  1. I have owned two Outbacks and still have one. 1st one was hit and I sold it after repair. Awesome cars and I have never owned a car that is so good on tires and brakes. 100k on my '02 Outback and I just replaced the front pads (resurfaced rotors) backs are still original. 2nd set of tires just went on. Gas mileage is not great 23-24 average city or highway. Only knock is that while they look big, they fill up fast, especially if you have passengers. So, top rack box almost becomes a necessity. The other vehicle that I have thought of looking at and I wish Ford had done more with it is the http://www.ford.com/crossovers/flex/ They priced the damn thing too high and fuel economy blows but not much worse than the Subby. No clue on the reliability but given my luck with Subaru, I doubt it is better.
  2. Like anything, what do you want to do in the boots? Check out the links below and see the different categories for Hiking vs Snow boots. http://www.sierratradingpost.com/mens-winter-and-snow-boots~d~458/ http://www.rei.com/category/4500006_Men%27s+Footwear/q/Men%27s+Boots http://www.overstock.com/Clothing-Shoes/Boots/1937/subcat.html Sorel, Danner, Salomon are brands that have treated me well. If you spend more for a really good pair, it will be the last pair you ever buy. If you want a pair of boots to slog around in play in the snow and mud, go sledding and such, you are going to want waterproof, insulated and for them to be tall. Can't knock a pair of Sorels. http://www.rei.com/product/674940/sorel-caribou-boots-mens or something like this http://www.rei.com/product/821240/bogs-classic-ultra-high-rain-boots-mens Hiking boots come in all shapes and sizes depending on the terrain and if you are going to be carrying heavy loads. Then it is personal preference. I like a boot that has a firm, rubber sole as I find they give better traction and stability. http://www.danner.com/boots/danner-light-80th.html or http://www.zappos.com/la-sportiva-trango-extreme-evo-light-gtx-silver-black?ef_id=UOEsEgAAEQ0l5imk:20121231060922:s Also, many can be re-soled and hence, last a lifetime. The molded rubber soles (like on the bugaboot) will eventually fail and the boot is trashed. http://www.rei.com/product/667406/asolo-fsn-95-gtx-hiking-boots-mens,-light-brown/sand?preferredSku=6674060139&cm_mmc=cse_froogle-_-pla-_-product-_-6674060139&mr:referralID=b6b3c223-5310-11e2-97b3-001b2166becc But, we are talking decades for this to happen not years. In short, a good pair of field boots and a pair of light hikers would probably suffice most of your boot needs. For all around use, I avoid insulated and prefer to add a pair of wool socks. Goretex (waterproof) is worth the money and can even double as a riding boot. http://www.altrec.com/danner-boots/mens-grouse-8-in-hunting-boots?sku_id=2141265&cm_mmc=Mercent-_-Google+PLA-_-Danner%20Boots-_-165561-2141265&mr:trackingCode=C817A8EA-9429-E211-ACC7-001B2163195C&mr:referralID=NA&mr:adType=pla&mr:ad=18027139617&mr:keyword=&mr:match=&mr:filter=21201823497&origin=pla&gclid=CK-I5OyCxLQCFQVgMgod-WYAug would be my choice for an all purpose boot.
  3. French Lick, IN might be a decent option. Chicago is fine but it is a shitty town in the winter. You can't walk around and need a cab everywhere. But, it can be done and there are some good restaurants that won't set you back a weeks wages. Bu I would not say inexpensive when a bottle of bud can run you $5-$7 at most bars. Sheraton downtown might have some good deals on rooms after New Years. I haven't gone yet but the WV ski resorts are on my list of places for a get-away.
