Just use the octane recommended by the manufacturer. Different octanes are different, not better or worse .... just different.

The M9 is one of the few mainstream handguns I haven't owned. Enjoy it! I baught several hundred rounds of S&B from cabela's for around $9.00 per box and I've had no problems with it.
