  1. The car monitors how long the gas has been in the car so even if you never need the gas it'll still run the engine to burn it. It's not a drastic function, but there are a few reasons it runs the gas engine other then just as a generator.
  2. We have a half dozen on the lot that aren't selling, I'm sure anyone would be willing to play ball dealing with them.
  3. LSX, no question. after that I'm so biased towards the LS motor I don't know what to say. I've always had a thing for the Viper V10 and I love the way quick revving V12 exotics sound by the likes of Ferrari and Lamborghini. I personally think that an old Ford 302 is crap, the damn things break in half when you make power, now a Boss block 302 is worth mentioning as a bad ass small block Ford.
  4. I could try to sound smart and remember specifially what was described in the Volt training, but it's just easier to put it in laymens terms. Basically when you step on the brakes, the car doesn't apply the service brakes unless you are trying to stop fast, under most initial braking the drive motor becomes a generator and slows the car, hence regenerative braking. So there are times where they are certainly not confidence inspiring. The ABS system is very complicated, much more then a normal car, and I'm not going to sit here and claim to be an expert just because I've done the training once, I haven't had to work on the ABS yet. Think of the ABS module as actually absorbing your pedal pressure so regeneration can occur, this can have some effects, but push harder and your pedal pressure will still go to the brakes. While I'm going on about the car, what I find really cool is the transmission because that's where all the magic happens. There are 2 motor/generators in the trans, these motors are not the same size, the one in front (closest to the engine) is primarily the generator, and the second (closest to the final drive) is primarily the drive motor. This is how the car spends most of it's time, and is the first of 4 drive modes. When slowing both are generators, when accelerating hard both are drive motors, and if the battery is close to being dead or there are faults the engine can be locked in to help drive the car. However if the drive motors cannot function the engine will not drive the car. The connections between the 2 motor/generators and the internal combustion engine (ICE) within the trans are the key to making it all work, basically clutches and planetary sets similar to what would be in a normal automatic. The car has multiple control modules in addition to the typical Engine control module, and Transmission control module arrangement. Like the Hybrid Powertrain control module 1 and 2 that control different aspects of the transmission and drive motor functions, the battery energy module that monitors the battery and communcates it's condition with everything else, or the accessory DC power module which recharges the 12 volt battery and provides power to all the other modules and accessories because they still run on 12 volts. I also find it interesting that the car utilizes 3 cooling systems, 1 for the engine, 1 for the battery, and 1 for the electronics. The cabin is heated by the 2 stage engine cooling system, when the engine doesn't run there is a bypass valve, auxilary pump, and high voltage heater that are part of that system. Okay I'm done with my info diarrhea, any questions? Like I said earlier it's a neat car, but not like driving a normal car at all.
  5. I have driven and worked on them, and I think they're really neat cars. If you get one with the mindset that its not going to be like anything else I think you'd love it. If you're going to drive it in winter I'd definitely get heated seats as the heater isn't great even in comfort mode. Everything is set up for efficency so expect the displays and driving modes to reflect that. Personally I like them.
  6. I agree it was likely the e-brake that stuck, but it sound like the PO used crappy rotors and the pad outline (commonly refered to as lot rot) will cause a braking vibration or pulsation. It may or may not be very bad, but because you commented that it did it already I'd say ypu have cheap brakes. Worst things for brakes is cheap metal used to make the rotors, sitting and getting lot rot, or improper wheel torque. So buy some quality stuff, properly torque the wheels and go down the street and dry your brakes off after you wash it.
  7. I tried having no cable, netflix gets old, hulu doesn't have much I wanted to watch, and just local channels sucks. Got Direct TV and I'm glad I did, been better the WOW's bullshit, and it came with nicer hardware then anything else I looked at. At&T internet works great too.

    Thanksgiving

Happy Thanksgiving, glad to know so many on CR so I hope everyone has as much to be thankful for as I do.
  9. I like the Black Diamond and White Diamond colors on big broad sided cars like the Cadillacs and trucks, but can't picture it looking right on a curvey car like a C5. It just seems that the flake would stand out in spots given whatever lighting angle hits it. Do you like Cyber grey? Never seen that on a C5z. Out of your choices I think the Blue would look best on the car.
  10. Well that's really specific.
  11. I have to agree with the majority, grilled animal flesh is way better then any other way of cooking it.
  12. Sweet, best thing about winter is Doc's hangout.
  13. Should fit about any 3800 n/a car from 97 up. FYI.
  14. Does Jordan have a buy so many cars get one free program that only you are aware of?
  15. Would like to find something with decent tread to fit my S10. It has a 205-70-15 on it, but will consider anything close. Basically anything 205-235 wide, between 25-27 inches tall on a 15inch rim.
  16. I've tried the kits that you can buy at the auto parts store before, I would consider those just more for preventing the chip from getting bigger. I would get a professional to do the repair if you want it gone.
  17. Its a BMR turbo k-member and yes he's keeping A/C. Pretty sure there are some pics in the build thread.
  18. Well okay then, I'd leave the white walls goes along with the big beige car. I know those are nice to drive, but you went from 23 to 65 in about 5 years. Hopefully you don't die next year you old fuck.
  19. Hmm, I'd say confirm codes and replace throttle body.
  20. Your friend Mr Green is well versed in Procharger tech, all you'd likely have to change is pulley size.
