  1. anybody want to comment about somehow summer protests were somehow "worse": http://www.fbi.gov/wanted/seeking-info/suspected-pipe-bombs-in-washington-dc
  2. you did, or did you think that Thomas Jefferson quote only applied to one side of the aisle?
  3. Really? you can't believe it? I can. Went through this in 2016. In other news, here's some gas for this dumpster fire: https://www.cnn.com/2021/01/09/media/reliable-sources-january-8/index.html?utm_source=pocket-newtab
  4. Of course not, but those are the big costs and usually the big hurdle. Sure the "little things" nickle and dime every project into twice the budget but they usually do it over a period of time instead of a single purchase. my point was only that for the large expenditures - doing an old school SBF and a Holley terminator is basically a wash in the large expenditure category when compared to a coyote drop out which is superior. I think the ancillary expenditures are the same regardless, its hit or miss on reusing the stock stuff when swinging in a crate motor, and most of the time its a miss. Dad put a crate old school 350 chevy in the '57 vette recently and do you know how much stock stuff he used? 0, none, nada. Both old school small block chevys but even the valve covers don't fit without special adapters. Cheapest way for the OP is go get a reman stock long block and swing that in with all his stock stuff. car won't make any power but at least it will not leak oil. If he has a numbers matching car, it might be worth it to re-ring and reseal the engine he has, but labor wise that is still going to be slightly more expensive. Who in town works on fox body era small block fords?
  5. If you pay someone to do the whole thing start to finish, seems accurate. However, there are ways to mitigate those costs by doing some of the work yourself and farming out the harder things. An old school crate motor plus a holley terminator is $6K, a dropout engine and trans coyote is about $7K, so parts are a wash. The only way to really save any money on a project like this is to do it yourself, labor is going to be the lions share of all of it. This looks helpful: https://lmr.com/products/how-to-coyote-swap-a-fox-body-mustang
  6. 1) Because during the BLM protests police were way more violent toward the crowd initially, in many cases instigating the violence. You can't prosecute a suspect for self defense, even against a police officer who is not performing an arrest, 2) Because many could not be identified (funny that masks have that effect) 3) Lots of people were prosecuted. https://www.cnn.com/2021/01/08/us/dc-police-arrests-blm-capitol-insurrection-invs/index.html https://www.bostonglobe.com/2021/01/07/nation/how-arrests-capitol-riot-wednesday-compare-that-black-lives-matter-protests/ https://www.forbes.com/sites/roberthart/2021/01/07/figures-show-stark-difference-between-arrests-at-dc-black-lives-matter-protest-and-arrests-at-capitol-hill/ https://www.usatoday.com/story/news/factcheck/2021/01/07/fact-check-photos-compare-handling-of-blm-protest-capitol-riot/6578562002/ from that last article:
  7. Coyote swap. Seriously. you don't need a $6-8K crate motor, I've seen 2011-2014 coyote's for $3200 out of wrecked mustangs, and F150 coyotes for around $2500. Keep it bone stock looking, I wouldn't even repaint it. Maybe clean up some of the trim and that's it. Let the engine bay or the rear tires do the talking.
  8. I happen to also think it's high priced but here are my reasons: - no top and doors: For the kind of money he's asking, I expect every top and door option for the cj5. Hardtop, soft top, full doors, half doors, basically everything so you could use the jeep year round if you wanted to. - Fiberglass body: So this is a funny one. On the one hand fiberglass bodies are cheap, durable, don't rust, and are pretty good quality now a days (in the old days you couldn't get tops to fit because they weren't square). However, jeep "purists" (and I use that term loosely) will always prefer a steel body. There are many who consider a fiberglass body "not a jeep". I personally have mixed feelings, mostly because the cheaper fiberglass bodies can't have rear tailgates like the originals which cuts down on their usefulness. there are fiberglass tubs setup for tailgates but they are way more expensive and at that price point I would rather have a repop metal body (they make aluminum ones now too at $3800). - How useful is this jeep really?: while a 360 in a short wheelbase CJ5 is a ripper, esp with a 4 speed, it doesn't really have the axles and other stuff to support anything other than light wheeling. Also it's too nice to wheel. that leaves it being an onroad driver which it's not really great at either because it has only a sunrider top, no a/c, short wheelbase, no suspension seats and a giant lift with balloon tires. Basically this guy built his fantasy parking lot cruiser, a mall crawler that isn't an angry eye JKU. To me this is maybe at most a $15K jeep. There is a lot of work in it, and it's very pretty, but it's not really good any anything except collecting local show car trophies and sitting in a garage making your dick hard while you sit in a lawn chair drinking Coors Light and staring at it.
