  1. I just can't stop laughing at the thought of................Midget Hooligan. Is there anyone who will deny that it seems to be fitting? .
  2. Here's another thing I hate. You're driving along and you're passing a few cars. Another car creeps up behind you, so you move over to let him by, except he never really passes. You are then approaching a slower car in the right lane but the bozo that was passing you is only a little ahead of you and now you have to slow down to get behind him and he no longer proceeds at the speed you were going when he was creeping up behind you. You were polite and got screwed. He wanted you to be the fast guy so that you could run interference for him but when he's in the front, he doesn't want to be the lead fast guy even though it was fine for him to be nearer your rear bumper than you are comfortable with. You give him the lead and he slows down, blocking your passing. I no longer immediately get over in the right lane if there will be a car up ahead that I will get pinched behind, until I pass that car. Once I clear that car, let me get far enough ahead to safely get over to the right instead of squeezing through between us with only inches to spare and then flying by on my right. I'm getting over if you will let me. .
  3. Well, I'm always respectfull and polite to authority because I know they hold all the cards and even if I've done nothing, I can still be held for what, 48 hours without charges, or something like that? Regarding other cops stepping on toes of each other, I don't know how that works but I can see an old timer wanting to show a new guy "how it's done" and I don't want to be his example. So, though I have nothing with me that I'm not permitted to have, I also don't want to treated like I'm suspected of having something. And you may not do that, but there are those who seem to, maybe not in your department, but in others. We are not all bad guys but it seems that many LEOs have an attitude of it's them against us and all citizens are suspect. As far as giving you a reason to pull me over, I may drive a little briskly at times, in a straight line, but I am carefull in traffic and not a hazard on the roads. I also don't drink or use substances to impair my driving. There are a couple of Columbus cops that have a different idea about that. I've met a few. I agree. You guys will do what the law allows. We just think the law allows too much, freedom wise and you are viewed as a agent of the government for revenue collection. Nothing personal, of course. \ C'mon Don, tell us your story. Don't keep us guessing. .
  4. Even a rough trade-in lists at $17,425. That's with $450 added for low mileage.
  5. I think most roads can be driven on safely at 10 mph over the posted limit. I figure that, though it may be safe to drive them at ten over, if a 35 was posted at 45, and it was a safe speed for that road, some idiot would drive it at 55 where it is not safe, and that a slower posting than what is safe allows for a buffer zone for safety, for those who limit their speed to 10 or so over, like I usually do. So, though I may not get a speeding ticket, I can still expect speeding to be a "reason" to be pulled over so that a witch hunt can ensue in hopes that I can be found guilty of something stronger. Right. We don't believe for a minute that it's about safety. We do believe it's about revenue, another tax. Maybe that's why some speed limits seem to be arbitrarily under posted. The temptation and human nature to drive at a more reasonable speed overwhelms our patience and we press our luck through those areas until we become a victim of an engineered revenue collection zone. (i.e. Granville St. in Gahanna, a 25 mph four lane at 3 a.m. with no other traffic) Still, I don't want to be pulled over by you. And though you may be an alright guy, the second cop, the one riding shotgun, or the one in the car behind you who just pulled up because they were close by, he or she may be having a bad night and an attitude to match and not be so cool. ..
  6. Maybe you can. Are you wearing a towel? .
  7. And they are allowed to raise kids and walk about the streets freely. Where is their keeper? .
  8. Nobody buys a Hayabusa to ride the speed limit. They buy it to ride fast. Faster than their friends. To be envied. To be admired. To show off if necessary. I don't want him riding on the same roads as me or anyone I care about and this is one reason why.... (See it properly, here) >> http://www.driveandstayalive.com/articles%20and%20topics/crash%20causation/speed_swedish-motorcycle-crash_2005.htm The white bit, at the right-hand side of the hole in the side of the car, is the clue. The graphic display (below) was placed at the Stockholm Motorcycle Fair by the Swedish Police and Road Safety Department. The sign above the display noted that the rider had only recently obtained his license. Left (and bottom left) The Honda burst into the VW through the front passenger door. <<< Click to enlarge Right Roof-crush, resulting from the roll-over. If you imagine the roof still fully upright, you will get a much better idea of the roof damage caused by the rider's body. The Honda rider was traveling at such a "very high speed", his reaction time was not sufficient enough to avoid this accident. Swedish Police estimate a speed of ~250 KM/h (155mph) before the bike hit the side of the slow moving car at an intersection. At that speed, they predicted that the rider's reaction time (once the Volkswagen came into view) wasn't sufficient enough for him to even apply the brakes. The car had two occupants and the bike rider was found INSIDE the car with them, along with the motorcycle itself.
