  1. Not sure if its the same with 4 strokes, but my on my 2 strokes I heat it to operating temp and cool twice varying throttle. Then a couple 5-10 min rides with high load but not excessive rpm.

I do think break in is a bit of bs, racers change out top ends and go out for the next heat.

  2. checked out a little bit of the stuff I recorded....lens wasn't fogged up this time, but I somehow managed to not record anything past where I took lead. The helmet mount stuff that actually recorded will give you motion sickness because I never stop moving around.

  3. We got a little wet after you headed out Jester. Took shelter at a car wash till it cleared. After it stopped we went about 5 miles and it was perfectly dry. There were also a few sprinkles here and there, but nothing major.

Great day of riding....my rear tire is officially smoked, maybe has one short ride left on it.

  4. A cyclist friend of mine was hit by a truck last year. Punctured his arm, broke his collarbone and some broken ribs. He had a small patch of pretty severe road rash on his shoulder. He said of all the injuries, the road rash is the one that kept him up nights because of the pain and discomfort. That was a bit sobering.

As my rash was healing the hair in my arms became ingrown in the scabs....every time I moved it was like slowly pulling duct tape off, then putting it right back on to do again. Getting comfortable at night was horrible, and my road rash was minor.

  5. already ordered from ridersdiscount and had them shipped to Pa where my other wheels and tire changing gear is.

Maybe I'll order a more touring oriented rear and have it shipped here.

  6. Figured I'd start a thread to talk about everyone's current set of tires.

I'm currently running shinko's; an 009 raven on the rear (hardest compound) and a 005 advance on the front. I'm right around 4k miles and guessing about 500 miles left on the rear. Mainly used them for commuting and twisties, nothing extremely aggressive, but I'd say they are a good fit for my ability and what I had in mind when purchasing them.

These last rides have ate the crap out of the rear tire, 600 miles last weekend has made the rear just disappear. I'm not sure if it was the hot weather or the long commutes from Cleveland to roads that have turns; but before this weekend I could have swore I had around 2k left in the rear, now maybe another 500.

I've had the front nearly wash out on me once; but that was my own fault, I leaned it over while the tire was stone cold in the morning. Other than that, they have been extremely predictable. The rear chatters a bit at a hard lean and will spin a little if I really get on it while leaned in. The harder compound rear is also prone to squeal and get a little loose if you engine brake hard or use rear brake much.

I just ordered a set of Q2's, but only because I want to set myself up for a trackday. I'll be getting another raven for the rear to use on the street....it is just too good of a value.

  7. our saturday ride was a bad idea Rhill lol

105+ temp = no relieif even when moving which actually made it worse coz it felt like blow dryer :D and roads we explored sucked big time.

It was hot, but bearable. After reading a bit about hot weather riding, I think my jacket protected me from the blast of the hot air and your mesh made it worse for you. Plus you were already exhausted before we even started. I was also drinking constantly from the hydration bladder during the ride which helped a ton. Ended up out the next day for another 6 hour ride :D