  4. Guys, let me clarify my position. Stoner did take Ducati to a championship but that was in 2007 (rest are Yamaha and Honda > Rossi, Lorenzo and Stoner) and it was NOT the carbon frameless bike. The last time Ducati won any (GP/WSBK) championship is with Stoner on a trellis and Checa on a trellis. MotoGP > Stoner rode the carbon thing, struggled. Rossi stepped in and struggled even more. Ducati ditched the carbon and went to an aluminum perimeter frame. Bike still was horrible and both Rossi and Hayden suffered for it. (maybe it was tires or ??, I don't know). Any fact misrepresentation or misstatements of the facts yet? Also, we saw what Stoner could do on the Honda so we know it wasn't the rider. Rossi gets redemption this year on Yamaha, so we have to wait and see if it was bike or rider (I say bike). WSBK > Checa won the SBK 2011 title on a trellis and was doing well in the first few races of 2012. Then the race org. slapped a 6lb weight penalty on him and he suffered the rest of the year. http://www.bikesportnews.com/news-detail.cfm?newstitle=Ducati-WSBK-weight-penalty-abolished-next-season&newsid=8271 My comments about WSBK 2013 is that they are moving to Panigale and I ASSUME it is some race version of the production model. Is it safe to assume the same guys that built the GP carbon unit may have had a hand in the SBK carbon unit? So, carbon frameless bike again. Could it be different, yes but if Checa struggles this year, it shouldn't come as a surprise. Crap bike, quite possibly. Time will tell. BMW earned their dues and I am quite positive that Ducati will have to earn theirs as well. Killer motor, weight penalties or not. True enough, MotoGP is a different breed of motorcycle. Also true that WSBK is not the same thing as the production bikes. But we know that technologies are shared. As such, I believe it is perfectly valid to use MotoGP results as a basis for understanding of what can happen when a similar approach is applied in WSBK. Ducati hasn't had much success with the MotoGP bike(s) and it should not come as a surprise if they struggle in WSBK. Bad bike or will the 17" Pirelli tires make all the difference? Maybe or maybe not. If he does well, I will be pleasantly surprised and everyone can get a good chuckle on my behalf. But if he struggles, I get to crow to Ducati to go back being a Ducati = Trellis frame. That is and was a winning model. In short, I am no owner fanboi that simply believes Ducati is going to kick ass because they have some fancy new bedazzler of a bike and/or XYZ super jock rider. History shows that this frameles approach has not been successful in a non-production RACE bike. Two if not 3 of the best riders in the business have not been able to ride it to victory. (yes, 2010 Stoner did get a few podiums but he also crashed a lot and took a ton of shit for his efforts). MotoGP <> WSBK, fair enough but there are enough similarities for me to argue a correlation and if Checa struggles, causality. I am still quite interested to see how your bike comes out, how you do this season and how it compares to your previous KTM. (And for the record, my first response to your original post was in jest, I am seriously jealous.)
  5. Classic prisoners dilema on submitting the form without talking to the seller: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Prisoner's_dilemma OK, I didn't read through all the pages but I have done this twice in other states. In both cases, the bikes were actually gifted to me. In both cases, DMV looked up the value of the bike (NADA, KBB or the like) and applied a sales tax. Pissed me off as the bikes were xfered to me for nothing. I just took it as a "gift tax" and moved on. I am suprised that Ohio doesn't do something similar to avoid this issue?
  6. Yes, pre-facked pints and quarts that are frozen solidl. Or, we have pint and quart to-go packaging that you can make you own from the machines. Though, it melts kind of fast. .5 mile north of I-675 on 48. Kettering/Centerville area.
  7. I don't understand why anyone would think the Duc will do good in WSBK. The carbon framed bike was shit and Stoner + Rossi proved it. Aluminum frame was not improvement. 1 + 1 + 1 = 0. So, I have no hope of the Duc being any better in WSBK. But, maybe they have different tires or did something else. I feel sorry for Checa. They screwed him last year with the extra weight and now a bad bike. I wish they would just stuff the engine into the old 1198R trellis be get back to being a Ducati. What am I missing that gives anyone hope?
  8. Buehler? Anyone know anyone?
  9. Here are the pics that I have. Overall, the car is in pretty good shape for what it is. Fluids, hoses and belts would probably get it running and a driver. Restoration, that is another matter.
  10. I say rise above it all and bring in baked goods. However, bring in the annoying healthy kind to show how you worry about their lack of self control. Something like that Hummus crap that chicks all seem to like. If you were closer, you could have some of my wife's PMS brownies. If baking is too much, have Pizza delivered but make sure it has whole wheat crust or something like that.
