  1. 30% less rear end crashes in California, versus Texas and Florida. The rest of the world allows it and it reduces congestion and accidents by quite a bit. You're the one being overly emotional without actually researching the topic. If you had researched the topic, you'd have known this already.

Asking for statistical data supporting your argument is being overly emotional?

erm...debates are emotional? Convince me, and you have an advocate. Otherwise...what, we revert to name calling, obfuscation and deflection?

links showing that 30% would be swell, links showing me the rest of the world? (I couldn't find it)

Its illegal in Canda and only tolerated in most european countries, haven't gone past what I've read on wing forums and adv-as its unlikley I'm riding anywhere outside the US-

    http://www.ots.ca.gov/Media_and_Research/Press_Room/2012/doc/2012_MC_Lane_Splitting_Survey.pdf

thats a Cali study, and after glossing over it, I came to a different conclusion. lane splitting is for reduction of congestion, nothing to do with safety. Lane split and it seems your chances of an accident go up about 15%

  2. you'd have to be straight incompetent to mess up a car interior with a steam cleaner

LOL.......an ol roommate in an apartment complex, borrowed the complex's steam cleaner, went to town on his car..he did the interior ceiling...killed whatever spray glue they use to hold that felt stuff in place...

oh the humanity we rode him like cheap donkey for weeks after.

He said the same thing as he poured the water in and plugged it to the drop cord outside our place. bwuhahaha

  3. Medina and Tiger Paw - Are you guys over 60 years old?  Reason I ask is that you sound like my dad that hates change.

The fact is that the lane splitting is essential for the safety of the rider.

.  Think about the idiots on phones, texting, fiddling with the radio, cleaning up the debris from their lunch and wiping the kid's mouth.  Also understand that the one thing you should already have as an ability as a motorcycle rider is to watch the driver's front wheels.  You will see the car pulling left or right before it happens.  Plus, this is congestion based traffic.  So, they are all bumper to bumper.

You guys slay me with the whole "death will come" mentality...

are you under 20?  The reason I'm asking is cause it sounds like you want facts to fit your wants.

you guys slay me with the whole "its safer to filter" mentality.

How is it safer? How does decreasing your distance between cagers who dont see you in the first place increase your safety?

How does increasing your speed compared to those same blind cagers increase safety?

I dont get your logic, you said Think about the idiots on phones, texting, fiddling with the radio, cleaning up the debris from their lunch and wiping the kid's mouth, so you want to decrease your distance and reaction times?

All I am asking for is definitive proof, not a gut feeling. Haven't seen it- What I have seen is an emotional increase in this topic.

I see lots of references about Cali, show me some stats from the Mecca of filtering and I'll believe

  4. number one killer of riders are cars turning left in front of said rider

getting rear ended is well behind drunk riders, speeding riders and I'm rather shocked, over 40 year old riders

Over 40 riders are waay up there. slower reaction times? less likely to have taken safety course, or just bought a bike too big for their skills, or the middle age dude wanting something to cruise looking all sons of anarchy while hitting the bars with? Dunno, but an odd stat that perplexes me. over 50 I ride vastly more cautious than I did in my teens and twenties...and thirties for that matter..

As to rear ended, In 68% of rear end crashes,(meaning all accidents where a bike and a care were involved) the motorcycle was the striking vehicle

I got a better idea, add another motorcycle ONLY lane on all interstates

  5. http://www.dot.state.oh.us/Divisions/Planning/SPPM/SystemsPlanning/Pages/MotorcycleCrashStatistics.aspx

click the various tabs for highest accident locations,  Crash Segment Maps by County, Fatal and Serious Injury Maps by County etc etc

Medina county, no brainer, the spots are spots I avoid...in my van

Not being morbid, I took part of a safety course back in the early 80's a step further. Studied what kills riders, and what causes accidents. accident free since 1979 knock wood

  6. 76 close to Pa, I saw horrific "lips" during their repairs. One was kind enough to have a motorcycle warning sign.....I hardly see how that helps negotiate a 4" drop like a rolled curb at 60 mph with round shaped tires. Idiots.

