That's awesome Doc! I hope everything works out so you can stick around. Perfect timing too with the best of the summer ridding season kicking into gear. Definitely a shorter ride now to get to the curves! Maybe we can get you to tag along on our next all day jaunt to southern Ohio.

Not a recluse! Its a wood spider. I live in the woods and I have them all over. They can get pretty big, much bigger than a wolf spider. They are quite harmless. The stripes on the legs give it away. A brown recluse is all brown with no stripes and smaller abdomen. My dad just killed one is his garage yesterday. Up to that point I have never seen one up here in NEO. The recluse is quite aggressive. He said it lunged at him several times and then he nailed it with a shoe.

Sorry to hear about your accident and glad to hear you are ok. Great job keeping the bike up and not going down. That's a hard thing to do with the binders mashed! Good luck with the insurance, I am still paying bills from my accident last summer.

Would you trade in your gas powered machine for one of these?

I believe so. The speed is controlled by a variable frequency drive like commercial HVAC fans and pumps. Some of the Tesla models have two motors, one in the front and one in the rear. Major linear torque and HP! It's only a matter of time before we see some electric motorcycles on the road as battery, motor, and charging technology gets better. The price will always be an issue. Look at how much it cost to own a Prius when they first came out. A coworker of mine bought one of the first generation models and said it would take at least 7 years of ownership to see a return on investment. He was getting on average 50 mpg. -
I came across a site talking about electric motorcycles called Zero Motorcycles. Its an American company out of California. I don't think the speed and power are there yet, but who knows what will come in the near future. Look at what Tesla has done in the automotive industry with electric cars. I personally don't see myself on a electric bike any time soon, but thought I would just throw it out there. http://www.zeromotorcycles.com

That pic says it all. Inside that person knows they did the right thing! Someone was looking out for you Doc! It feels great to be riding again. Have put on about 1000 mi. on my new bike. Getting back on the bike was a joint decision with my wife. She knows how passionate I am about riding and I let her decide my fate. She surprised me when she said she would be ok with me getting back on two wheels. We have a young family too, so it really surprised me. As far as the corners go, I try to approach a little more conservatively than before my accident. The truth is you cannot be scared of it or you shouldn't be riding. You have to trust in your abilities and your motorcycle to get you through each turn. If your friend is as passionate about riding as everyone here on the OR then he will be back on two wheels in no time with a new respect for motorcycle riding.

Doc, sorry to hear about the wreck. What should have been a great day turned into crap real quick. I am glad to hear he is ok. You cannot blame yourself as everyone goes down at some point. I have been riding almost 15 years and went down hard with Derek last year. I guess it was our turn. Thankfully Derek walked away and I got the worst of it with a chopper flight, but was released with minor fractures in my lower back similar to your friends neck injuries. That's why we wear gear. I don't blame anyone but myself for getting caught out on a really bad blind corner with dirt and gravel. It was on an unfamiliar road and I put myself in that position. We are all responsible for putting ourselves in these positions and that is plain and simple the risk of riding a street bike. I would never wish wrecking on anyone, but it has given me a new level of respect for my bike and riding a motorcycle. Keep your head up, motorcycle riding is in your blood. I hope to be riding again with you soon, hopefully before the fall Epic Ride! Keep us informed on you friends condition.

She said she didn't see him, my guess is she didn't even look. Was probably on the phone. I had a guy at slow speed like 40mph pull out in front of me while making a left, saw me locking the tires and burned out to get out of the way and I missed hitting him by inches. I did get a standing ovation from the group of dudes on a front porch who saw that I didn't go down. Another thing, I know it annoys people, but I will rev my engine in towns and intersections, so I can be more visible. I will also do it coming into a gas station or any other stop to make sure the asshats see me coming in.

83 is clear all the way down to 78. Just rode it a few weeks ago. If you are up for it, you should ride all the way down to 78 and stop at the Big Muskie bucket. 83 is smooth and twisty with a lot of great scenery and some elevation the farther south you go. It is a great road for 2 wheels! We are probably heading down this way again this weekend. Will be a great weekend for riding!

That was incredible! That dude either knew what to do or grabbed a whole lot of brake and got extremely lucky. The crazy part is the truck just keeps going. What an asshat!! Just amazing the dude walked away from that.

I would be worried about oil getting on my rear tire. I think I would run some compressed air over the chain when finished to make sure it cannot sling.

Props to all who showed up! Major props to Doc for coming all the way down from Michigan to hang! I am sorry to hear a couple of bikes went down. Glad to hear you all got home safe! I got up with the intent to attend, looked out the window at the rain pussied out and went back to bed. Also, glad to hear you got to run the route pretty much rain free. It is a great route that we ride all summer. I want to see pics or it didn't happen!! Hope to see you all on the next one. Maybe we should put together a redo in June or July.