  9. the fact that you can't read the context and think this is the only way that it can be interpreted is also why you can't seem to grasp the gravity of the moment and why you think all this is "funny". You don't value America, freedoms, your rights or your privilege. It's all shit you take for granted. You are on these people's side, you don't think they could ever come for you.
  10. http://www.columbusracing.com/forums/showpost.php?p=1982869&postcount=987 yeah...right...It's very much in context, based on the preceding comments. why even lie about this, it's dumb. Just own it.
  11. Still want to keep this going? You were all gung ho to keep it going last thread.
  12. It doesn't take any kind of moral superiority to see you are a hypocrite. Also a ragdoll usually means someone getting thrown. How you got ragdoll as slang for "taking a shit" is beyond me. Doesn't matter. You don't have anything intelligent to add to this conversation - it's just more of you whining "but but the left" like a little girl with a skinned knee.
  13. yes. there was also destruction of property and looting. Also a woman was shot and killed by police for trying to forceably breach the inner chamber through a window that the mob in which she was a part broke.
  14. greg, I feel like you are wasting your time here. his position isn't based on an intellectual review of the facts (or anything intellectual for that matter), nor is it rooted in the moral compass that any decent human being would possess that makes them fair and impartial. Dude has picked his side, and he's only content when he can slam the other side. It makes him feel better about questionable morals he has when he can go "look over there - the left is doing stuff". He is owned by his bias full stop. Look at his quotes: but all of a sudden violence is bad when the left does it? He's a Hypocrite of the highest caliber, devoid of impartiality, moral compass, or desire for knowledge. As such he is complicit in Trumpism and all it has wrought and he has nobody to blame but himself. If you want, feel sorry for him, but pointing out his ignorance is like showing a dog it's own turd on the living room rug: he's just going to look at it and say, "So what?"
  15. I read Tax. my bad. not messing with anyone.
  16. https://freefile.intuit.com/ the government actually has a contract with Intuit to offer free tax filing, but Intuit hides it from everyone so you go to their normal site and pay for turbo tax services. The above link is supposed to be for the actual free service but as you can see it's down right now. If you have 25 min to kill: https://www.turbotaxsucksass.com/
  17. How cheap do you want the v6 and 4cyl cars to be? some of them are more than $10K cheaper than their base v8. The step that's too large is into a base v8. It's awesome that the base v8 camaro is 455hp, but it's maybe too much and had to insure. Maybe a baby v8 camaro that is 385hp (with a bottom end built to take an aftermarket turbo). I don't really care that the S550 v6 mustang makes more hp than any v8 Sn197 mustang GT, I'm not buying one. There are non-tater priced electric cars, you just don't want them. The Nissan Leaf, Mini Cooper SE, Hyndaui Ionic, and Chevy Bolt are all low $30K, and with the incentives (before they disappeared) were mid $20K. They all had lease deals that were close to $200 a month too (and really you want to lease an ev, because the tech is moving fast). Everybody wants a Tesla P100D with Ludicrous speed that can wax a lambo until they find out it costs almost as much as a lambo and then cry "why isn't my super EV cheap". EV's are where gas cars were in 1920. You can have a $495 Model T that does 35mph, or you can have a V16 Cadillac that will do 100mph but costs $4950. There isn't a lot of in-between and the tech is still developing. Eventually there needs to be the EV equivalent of a 1932 ford - a car that is affordable, approachable, and meets the enthusiast need. EVs also need the Vic Edlebrocks, Ed Iskenderans, and Wally Parks of EVs to rise up and promote the performance side of turning plain EV's into hot rods like those guys did for model T's and traditional hot rodding. The company that figures out the tune to make a bolt or a leaf turn 12's is going to be the next Holley or Edlebrock of the EV aftermarket. It just hasn't happened yet. guys Like Rich Rebuilds, Jonathan Ward (Icon), and EV west are certainly showing us that like the model T, the EV is ripe for hot rodding.