-So far, very lucky, no fresh tar snakes- those long lines where they do..what, just pour tar into cracks I'm guessing? Throw your ass down if you hit one of those if you have a light, or one handed grip

  7. ^I was shopping for a modular when those evil bastards at iron pony had my current shoei marked down into the same price range I could afford..I do so love my banana yellow full face armored vagina, but next one...next one will be modular for the reason you mentioned as well getting a drink or picking my nose etc

  8. Let me guess, someone offered you livestock?

A cow. A fucking cow. Man and son drove out to look at the nighthawk looked at my "farm" (big yard, big back yard) and wondered if I could would consider a cow.

I asked how long had  it been sitting, and honest the guy just stared blankly back and asked "huh?"

  9. Don't do it. Smells real fishy to me...there will be other buyers. CL is full of thieves and scammers.

    And worse.........looosers

    honest, working.......looooosers with little money

I've had insane offers, as well as those who say, hold it till.*insert some date a month away

It does sound like the kid doesn't have any money, has to use someone elses phone, get someone elses ride...

last bike I sold on CL I had put "open to trades"... Clearly I was in the wrong, I needed to specify non living trades only

  10. But magley64 has super texting powers. He told me so and it must be true. Because he said so. And what ever he says goes.

I wasn't directing that comment at anyone directly. (I just read the previous two pages and realized he did say that.   but anyone claiming they can text safely is asking me to dismiss reality and thousands of police reports to accept that.

The kid across the street claims he can text and its no problem. He's about 30-32. \

He actually told me that the new law will increase accidents because everyone is trying to hide the phone while they text. Where as before he could hold it out in front of him over the steering wheel...

When I was in my 20's, I thought I could have 3-4 drinks and be ok to drive. Never had an accident drinking and driving, got pulled over, but back then, if you could hold your head straight, they asked how far you had to go..whew!

I carry when I drive, hope if some texter hits me, he kills me, cause I'm going to claim self defense, got attacked with a car and I do fear for my life on a bike seeing assholes texting.

  11. http://www.accidentin.com/motorcycle_accidents_in_ohio.htm

crap, that is way more than I'd have guessed

all the bike accidents that happened just this last weekend in Ohio.

surely none were texting related, right?

    You knew this, right?

The two states where the courts have ruled on this issue, and in which Prof. Carroll has practiced, have been split in their rulings.  Ohio’s supreme court ruled that temporary cellphone seizure after crashes is constitutional.  Washington State’s highest court to have ruled on the issue concluded that the practice is unconstitutional.  Florida’s supreme court also deemed the practice unconstitutional.

  12. Who said they just text and drive while no one is around?

Route 36 in Pa, sunday, 11AM  coming home, I had to wait 20 some minutes for the tow truck to drag the car that hit a pole, then came to rest in the MIDDLE of the road.

Waited till today to post, called my GF, the doctor on call at the hospital to see if she knew what happened.

I asked if she could scan the report and send it to me, can't..f'ing illegal for some reason.

Kid went off road texting, just for a second, best part he said to the cops, it was ok, no one was around!

If you text and drive, you're a fucking moron. End of story.

  13. Thank you...why would someone give up a nice Honda and buy an older bike with probably more miles

that sort of thing we'll never know. why someone does this or that etc

heres how a delivery works. Everyone agrees to a price, then you fax him a contract to purchase, then they sign it (contract is basically a  "IF this is that, then this happens" etc) then he sends a deposit to you. then you drag your butt down.

without that... is when it gets interesting, to this point you have no money and have proven you're desperate to sell.

Now..the real negotiations start. How bad you want to drag this chunk of whatever back home?

My humble advice is do not drag something down there. Think about it...if he doesn't have the stability, the where with all, the friends with dependable transportation for Gods sake (hey, ALL my friends do)  to come see it, does he have the ability to purchase it?

  14. Next time you text, think about how many times  you've looked over, in traffic (on your bike) and seen the asshole next to you texting, trying to hide it-like if you can't see them doing it, its ok, down on their laps, or next to the passenger seat.

Assholes adding another full second to the time their eyes are off the road.

  15. I dont care if a pink angel floated down off a space ship and handed him a gun...i LOVE stories where the dirtbag assumes room temp. Love it. Will read again. Two thumbs up.

hey, if you're worried about the consequences of your job, find a new career.

I have no fears about getting tiger bit, falling off a blimp, splitting atoms or getting gunshot by my intended.

    nice handi work by citizen
