also use a brillo pad to scuff it if you HAVE to. 3--You can certainty drive it legally, but being a motor vehicle it needs to be titled, registered and plated. It has been a while since I have looked it up, but the BMV website should have your answer so I won't comment about old information. 4--It doesn't really matter; I got my first to learn on and fix up and flip. So mine was only around for 6 months or so. I like different rides and the chase of the buy (and wrenching on different projects), so I am on my 4th bike within 13/14 months. 5--There is a little you can do, but I would say try re-adjusting and lubing it first. Some bikes just have notoriously heavy clutch pulls 6--I carry my cell phone and a list of friends/family I know can help me if necessary. You are a biker, you will be surprised how many will stop and help you if you are visibly in duress. I should ride with a kit, but most of the stranded stories that I have heard/told wouldn't have been fixed by having a toolkit on me. In short, if you are stranded it probably isn't just a loose bolt that you can fix quickly (that should be taken care of with regular maintenance anyway)
  7. What kind of bikes specifically, you are getting into whitworth thread years with the early 70's depending what you are wrenching on. I tore down a '73 850 commando with just basic ratchets/sockets (metric, imperial and whitworth), allen headed sockets (the kind that chevy posted, you can torque with them), torque wrenches with adapters (1/4" and 1/2" click style, adapters for 1/4-3/8, 3/8-1/4, 1/2-3/8 so I have a range of 20 in. lbs to 150 ft lbs), some vice grips/wrenches (you will need to overlap sizes with the wrenches and sockets to torque bolts) and large sockets. Don't forget to have a mapp/propane torch laying around with a hammer and grinder; I have made many a specialized tooling (a few for bikes as well) which speeds up assembly greatly and much less costly. Also, band-aids; you will smash your fingers and bleed at least once Get quality, especially if doing anything engine related (I'm sure you will be), craftsman works great for the price point. Husky won't fly, broke a socket loosening a bolt on an engine once and the ratchet mechanism later locked up (borrowing friend's tools, wasn't too happy they came back broken haha). That is all I can think of right now, if I remember anything else I will post it up. -edit- PB blaster and an impact (hand style with a hammer end works) will do wonders for seized bolts that you don't want to drill out and replace. You will inevitably have seized and rusted tight screws on old bikes, and some will have to be drilled out, but I have found it useful.
  8. Probably not for me..shipping time for parts has been delayed so I won't be able to get a proper ride in before this
  9. I'm all good man, I just noticed a road that was familiar to me so I split off then. By the time I realized it (dark out, so at first I didn't see it) you guys already rolled out form the stop and I couldn't signal like I wanted to. It was a nice ride out for me as well. Sorry I missed you beforehand lost, I had already left by the time you posted. I saved your number, I will text you next time. Thanks for leading too
  10. I should be in for this. Are you still planning on not leading?. I am a little confused though; this is separate from CORE even though we would meet them, correct? This might be a break in for me on a new bike, so I don't want to ride with CORE for that.
  11. I like that. I can meet up with you/jbot somewhere around there if you guys want
  12. Is that route for the CORE ride?
  13. magz, jbot, when/where are you leaving from? I can switch my schedule up and be in mayfield area in the afternoon and then go north to meet up with you guys, then ride down to VV
  14. I should be able to make this. Taking fun roads there or back?
  15. Count me in for mon, tues, thurs after 5.30 and wed, friday after 1(-ish) if you are in a rush to ride!I probably won't have the parts to finish my basket case build this week so I will have more free time. I got the cobwebs off today on a short 2/3hr ride. I didn't text you because I was just planning a casual, short ride and I figured you wouldn't be interested
  16. I ended up around brandywine/boston mills and then I got my bike washed at some random high school (I think) on 82 around brunswick, They had all these signs up for a car wash and no one was there, so I paid em $2 and got a wash! It needed it too
  17. Sick video and even more amazing rider! This is going in the saved videos
  18. Haha, don't worry about it man. I thought I recognized you when I was heading the other way and just wanted to make sure. I couldn't hear what you were saying (music playing, helmet, etc), but I needed to get going soon after anyway so I just took the right when you took the left at the fork after the hard right. I was just really itching to get out and needed to shake some cobwebs off after a month, plus I only had like 2-3 hours (that's why I didn't post any ride up, too short)
  19. For motorcycles on KBB there are only 2 option, trade-in or retail. There isn't anything about condition. Bikes also don't really go below $1K very often because you are starting to get into scrap/part out range. Without knowing a lot about it, its hard to price (and I'm normally pricing sportbikes and cars, I figure it can't be too far off) but I would guess that he could get $1300-$1400 (there will be a lot of offers on CL for $1K though) Why does it need new carbs? I can understand gaskets/cleaning, but a whole new set of carbs is unusual. Its a 2006 with 2K miles; has he just put it away without prepping it and now it won't start?

    May 28 ride?

So what time is good for you guys? I can be ready by 2, but I think it would be better to plan for 3 or 4 if everyone sees this by then. I don't have any idea for a route though
  21. imprez55

    May 28 ride?

I would be interested in a ride mid to late day. What did you have in mind?
  22. imprez55

    Amazing!

Considering $3k is trade-in, you were very generous. But dont forget, it also has a hard plastic thingy to go over the second seat!
  23. Give the guy a break! It's hard to gain experience when you only ride a couple miles a year.. By the way, how do you get all of that trauma and injury from a 25mph crash? I am thinking that was a lie, especially when the highway patrolman was going 90mph when it happened
  24. and those who don't read the post date..its from 2006 people! Likwid raised it from the dead
  25. It depends on what you like, levers are personal preference only pretty much. I like the feel of shorty levers, so that is what I run. I even chop down OEM levers until I can get shorties. Short levers also stay in tact better during a crash. Personally, I like shorty levers and symmetry, so I would never run a longer clutch (I usually use just 2 fingers for the clutch anyway).