  18. I dunno, you said it. Personally I don't think many enthusiasts buy v6 pony cars. some do, but not many. If I had to buy a 6 cyl car I'm buying a performance 6 cyl car from a foreign mfg. People who buy american performance/pony cars want V8s. In the old days going from a 6 to an 8 involved moving the engine mounts up and hooking up 6 wires, now it's more complicated, and while engine swaps still happen, they are getting fewer so the 6 is mostly for people who like cars but aren't car people. American Hot rodding isn't built on the back of Hemi Darts, or Superbirds, or Hellcat challengers. It's built on the back of the cheapest performance car (preferably v8) that regular people can afford. New 5.7 R/Ts become used ones, and then superchargers and tunes get sold in the aftermarket because there is a demand. the top tier cars are aspirational, the working man's new hot rod is a base model R/T 5.7 or now an LT1 that he/she does things when they can. Honestly, I would have been happy if chevy put a 5.7 or 6.0L in their budget car LT1 but they kept it a 6.2. Makes it harder to insure, but it's still a cheap v8 new car, and it's an LS which has a huge aftermarket.
  19. yeah we are all just discussing our opinions. I don't think it's a joke. It's not a Mustang GT or a camaro SS, but it is a traditional V8, makes V8 sounds, and unlocks the V8 aftermarket. The joke is the Challenger/charger pentastar v6, where they also offer AWD (they did offer R/T AWD in the charger for a while and it was kinda cool - like a large v8, auto, wrx ). You want young people to buy sport coupes and you want them to be able to afford v8 sport coupes - a 392, as cool as a car it is isn't going to put young buyers asses in seats, no matter how badly they want to be there. There is a whole generation of buyers out there that aren't mechanics, don't want to be mechanics, but want v8 muscle car noises, want to see what a drag strip pass is like, don't want the hassle of a used car, and don't want more than one car. They want to pay someone to put an exhaust on it so it sounds like a top fueler, and maybe rims and tires and not eat shit that they wasted their money on a v6 car from the "enthusiast" crowd. The 5.7 hemi challenger is that car for them.
  20. I am not sure I follow this logic. The Challenger R/T is the cheapest way to get into a manual, RWD, V8, pony car coupe out there. Sticker price is $35K but as you told me yourself there are tons of incentives to get the costs down and to be honest most base R/Ts seem to be trading hands at around $28K-$32K. Plus dealers seem to actual stock base no frills R/Ts (to help with those $300 a month lease deals) - to me that seems like a bargain. The Mustang GT, on paper, is $37K base price but I don't see many incentives to bring that price down. The Camaro SS base price is $39K and I can't find a single one in a dealers inventory that is under $42K, and few incentives. I agree the challenger is a pig weight wise. It's also the most usable car. I am not sure the camaro is "overpriced" so much as for 2020 it was missing a "base V8". The cheapest SS is still $4K more than the challenger and more than the mustang. I guess that is why for 2021 Chevy rolled out the LT1 which is a $35K v8 stripper model. To me that sounds like the right play - the base SS was competing with the base 392 challengers and not the R/T and they didn't have an R/T priced v8 car.
  21. the pandemic price drop made it totally worth it. I think I got the whole year for like $20. Way less than Disney+ and I watch it just as much if not more.