  9. >> Office Working to Close Guantanamo Is Shuttered >> ...no senior official...will succeed Mr. Fried in working...on...resettling detainees appeared to signal that the administration does not currently see the closing of the prison as a realistic priority... I just wanted to see if I read that right. .

  11. I took a little ride today. It was warmer than it has been for a while. It was around 3:30 when I left Newark and headed off to Pickerington. Back in June, I made my first visit to the Motorcycle Hall of Fame, in Pickerington, Ohio. At the entry desk, they mentioned that if I join the AMA I would get some sort of discount applied to my entry fee. So, I joined up. Time went by and joining the AMA was long forgotten. Eventually, a receipt surfaced which prompted my memory that I had paid for a membership, but I had never received anything to welcome me to the club or anything else from them. I kept putting off giving them a call until a time when it was more convenient and would stop slipping my mind. Well, finally that day came last week. I called them. They said they didn't have me in their system and asked if I could mail or fax them a copy of my receipt. I said I'd stop in on the way home from work one day. Better than that, today was a perfect day to just ride in and meet them in person. A riding jacket and jeans were adequate for today's temperatures. It felt good to straddle the bike again and take off down the road. The roads were moist from a light rain earlier, but the sun was shining when I left home. A few reminders of road hazards flashed into my day. One was, when you are approaching a hill that you can't see over, stay to the right of your lane. As I was returning home, I took the scenic route through the countryside. A pickup truck coming my way popped up over a hill in front of me and was nearly in the middle of the road. I'm glad I was far enough back to scoot over some before he got too close. Another hazard I wasn't expecting was gravel down the center of my lane in several places on the roadway. There was a lot of it on the main roads, between where cars tires would ride. I suppose this is common after snow has melted off the roadways. Anyway, I learned some things that I didn't think about before. I arrived at the AMA with my receipt in hand and they took my info and said that tomorrow I could access their website with my new password and I would start getting their magazine in the mail. They were very nice. I'm glad I stopped in. I got home at 6:05, just before it started getting dark. It was a good day for a ride and I got one in before cold weather hits us again. I can't wait for riding season to come. :biker: ..
  12. At his age, I think this will work. Tell him if it ever happens again, you will donate some of his favorite computer games and toys to kids that are less fortunate and he will go with you when you do it. .
  13. Here's a copy of a post on that page. Good advice? This is just a gun registration scheme!! …And we all know that confiscation follows registration!! WAITRESS: Blackbean Pumpkin Soup? DINER: Yes, please. F/X: BOWL OF SOUP PLACED ON TABLE WAITRESS: Enjoy. DINER: Excuse me, did you have your thumb in my soup? WAITRESS: No... ? DINER: You did! I saw you. You had your thumb in my soup! Why did you have your thumb in my soup? WAITRESS: Um... Look, I'm sorry. I've hurt my thumb. It's got an infection. The doctor said I had to keep it warm... DINER: What!? You've been keeping your infected thumb warm by sticking it in my soup? WAITRESS: I'm sorry... DINER: That's outrageous! I want to speak to the manager. WAITRESS: But if you complain I'll get the sack... DINER: (incencesed) Look, if you need to keep your thumb warm, why don't you just stick it up your arse? WAITRESS: I do when I'm in the kitchen. END

Note to self: Don't eat at Steve's Place. .