  11. As I mentioned before, I place most of the blame for events like this on the media. In search for a plausable explanation, it occured to me that the we have all (or many of us) seen this type of event before. Anakin Skywalker in Star Wars 3 slaughters an entire school of very yound Jedi Knights. This scene was so distrubing to me I left the theatre and sent a letter to the studio condemming them for going too far. The murder is of the right age to have been influenced by this movie and with his temperment, I don't believe that it would be too much of a stretch for him to associate with a disgruntled teenage Anakin. In my search to determine which SW movie (3) had this scene, I came across this article which suggests that I am not alone. Lots of theories but this is definetly not out of the realm of reason and should be a very strong causal link between violence and media. http://ocdisneyblog.com/2012/12/15/was-the-connecticut-shooter-inspired-by-anakins-attack-on-the-jedi-temple/
  12. Bumping this back up as I talked with my Aunt and she still has the car. She is looking to get $8,500 for the car now. We had some wild assumptions on the cars value, initially. She had someone come out and appraise it. I will repost the pics, asap.
  13. I thought the same last night and looked at it as a possible track bike. But, i thought the standard procedure was the keep quiet about bad pricing and move on. Problem with Japanese bikes is that they are a dime a dozen and nothing really special. Combine that with everyone gee-gawing at the new techno electro assisted bikes (BMW, Kawi, Pungale) and the market gets really soft for these. IMO, fix it, ride it and enjoy it.
  14. Thanks for that wake up. I don't follow the other race classes that much and I don't know why I didn't think to check and see if the bike was running there. I guess the decision to keep it out of WSBK until 2013 was applied to all classes. Good to see it ran strong with the BMW and Kawis.
  15. Nothing is absolute accept death. Everything can and will be changed, altered or deleted if their is sufficient desire. You said newspapers, not me. I said print. The advantage electronic media is that it provides greater reach at a lower cost. It is often parsed, easily misunderstood and rarely captured for reference. As such, it is has a far greater power to influence with greater disguise. Print requires much more effort and generally, is not distributed to the masses. People actually have to put forth the effort to read and comprehension is not guaranteed. It is impossible to hide behind the words when they are visible and not distributed in the form of a sound bite.
  16. I have said it before and will say it again, this country would be far better off if we turned off the TV. Best thing Obama and Congress could due is terminate all broadcasting rights. Let the people get their news in print and form independent thoughts without manipulation.
  17. I am curious as to how you react after riding it, especially in comparison to the KTM track bike. We all know that Stoner and Rossi couldn't ride the damn thing. I remain optimistic but I don't hold out much hope for the WSBK boys on this thing either. Amazing shot of the bike with it's dress off. This is going to be fun.
  18. Well, just for being a dick doing some ,"na-na, na, na-na" look what I have and you don't thread - may you get smoked by every stock 1000rr!!!!!!!! Damn, nice ride. Enjoy
  19. If I had $5k to blow, I would be all over the A-star or Dianese airbag suit that is rechargeable. the neckbrace is on my x-mas list along with a new suit.
  20. Europe and Honda think your right. Depending on purpose and environment, middle weight bikes are probably the ideal street bikes. Best combination of weight, power, economy and enjoyment.
  21. I think the issue might be that if you and I were in the roll of the cop car, we would be in jail now and facing some kind of charges or a fine for failing to watch out for stupid. "Automobile accidents, the area in which the majority of personal injury actions arise, provide a good example of how the tort system works. You have a negligence claim in a "fault" state if you are injured by a driver who failed to exercise reasonable care, because drivers have a duty to exercise reasonable care anytime they are on the road. When they breach that duty and your injury results, personal injury law says you can recoup your losses."
  22. Amen. Absolutely no reason to have the gun loaded, safety should be on and the gun should be in a case. Sorry for the little boy, tragic.
  23. Nice and quite creative, though not all that original. The Nuge was doing the same thing 40 years ago: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nW8S58CYQqs ...I make the pussy purr with The stroke of my hand They know they gettin' it from me They know just where to go When they need their lovin man They know I do it for free
  24. This guy blew $7.5M http://jalopnik.com/5849231/in-his-front-yard-this-man-built-americas-largest-private-racetrack 3.9 is a steal. Some group of investor or rich types are going to grab this up and us SW-Ohio types might have a local track by 2014. Putnam has to be a bit concerned now that this is on the market as it has the potential to take the Louisville, Cinci, Dayton and even Indy customers.