  22. Warning: long post ahead Correct parts? no you are correct. But it is just a chevy at heart and you can find non-correct stuff that will fit and make it run if you aren't too worried about how much it looks and drives like a '66. this year I've seen several C3's that ran with rusty frames for under $3K and that will give you almost all your drivetrain, suspension, and brakes. Or they found other cars, like honda civics, subarus, etc...I remember years ago running into a high school kid who was putting a turbo on an mx6 mazda. I asked him why this and he said he couldn't afford anything RWD and American, and this was stick, cheap, clean and what he had. It actually ended up a nice car. He had a lot of fun with it for not a lot of money, and he didn't have to pay double for something as big as a G body and deal with rotted body panels. Enthusiast car culture in America is bigger than it has ever been, but the boomers have chased everyone under 40 out of hot rods and muscle cars, and the young kids that do play with traditional hot rods, 4 door 60's cars, and sleds they treat like crap. It's shameful. I am not going to lie, I have been taking secret delight in watching some of the 50's cars tank in value over the years, esp 55-57 thunderbirds. these cars were crap to begin with but stylish crap, but watching $50-60K cars suddenly become $20K-$30K cars as the demand literally dies off is cathartic. I'm hoping that they get to $10K-$20K cars and less than $5K for projects so people will rediscover them and make neat hot rods out of them again. this reminds me of what a music teacher once told my parents, when I was learning guitar: "buy the kid the guitar he wants (within reason). Why? if they play something they like it helps create encouragement". I learned to work on stuff though R/C gas cars and airplanes. Yeah the mechanical stuff seemed intimidating at first, and a little boring, but I was incentivized to fix it because that was the only way I would play with it, I couldn't afford to keep replacing OS 0.40 engines everytime I struck a prop on the ground and bent a con rod. I hate working on small engines, too hard, too small, and they are boring but I was incentivized to do it because I had started making money with an old snowblower in the winter and I needed it to work in order to have pocket money. If it had a good birdcage I could see maybe $10K. replacing one is a lot of work. A good c2 birdcage starts at $2K and then you have to re-bond all the panels to it (plus remove the old one), not having to deal with that is worth $5K to me. But this car doesn't have a good birdcage, it's shot and the owner clearly thinks you an patch one in place (which is usually how you end up ruining fiberglass panels with heat) which you can't. As for fun? I dunno it depends on your definition of fun. If fun is reassembling someone else's half done project and seeing something that looks clean and nice - this is def not it. If you find fun in making functional garbage out of non-functional garbage, then this could be fun. I do agree it's way too much work either way.
  23. that guy has been trying to sell that shitpile for years. I think I remember first seeing the ad in 2014, and back then he had a '64 roller to go with it. to be honest old mid-year corvettes are like tinker toys. Most of the c3 chassis are identical or close enough to the c2 chassis that you can make them work ('68 is basically a c2 chassis, but by '79 there are so many revision to the chassis it requires moderate reworking of the front and rear rails. If you really want to fall down this rabbit hole here are all the frame differences: http://www.71corvette.com/frames.html point is - parts are cheap and available. If you wanted to build a very ratty hot rod or slow drag car, you could probably do it in a weekend with enough money, space, time, and talent. It ain't gonna have good parts, but a $3500 running parts car c3 and some trips to the hardware store, and don't touch the body at all, and if you started say thrusday night you could be going around the block or making a slow pass on sunday (assuming you had friday off and didn't sleep much the whole weekend). I mean Finnegan and Friedburger could do it, but the rest of us...eh... Begin rant: To be honest though, this is the kind of shit that pisses me off about the corvette hobby. this isn't a $15K body, it's a $5K body and tags, and the rest is the "hopes and dreams" premium. An entire brand new front end from ecklers is $1,700, an entire coupe rear end is $1400. a brand new full body with birdcage that you would just have to sand and paint is $21K so where does this guy come up with the $15K number? not a single panel is useable on that car and the birdcage is toast. the frame? frames are cheap? the vin tag and data plate? it's not a big block car, it's not something rare and special, its a base '66 vette - go to carlisle and you can buy complete project 66's in better shape than this for less money. This is just some dude fishing for a sucker, and honestly it hurts the hobby. If it were cheaper, I betcha some kid with talent could make a fun "king of the mountain" style rat rod out of it - and have it be way better than a '27 T with no original ford parts on it. Seriously, Boomers complain about how young kids aren't into the "old car hobby" and then they pull crap like this to make sure nobody under 50 can afford to waste their time. Fuck this dude, I hope his heirs sell it cheap to a local hot rodder when he's gone (because you know he'll still have it then). /rant.
  24. VW busses have straight axles made of solid metal like old model Ts, vans made by the big three, and vw beetles. They use a special tow bar that goes around the straight axle beam. While it may have looked like it was towing by the front steering arm, I doubt that is what was actually happening. I wouldn't tow a jeep like that, for starters the leaf springs in a jeep are way longer, and the axle is thicker and hallow so you run the risk of crushing the axle tube, and also tugging it by the leaf springs is hard on the shackles.
  25. Depending on the transfer case in the jeep, there should be a way to shift the T-case into neutral for flat towing. It's usually between either 2 and 4Hi or 4hi and 4low. make sure the axles are unlocked. have you looked into a dolly for car towing? A lot of 2 wheel tow dollys have surge brakes, helps when you are coming down the mountain and want to keep the jeep from acting like a lever to pull the rear of the short wheel base RV around.