  16. We're all lucky to have jobs right now, with what Washington DC is doing to this country. I'm sure you'll get paid. Just hang in there. Give them a chance to make it right. Sounds like they are having some money problems. The economy sucks and they are probably lucky to still be in business. They could start firing people to reduce their expenses. Payroll is one of the costliest items. I doubt they want to put people out of work if they don't have to. You don't want to do that. That would hurt you along with all of your coworkers by affecting your company's operations. That could really jack up everyone's pay, and they need paychecks too. Maybe a work slow down is in order, if you are not paid by Wednesday. That's if you can get people to cooperate. There are always those who will suck up to the boss no matter what, and those who will snitch you out. Watch your back but talk with some trusted others about what can be done to make paying you on time their top priority in the future. Just don't get stupid and do something to end up out of work or in legal trouble. Remember that any of us trying to stay in business with today's administration and economy would be struggling sooner or later. It's going to get much worse. .
  17. The Institute for Legislative Action (ILA) is the "lobbying" arm of the National Rifle Association of America. This is what they say about that. Have a read. Despite rumors to the contrary, Cerberus Capital Management, L.P., the firm which owns Freedom Group. Inc. (FGI), the holding company for such firearms manufacturers as Remington, Marlin, Bushmaster and DPMS, is in NO WAY affiliated with anti-gun activist George Soros. George Soros has never been a part of Freedom Group or Cerberus. Further, as Cerberus is a privately owned corporation, run by sportsmen, shooters and firearms enthusiasts, we can say with great sincerity and certainty that George Soros will never be a part of the Freedom Group family of companies. http://www.nraila.org/223471 .
  18. Did we actually get a comment on here from a LEO? .
  19. The only actual text I can find regarding staying in the right lane except for passing, or slower traffic keeping right is in the Digest of Ohio Motor Vehicle Laws, the book that is studied by someone wanting to get their Ohio Driver's License. I've searched the Ohio Revised Code regarding passing and left lane usage and came up empty except for this. Digest of Ohio Motor Vehicle Laws (English version) (Page 35) Section 6 -- Traffic Laws - Lanes --Divided Highway The text in the bubbles on the diagram would not copy, so I listed them in order, top to bottom. "DRIVE IN RIGHT LANE" is all I can find. ROAD OF FOUR OR MORE LANES USE LANE RIGHT OF CENTER TO PASS AND MAKE LEFT TURNS NEVER DRIVE LEFT OF CENTER DRIVE IN RIGHT LANE It seems the diagram would not post. Click: Digest of Ohio Motor Vehicle Laws (English version) to see it. Perhaps Law Enforcement is lacking in a statute to make the left lane more "passing friendly." Have a search: http://codes.ohio.gov/orc/4511 I do like this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LZhdvl_P1Zc .
  20. Most that approach you to pass are not doing 75. They simply want to travel a little faster than you are going and they wish you safe travels at the speed you desire in the lane on the right. Stress levels of others are not your concern. Mind your own. That's an invalid assumption. I rarely get speeding tickets. There are years between them and when I get one' date=' I know I've been caught fairly, usually. I don't drive like a madman. I just want to go a little quicker without someone camping out in the passing lane needlessly.[/color'] You must have missed the point. I want traffic to flow freely at a pace which will not needlessly fluctuate because a vehicle in the passing lane will not pass. I don't need to ride your ass at that speed because you are passing the same cars I am trying to get around and even if you stay in the left lane' date=' and I need to get around you, I will buzz by on your right, but it's not likely I will have a need to travel much quicker than that. But, you are still creating a problem by living in the left lane if you are not clearing it for faster traffic when it is safe for you to do so. It's just rude.[/color'] That is not what is being asked of you. I agree with you.
  21. Spending excessive time on the roads driving behind you because you hog the passing lane going 56 mph and not passing anyone just adds to the problem. If you're not part of the solution' date=' you are a part of the problem. Maybe they need to be concerned with not impeding the flow of traffic and allowing traffic not to bottle neck behind them like too many other idiot drivers. .
  22. I somehow imagine you taking corners up on two wheels, in your car, with your door open and your foot out...like a boss.
