    Casual Ride

Whoa, I just read your post about the sticking suspension and locking front brake??? Tires are your second problem! Suspension is kind of nice. Brakes are pretty much a must have . You got some work to do before any rides. Casual or otherwise.

+1^ I do all kinds of rides as well. You are welcome to come along. Get your tires replaced first.
  3. Looks like a great ride. I would love to try it but the RR will not put up with 30 or 40 miles of that:eek:. Love the pictures.

Same here Ryan. You showed reserve and good sense . I will ride with you anytime.
  5. I just watched the promo video, twice! This has to be an absolute blast. I was wondering, how does one fold a 6 foot 200 lbs adult body on such a tiny motorcycle? Also there is a pretty large and cool looking cart track east of Indy (Greenfield?). Its a lot closer than Pit. Do you guys ever ride there?

OK here is an easy meeting spot for tomorrows ride. Tim Hortons on Memorial Drive in Lancaster. Its about a block East of Fair Ave. on the right. Like to leave by 9:00 if possible.
  7. Yeah, I was at work when the news broke. When a fellow New Yorker told me about it, I thought he was rattling my chain. Go figure. They dismissed us and on the way home the sky was totally void of planes. It suddenly hit me " we are at war"
  8. Count me in. Hope to hang with you guys the whole day.

Not sure how far you guys want to go. Don't have a map but we could make a run to Millie's on the river. I would go through Hocking to 56 to 536 to 50 to 143. On the way back take the back roads to Athens. 7 to 284 to 124 to 681 to 33A. Slab it form Athens on 33. A bit of everything. If we start in Lancaster I can spice it up some more. Since I am far closer to Hocking you guys should pick a spot.
  11. Wow! Man if I had the time this could be a lot of fun.

    this weekend rides

It supposed to rain in the afternoon. However, I am down for an early Saturday morning ride. A few weeks ago I left at 8:30 for Middleport and made it back to Canal by 1:30. I stopped for a bite at a hole in the wall place to eat. All in all a pretty good ride.
  13. Some one with flat tracking experience should cut in here. A sliding tire does not slow too well. On the other hand a sliding tire does not load the suspension. Those guys are trying to set up for the turn. Similar to flat trackers or the rally cars.
  14. OK, just got back form a practice session. Yeah, I have a four day weekend:D. Conventional wisdom wins. It was day light and no adrenalin so,??? Apply rear brake, front brake. Bike squats. Slowly (?) increase pressure till tires howl. Keep it there. If I had the presence of mind to do ^ the bike might have come to a stop without all the drama, swearing, and hopping around. The motorcycle gods sent a wake up call and looked out for me at the same time. Lucky or fortunate, whatever. Be careful out there. Especially now that daylight is shorter and the leaves are coming down.
  15. No, its not off topic. If I remember correctly the force of friction = the normal force time the coefficient of friction. I think the normal force at 45 degrees is 0.7 of 90 degrees. So you got 70% available. Where did this come from?
  16. Yeah, I checked . No experience in true PANIC stops and I intend to get some muscle memory going. I have been in bad situations before and handled them correctly. Didn't see this one coming and my reactions were purely instinctive. There were two huge errors . Over rode my headlight and I pulled the rear tire off the ground. For our scientists out there, a more powerful rear brake would have put me in a skid. I started the evasive actions correctly. Rear brake, front brake. Closing on the car quickly made me grab for more front brake. NOT RECOMMENDED. It started a chain of counter productive results.
  17. No doubt, its good advice. (20-20 hind site?) Would you explain about the rear brake comment.? In my case the rear tire was not on the ground so its a moot point. I am just curious as to what you mean? No, I did not use my brakes correctly. I just got LUCKY, VERY LUCKY, and survived the encounter without a scratch. All kinds of things happened in that 1-1/2 seconds but I did not want to dwell on it.
  18. I agree with you. Not much space to carry a sledge hammer.
  19. This morning about 6:30 AM, still dark, I had an extremely dangerous encounter on Front Street just north of Greenlawn. A car pulled out from a side street and turned left ( mostly in my lane). I knew that there was not enough distance to stop the bike. The only thing left to do was to scrub off as much speed as possible to minimize impact. All you guys out there with liter bikes, they will pull a stoppie with stock brakes (two fingers on the brake lever). So, what is the most effective breaking technique??? The conventional wisdom of rear brake, front brake caused me to slide forward onto the tank. Additional brake pressure pulled the rare wheel off the road in a hart beat. This was my first stoppie and I puckered to 100%. I could not stop but miraculously slipped between the back of the car and the cars parked on the side of street.:bow:I think there is some dirt from the car on the side of my pants. By the way the Michelin Road 2's never slid and pretty much saved my bacon.
  20. Always stop on one side or the other. Watch your mirrors and just pull forward if your alarms go off. This has protected me more than a few times over the years.
  21. Chipmunk, squirrel, and a suicidal groundhog in Lancaster. Close calls with deer, couple of dogs, a loose cow standing on a road in New York State:eek:
  22. 284 is the real roller coaster. The lower section of 555 was clear of gravel so it was pretty good.

    helmet law?

I never ride with out my helmet. NEVER. Having said that, I despise being told what to do.
  24. Thanks for letting me tag along. I had my doubts at the start but, turned out to be a excellent day. Should have come with me though. 33-A was excellent. Not one car to pass anywhere. I got to Athens pretty quick.
